On this day in 1971 american TV was banned from advertising cigarettes. However, a compromise was struck to allow for all the big dollar ads during the bowl games to be shown, so the effective date ended up being tomorrow. Crazy to me to think about that fact. I wasn't even born the last time the Marlboro man was on TV, but people still claim they didn't know smoking could be hazardous? Get real.

Anyway,

Me, nice trainer workout. 40 minutes of good tempo riding with a little wu and little cd.

I'll get in a little run sometime later. Hey, I have no american tv, so no bowl games for me.

Go Illinois.

Oh, who is hungover today?

Smoke them workouts tri-peeps!

On this day in 1940 Homer and Louise were married. They became the parents of six, grandparents of 12 and great-grandparents of 10. Had Grandpa not passed away on Christmas Day, today would have been their 68th wedding anniversary...

15yo son and I will be racing a 5K later this morning. The weather sucks! Currently 28' with 20mph winds and light snow. Oh, this is gonna be a fun one. NOT!!!

3 mile recovery run in the plan but it snowed lots overnight. We'll see how long it takes them to get the roads cleared. Rose parade and football while I wait.

Happy New Year Tri Buddies

We are all still suffering from various stages of colds etc - I seem to be the best off - Just a cough - But we all decided to go for a walk this afternoon to the next village

So in order for it not to be to far for all the sickos I drove to the next village and then ran home (4 miles of Fartlek) before a shower and then walked back accross fields and through the woods to get the car . We stopped along the way at a nice pub and I had a very nice pint

So workout done - DW and Kids happy with walk - good start to the new year

New Years 5K. I had three goals for this race: break 24:00 (PR24:01), place, and beat my son. Mission accomplished!!! 23:27, 3rd AG, and I beat my son. However, the last 'victory' is pretty hollow, since my son did not race well today and is really upset about it. He says he never wants to run again...

Lots of college football for me. Maybe pilates later. I'm not even hungover, I think I'm just mourning the loss of my vacation and back to the salt mines tomorrow. Blech.

Happy New Years to everybody. I wish you well in all your 2008 endeavors, athletic or otherwise.

What a wonderful morning to run. The temps were right at 32F, there was no wind, and big fluffy snowflakes were falling coating the road with about an inch of soft new fluff. I brought out the shoe screws for the first time this year.

I started off the year with a nice round 10 miler this morning. It was pretty hilly and the footing was questionable, but I still managed 8:20's at an easy effort.

5k race against dh. I won. unfornuately it's because he pulled his IT band and quit. we'll have to reschedule, I think it would have been very, very close.

Careful what you hope for. By noon, though the temperature had climbed to the low 30's, there was a mix of rain/snow/sleet/snizzle and a 10-15 mph wind (in the face for the first couple miles). Lovely!

Went to the Shamrock Running Club's "Run Your Hangover Off" five miler for a little recovery run. I ran OK for the first couple miles - we lit off around 8's - I hung with the Andyman and the newly engaged Deber. Deb fell back a bit around mile two and then, around mile 3, I started tasting everything I'd eaten last night and had to dial it back a bit. No official results yet but I finished in 40:40 or so - not bad for an easy run.

I met RottenSquirrel after the race - he'd recognized my picture. That was cool.

Hats off to the Somerville runners - I saw a bunch of them heading back out on the course to encourage teammates - they get the "most supportive club award."

Back to reality tomorrow tri-peeps! Smoke 'em if you got 'em!!

Nice job everyone! My knees were bugging me yesterday, but they feel good today. I think I'm going to play it smart, though, and make the first day of 08 a rest day. I really feel like running and am DYING to get on the bike, but....

Today's factoid and der Kaiser's comment really ring true for me. It never ceases to amaze me how a seldom few people refuse to accept responsibility for their actions or ignorance. Like with the "scolding hot" cup of McD's coffee that burned somebody. Come on. It's coffee. Don't tell me they didn't know it was supposed to be hot. The list is endless in this sue-happy (by some) society. But enough of that.

Feeling really bad here. Was supposed to go to a party today, and had all intentions to do so, but when I got out of today's noon event, it was snowing, the roads were getting very slippery, I was cold, got home, the Ironmate wanted a fire in the fireplace, so I bailed.

5 mile Run Your Hangover Off New Year's Day race. Legs felt absolutely amazing considering weekend's 50k. Hung out with LRR, the Andyman, Seabuiscut, the Warden's daughter , and several others. Was a fun time. Little did LRR and the Andyman know, but as soon as they left the Irish American hall, site of the race festivities, the pasta a la tasteless crap was replaced with 10 pizzas.

Unofficial Results:
I'm with LRR... smoke 'em if you got 'em, Tri-dopes!
