Morning! Sipping my coffee and getting ready to hit the TM. So far, my calf feels much better. But if it hurts when I start running, it will be a rest day for me. Thanks for chiming in, Lora. Sometimes we really need the extra reminder to chillax if all is not right. Hopefully it will be fine, but it is definitely early enough in the season that I don't need to be pushing through.

Bob - your run sounds very entertaining! We have a local arboretum and there are constantly turkeys running around. I've never been chased, but they have run out in front of me and then freaked out and continued running as if I was chasing them. But it is too cold for turkeys right now. Boo. We have insanely frigid temps again for the next few days. The GOOD news is that it is supposed to be a heat wave this weekend (30s), and I am hoping to run a 5K if my leg cooperates.

Fail. I hoped on the treadmill and my legs felt like lead. 9:30 pace (recovery pace) seemed hard and my half was achey (not screaming, but achey). Result = unplanned rest day for me and I am sneaking my compression socks on under my slacks today. :)

Sorry to hear that your legs were barking. Yeah, rest days can be a good thing...

Heh, last night's run was definitely unique for me. Before anyone who reads this gets the wrong idea... Yes, I was sorta chased by a turkey last night. But I never had to break stride, and the bird never really got close to me. He was just running down the road behind me. I actually said something to him like "Hey, wanna join me for the rest of my run?" or something like that. But he couldn't keep up. So it's not like I was in any physical danger. It was more funny than anything. Like, what the heck was the turkey thinking? Why would you run after someone/something that outweighs you like 5-to-1? Very weird...

Bob - on the trails we run during the summer, there have been more than 1 bad encounter with turkeys. I am not a fan. Those things are big and often mean. There once was a woman surrounded by them...eek. Good thing yours was more of a friendly guy.

Mindi - take care of that calf. My right one has been a little tweaky on the snow. blah

3 miles last night. I almost didn't go because it was REALLY cold out and I was tired. Then DH texted and said he needed me to bring his fleece hat. sigh. My hands were painful the first 1.5 miles.

Dome tonight for speed work ~ no idea on the w/o but I hope it goes better than last week.

I "swam" this morning. It was ugly, but it was definitely a workout. I will need to get some sort of instruction if I'm going to really do this sprint tri. I'm not sure if I can instruct myself or if I need real lessons. I'll give it a few more tries and see if I improve at all.

I have encountered some pretty aggressive turkeys near me too.

No running this AM. Had about an inch of slush in the driveway, and temps are supposed to plummet as the day progresses, so I had to clean that up pre-work. Salt too. And my arm is still giving me issues at night so I have basically been awake since about 12:30. Not fun.

Mindi - hope you calf heals up soon.

You should look for the Swim Immersion cd. Very simple to understand and have helped me.

Amichel, let me know if I can help in any way. Not that I'm the expert (far from it), but I'd like to think that living with a triathlon coach for 8 years had some positive influence on me....

Epic fail on the second run yesterday. I was just way too tired, so I sat on my a$$ and watched The Wedding Singer instead. Probably a good thing. My work meeting, which had TWO WHOLE ITEMS on the agenda (yes, just two!) lasted from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. I was struggling by the end -- so tired, hungry, bored -- and probably would have been asleep in my chair if I'd worked out again.

So I decided I would get up early this morning and go for a swim instead.

You can guess how successful that plan was............

I am out of sorts and headachey. And this skinny hazelnut cappuccino isn't helping, in fact, it's making me a little queasy. Maybe I'm coming down with something. bah. I brought my gym duds for a lunchtime workout. I thought I'd run a warm up mile and then lift weights, but I may not have it in me. rats.

Hi all - I'd been running low-9 paces the past few weeks as "easy" runs, but my body aches and general tiredness were telling me that those might be a bit fast. My HR run over the weekend, though not quite under ideal circumstances, confirmed that feeling.

Yesterday I had 6.1 perfectly-paced miles (just below 10 min pace); felt really nice and like I could've gone another six easy. Also a fun thing was the time I clicked on my Ironman watch - 1:00:00 exactly.

Amy - along with all the other offers to help, I've got a Total Immersion DVD I can send to you if that will help any.

5 tough miles on the TM this morning. Sportscenter wasn't cutting it (doesn't help that they have a clock on the screen showing the time so I see the minutes crawl by) but pushed through and got the miles in the log.

Good afternoon all! Busy but very fun weekend in Southern California and just getting back to NYC last night meant a sleepy me and a bit behind in work. Luckily I was able to get myself together this morning and run 7.15 miles before heading into the office and catching up. I'm happy to report that things seem back to normal now at work and it's just 1:55 p.m. so I wasn't that far behind, I guess however I still need lunch and BAD!

At any rate, this race was more about being in the same place as my sisters, encouraging them in their runs and soaking up the sweet S.California weather for as long as I could. I ran a slow and comfortable race at 2 hrs although someone forgot to tell my legs to show up. They were flat as all get out; good thing I didn't have any real goals in mind for this puppy. What was awesome was seeing my 3 sisters running the full marathon at several points along the course - they totally rocked the day with 3 PRs too! (note: lil sis #3 got a technical PR as this was her first full) and running the first half of my race with sis #2. Also, we stayed with the most awesome people, they cooked for us, shared their home and made us really feel like part of their family. Plus they had an adorable dog that we all wanted to steal. All in all, a spectacular weekend chocked with smiles and laughter and miles.

Colleen – you’ll get your day!! That wind sounds like the suck

Shannon – the 2 man relay sounds awesome! I think I’ll be doing that for the STL Marathon in April

Wow Moonie, how warm was it over the weekend in SF?

Hey Kath. You ran a marathon in Montana, right? I'm sure you've said it a bunch of times, but I can't remember which one you did. I was looking at possible new states for the Summer, and of course there's not much then. But there are a couple in Montana. Missoula is on July 10, and Choteau is on Aug 6. The Choteau one seems cool, but it also seems REALLY hard (hilly like the one I did in Wyoming) and I'm not sure I want to go thru that again. Missoula seems a little more "normal", i.e. boring. Do you have any words of wisdom from Montana?

Congrats to you Maria and all the Pfeiffer clan! Sounds like you folks rocked it and your usual fun time together to boot!

Where I was, it was about 70 when I started my Saturday run (of course, I'm an idiot for starting a run close to noon) and near 80 when I finished. For the folks at the Kaiser HM on Sunday, it was basically 65-70 and breezeless during race time. And these are all in the shade temps - I didn't have much shade on my run and for the HM runners, the second half of the course was shadeless where the breakers are - definitely not the normal weather for SF in Feb.

Hey Kath. You ran a marathon in Montana, right?

How do you remember this stuff?

Yes, I did. I ran the Governor's Cup. But it has apparently been moved to September and to Billings. It is not at all the same course I ran. (Or the same sponsors/organizers.) It was the first week of June with I did it, and the course started in some ghost town up in the mountains and ended in Helena. It was a "straight" west to east course. After the first 8 miles (down a mountain on dirt & gravel "road") it flattened out for maybe a mile, and then was steep rolling hills the rest of the way into town.

Brutal.

From the start to mile 24, other than the water stop people the only spectators were a guy standing at the edge of his property with 2 llamas. So if you need crowd support you're kind of screwed. It was a closed course, and there just weren't roads for people to have access.

It was well organized though. LOTS of food at the end. And the volunteers were very helpful. Other than my legs SCREAMING for a week after, it was a good experience.

The new course looks like it's all paved. But I can't find an elevation map anywhere.

Well, I need to run in all the random states. Montana is pretty random. And you running a marathon there is pretty random. I guess I remember random things.

I'm not thinking about September yet. I'm looking at June and July beforehand...

Anyhoo, I only had 20 minutes for a run at the gym tonight becuase I had to pick the kiddo up at daycare. I guess 20 minutes is better than nothing...
