45 minutes in the pool for me. I have figured out some of my swimming flaws, now I need to figure out how to fix them. One is, I seem to be incapable of breathing and kicking at the same time. I will also be shopping for goggles today. I think someone asked about this not long ago, so hopefully I can find that thread.

Oofth. Despite a deep tissue massage yesterday, my quads are still quite sore from Sunday's race. I'm proudly suffering, though! :)

Amichel - though I never really figured out how to not fight the water last year, I do remember that I was told to make sure to try on goggles before purchasing them. You should be able to press them into place (without the strap) and have them stay put. If they're not a good fit out of the water, they won't be a good fit in the water. Good luck!

Amichel - just lick goggles that feel comfortable and when you press them to your face they form a suction (yes open the packaging)

I did a triple yesterday! The beautiful weather made me want to run. So I did. Then I did my scheduled bike workout. Then I met up with KP and a couple his students for Insanity cardio circuit.

Uhm, I'm sore. So today is a nice bike ride

Yoga did not happen last night. We were both way too sore (me from my multitude of insane workouts, GoV from a leg double Saturday and Sunday), so we skipped yoga in favor of some upper body weights instead. I'm seriously bummed about missing yoga AGAIN, but my legs are thanking me today.

Hey everyone! Whew - I got my filing done yesterday (which caused me to work all weekend and late yesterday), so I slept in this morning and then ran a nice little 10 miler. Lots of black ice out there to navigate, but since it was light out, it was no problem. There was just one problem though - I was *this* close to getting hit by a car. Scared the crap out of me and then REALLY p!ssed me off. The residential streets in my town are super wide (like 4 lanes wide for 2 lines). I was way off to the left and some 150 year old guy almost hit me. The worst part was he never even realized it at all. Gah. Glad I was paying attention. Be safe out there peeps!

The Seven Mile Bridge Run -- Marathon, FL -- April 9. It's sooooooo tough to get in -- you have to request an application, all apps go through the mail/PO Box, and they only take the first 1500 complete, correct, valid applicants. The apps are all mailed out on the same day, and within a day and a half the race is closed. Living in NJ, even with Fedex, I was doomed. Jen was more than willing to help -- THANKS! -- but I ended up enlisting the help of a friend who is actually in the Keys. I just got word that I got in! Yippee! Since I'm not doing a marathon this spring, I'm trying to fill my race schedule with fun, different events I've never done before. This was a big task to make this happen, but yay! It worked!!!

I'll return later with a less self-centered post. Gotta get back to class!

Isn't it rather unsanitary to lick goggles at the store while you're trying them on? I mean, who knows how many people licked them before you?

I had a really slow 6.75 mile run on the hills last night. Tonight I'll hit the TM for a short easy thing. Maybe some lifting too...

Morning all! Not quite as windy last night but plenty of it still gusting around out there; I decided to run inside CP to try and avoid the crazy-ass stuff along the river. Ended up with a nice 10K and will be getting another short run in this evening w/some stairs

Next race or hm? I have a 10k in 2 weeks, a 5k another week or two after that. The next HM is on 3-20. I'm not expecting to hit that elusive 2:15 there. My time on the same course last year was 2:24-something. It's a harder course than the Mercedes event was, but anything that's an improvement will be good with me. Theia thinks I'm off my rocker and can hit 2:15, though. We shall see. :) Thanks for asking!

Bah! This is the place for being self-centered! Grats on getting in! Woohoo! That looks fun. Challenging, but fun!

Oh.. question for you guys. While I do like shot blocks, Sunday I actually was getting a bit pissed at chewing away at my supply. They weren't overly aged, but maybe because of the temps they just seemed hard. I felt like I was spending too much time on chewing away, if that doesn't sound too dorky. I'm a mouth breather when I run, so unless i want to inhale my blocks, I have to slow down big time or walk. Therefore, I am considering trying gels again. Years ago, I did try one or two gels, but found them hard to open, and I ended up getting a lot on my hands. Yeeck. I couldn't tell you what brand I tried, though. Have you guys found that one brand is easier to open on the go, without wearing half the contents? Thanks in advance for any suggestions / feedback!

Ailarie - I like the GU brand. They have a built in tear notch and you can have lots of flavors. In regard to the shot blocks... I found that keeping the package in my sleeve kept them warm and easier to chew.

...be careful maria, you know that's their mating call right?

the notes about licking goggles made me think of the recent outcry of Tiger spitting on the green. local radio talkshows have been having a field day.

Ailairie - i second gu. easier to rip. you could even help it a little bit by putting a tiny little slice (pre-race) in the neck where it's supposed to rip...might make it a bit easier with sweaty hands and more likely to be in you than on you.

congrats solar! depending on the heat, you might be tempted to jump the guardrail and take a mid-race dip.

Ailarie, I like Shot Bloks for the same reason you do: I don't like getting Gus and gels all over myself. Yeah, the Bloks get a little hard in the Winter and a little soupy in the Summer. But I still prefer them over anything else.

I did some lifting at the gym and then an easy half hour on the TM...
