Good morning all!

Comeback day 2 for me -- another 6 miles up/down the mountain. Legs definitely feeling it -- the ups actually felt good, it was the downhills that were killing my legs...

Good morning everyone!

Nice job getting out there Loopy. Them downhills always get me too.

Me: 27 mile ride this morning. Caught a group of 10 cyclist after the 1st mile, rode with them for 5 more until they turned around. At mile 12 we passed a group going the other way. I figured we could catch them after we made the turn. So the next 10 miles I was riding at roughly 23 mph to catch them. I caught most of the group when they pulled up to regroup. We finished our ride with that group. It was kind of neat riding in a group of 12 or more. That is the largest group I have rode with.

Happy training everyone.

Morning all,

My friend with the Cubs tix cancelled on me yesterday so no seeing the Cubbies get their brains beat out last night, and no problem waking up for track this morning. The workout itself was the problem, we went indoors on 200m track due to thunderstorms. Was supposed to be 8x800 at 10k pace but I was not feeling it and slowed for the 6th and 7th at which point I bagged the last one. I blame the stuffy track and legs still feeling it from the long run Sunday. About 9 altogether with warmup and a nice little cooldown in the rain.

Loopy - way to go on comeback mountain

Dave - great ride to start the day,

Jebba- have a good run on the 'mill

BBS - hope you are feeling better & have a good one

Good morning everyone. I gout out for a warm 5.21 miles in 45:04(8:39). The television said it was 77 when I headed out, so I was ready for a sweat fest.

Dan- It sounds like you are making some great improvement.

Nice job to everyone who got out there and ran or rode this morning.

It was an odd morning for me. I ran 3miles to the gym but the storms that zrun mentioned were rolling in so we rather than being struck by lightening we ran inside. So, 6 miles on the TM, 5 @ 6:39 mpm (9mph). Call it a very sweaty tempo run. I should have run longer as my buddy's wife insisted she drive me home as I had to wait around another 20 mins for that. Chatted to other buddies at the gym while I stretched. So, now I'm feeling less than satisfied as I didn't get the volume I wanted. I may run a few pointless miles more later on.

kfuller - nice job on the 5'er +

zrun - 800s on the indoor track suck. If and when I run on our local park center track I do either a tempo run or a fartlek.

Dan - good to see you making progress

BBS - man, are you doing speedwork every day? You'll be running a 15min 5k by the fall when the temps drop to 99F.

Dave - that sounds like a nice ride. 23mph on the bike is my downhill pace. :)

Jebba - go beat up that TM!

Loopy - good to see you back in the saddle. Hope you're not too sore.

RA - Sorry the workout wasn't all that it could be

Kevin - Yet another sweatfest. Here's to cooler temps

zrun - Still, not bad all in all

Probably the best workout I've had since the road back. Even the last 9 minutes felt like running.

Tuesday is race day for me, at least this week. I've got a 5k tonight, the club's championship race for that distance. And no, I am not a contender to win it. But I would certainly like to make a good showing and run a fast time in what may be my final 5k for 2010. This will also be the end of what I'm calling my "summer season." I do have a 4.5 mile trail race coming up later in the month but I consider that to be part of my fall marathon training. 95 days until the New York City Marathon.

loopy - nice comeback run.

jebba - have a good 8

Dave - 23 mph for 10 miles?? I think I could do that for maybe one mile...downhill...with a tailwind.

BBS - good luck with the 800s

zrun/RA - sounds like a tough morning to run in Chicagoland

Dan - great job, excellent progress!

kevin - way to get out there despite the sweatfest.

loopy--good to see youb ack! I was begining to worry that the garden gnome got you!

Son1 and I rode the Buckeye Challenge route this morning. Certainly felt Sunday's race! Glad I got out there to ride the course, and get to know the hills. Didn't quite own the hill into Catawba, but getting there. Two loops and we managed to neg split it. 56miles.

Off to the doctor in just a bit. Way back in June I injured my calf. It's never been right since, and flared up big time Sunday. Figure I better have it checked out. Son1 also has a gimpy knee.

8 miles run and done. I watched celebrity gossip on the tv, so I know all about what's going on with Lindsay Lohan and Lady Gaga. To be completely honest, I only have a vague idea of who Lady Gaga is, aside from someone who wears fake eyelashes.

Some nice workouts today.

4BM - Heal up and get that taken care of.

I was able to get out at lunch and get a nice swim. The main set included 2 x 500 meters and I was able to PR both of them. The first one was by 2 hundredth of a second and the second was by 4 seconds. Who would have thought the second would have been that much faster. I was excited.

Back from the evening of racing. I had an unspectacular but I guess satisfactory result of 19:48. Given how my recent 5k performances have flatlined that's right around the mean. In other words a very average result.

On the bright side I did take down a longtime nemesis of mine. I noticed him ahead of me after 1 km and I decided no way in hell was he beating me again. I stayed in his slipstream until 2k then made my move, and didn't look back.

In retrospect I think doing so many 5k races (and only 5k races) this summer ended up making me a little stale. I needed to mix it up a little more, maybe throw in a 10k or 5-miler. That's not how I originally planned it but just the same, lesson learned for next summer.

Better get to bed soon. Need to get up early to run tomorrow!

Way to go, Hawk, this has been quite a summer of racing that you've had and way to knock off your rival. I gotta get to bed too, meeting someone at 6 tomorrow. Back from the office bowling party, I bowled a 181 despite having bowled only a handful of times over the past decade. Clearly, I have been focusing on the wrong sport.
