Good morning, TEAM LIT!

LIT: Thank you for tracking TEAM LIT during yesterday's Boston Marathon, and thank you for all the good words. We all had a blast at our now annual gathering at MJ OConnors!

Don: I was very surprised at the world record, even considering the wind at the back. It's odd: although the wind was at the back for most of the race and really at the back unlike any Boston I've experienced before, and although I knew fast times were possible, most runners I know had only mediocre (based on their ability) results. And with Boston being not exactly a world breaker fast course, I was most certainly surprised. Everyone was, I think. I mean, you don't set records at Boston. Everyone knows that. Or so that *was* the old train of thought!

Me...

1 mile Keep-the-streak-alive shuffle early this morning. A hurt'n puppy, that's me!

Great day, all!

Track Tuesday.

For a very few seconds, at the VERY end of the workout...when I was supposed to be pushing the hardest.

I was.

And, for those few seconds, my "current pace" on Brenda showed 7:08!

My HR was consistently high through the whole thing, and while every quarter mile wasn't descended in time, they were definitely descended by effort.

We did notice that on the back half of the track, I tend to die just a little bit. Have to work on keeping a steady pace/rhythm the whole way around.

Then, fun with balance exercises with Rabbit,

and on to fun shoulder strength stuff with Lisa.

My arms feel like noodles.

Bring on the Bay!!

DOR for me. I have never before hurt like this the day after a race.

By the time I really got out there, I didn't feel much of a tail wind.

Thanks all for thinking of us Boston runners yesterday! We had a fun time at the meet-ups. (Sorry cake I missed you.)

I had a looooong night yesterday. I barely made it to my flight home after the hotel shuttle dropped me off at a nearby T station after being stuck in the Boston downtown traffic for 10min (yeah I had to some running with luggage!). Then my connection flight got delayed. Got to Flint MI at 1:15am, only to find out my luggage (which I had to gate check-in) got lost. Pulled in my garage 2:45am.

I still had a good day, so no complaints.

2 easy miles today. Funny, I couldn't wait to get out and run today just to loosen up. But of course once I got out, I was reminded I ran a marathon yesterday with lots of downhills. I may hit a hot tub at the gym or who knows I even try to swim later.

Nice to see the Boston folks checking in today!! :)

Early morning 8-miler today...1 mile with the wonder dog (making sure a cut paw is fully healed before we go longer), 7 solo. Overcast and drizzly, which is perfect in my book.

Man - can't believe the Boston folks who are on their feet and shuffling/jogging/running today! Congrats to you all.

Me - morning 1800 yards swim. Have to find those good Mack's earplugs (Waterblockers) again. Stupid silicone balls keep falling out.

5 mile run at lunch - 7:57 pace. Not bad for second run of month, and definitely an improvement over last week's run (about 9:25 pace). Fairly strong 4 miles, with one easy mile between 3 and 4 (approx. 7:30 mm for mile 1; 8:00 mm for mile 2; 7:45 mm for mile 3; 9:00 mm for mile 4; and 7:30 mm for last mile). Nice start and finish...

Congrats to you Boston runner!! Man I was out an about at NOLA yesterday with the family trying to track folks with my iphone when I could, then got to sit in the airport for 6 hours because of delays. One of these days I'd like to do Boston, you guys seem to have such a good time. I guess that means I need to run a marathon to qualify, that's a bit too much effort right now :)

3300m in the pool WU 1000; MS 10 x 150 pull, 8 x 100 50easy/50 kick

Later run practice unless canceled. Hill repeats.

When you get your fill of triathlon and want to do something different, I highly recommend trying to qualify for and running the Boston Marathon. You know I've done a lot of marathons, and Boston is among the very best there is. The experience is truly unmatched. For the course, for the idea that you are among the fastest marathoners in the world in your age group, for the prestige, for it all. It is a race that never, ever gets old. You would have a blast.

Racing a marathon (over pacing) is hard, hard stuff. Ask Alaska Mike. While holding on to the run in each of my three Ironman, especially the last two when I did not walk a single step (well, I did walk three steps in my second, but that was it), was the hardest thing I have ever done, the truth is that holding on to a marathon in which you are racing hard, like accelerating the entire time, is a different sort of hard. It's far more acute the pain physically. Mentally it is different too. I think if you really try to compare that you will come out saying the marathon is easier, and I'd buy that -- though again it is different -- because of the one fact that by the time it gets ugly in a standalone marathon, you have 1:30 or less of running left. Ironman the run hurts the whole fucking way. But not as acute, and it's more from fatigue rather than pounded pain.
7 miles after work. My friend, K, is starting a group run from the pizzeria she and her hubby own and it is 3.5 miles from work. So I ran 3.5 miles there, ordered pizzas to be ready by the time we finish and ran the last 3.5 with the group. My boys fetched me and the pizzas when we finished.

My group run group meets downtown in front of coffee shops and bistros.

The pizza place is there too, but it doesn't open until lunch time.

We do bagels and paninis after our runs.

Pizza sounds more yummy.
