Day 3 of Carb Depletion. I woke up this morning feeling pretty good thinking that this no-carb thing was going to be easy. Well, that feeling disappeared on my very first stride of my run this morning. I had absolutely no energy. The gas tank was empty and here I was going to put in a quality workout. This turned out to be one of my worst runs in some time, but I'm not worried about it. I'm still battling a cold/flu/whatever, but seem to be doing better than I was last week.

4 x 1200m (Goal: 5:04):
1) 5:00
2) 4:58
3) 4:56
4) 5:00

Total workout: 7.5 miles. The rest of the week is pretty easy, but I'm not looking forward to two more runs with no carbs in the system. If I can get through these next two days, the marathon should seem like a piece of cake.

Flounder, when I start loading, what foods are good for packing in the carbs?

Good interval times Lofcaudio!

I managed an easy 5k on the TM. Then a short swim. Now I have to do some work before travelling up North.

3.5. No pain (but no strength either) for 2 miles. Discomfort thereafter. Could have run 5 but didn't push it.

I think that a BQ is out of the question now. Just focused on getting to the starting line.

Grizzly - Get healthy

Lofcaudio - I hear you brother - Actually if you eat something or drink s omething before Thursdays run in the AM doesn't really matter. I do not go no carbs - just much lower these days - 200 grams or under each day.

8 easy miles on TM this am

As much as I like the sound of that, I like the mental challenge of running with no energy. I have five miles planned tomorrow and then three on Thursday, so we're not talking about anything significant.

But wow...Thursday after my run...watch out!

10 miles @ what should have been an easy 8:13 pace. Had to mentally push myself to finish the run. Not enough calories this AM.

Eating now...

Lofcaudio - I know you said today was rough - But you hit all your times - So I believe that you are mentally and physically ready. Put in the fuel and taper and you will hit the line in good shape.

5 easy miles @ lunch outside - Sunny and @ 40F - shorts - wind breaker

4 mile run in 35:23 for an average pace of 8:41. I was kind of tight at the start so I took it easy until my legs loosened up. Played an hours worth of soccer at lunch today.

No run for me today folks. Scheduled day off.

Tomorrow I plan on doing a "scouting mission", I'm going to run the entire course of Saturday's race, and cross my fingers that they are only kidding about the snow on Thursday (6"-8" is the last report I heard). That would make the trail very tough, if not damn near impossible for the race.

Nice efforts today everyone. Get healthy Grizzly.

6 on the TM this morning. Kept it at about 8:49 pace, but did four 800s at HM pace (8:00 min/mi). Felt really good. Followed up with some stretching.

Wow I am getting frustrated once again...coach says we are working on foot speed today for the distance people, yet he complains we are out of shape. Doesn't that mean do endurance things? Guess not...

More flippin' speedwork that is way too early in the season for. 1 lap w/u, 400 in 1:08. 8x200 w/ 200 recov. in 32, 35, 34, 33, 33, 33, 33, & 33. Then 7x100 with standing rest for about 30-45 seconds in 13, 13, 13, 15, 13,14, 17. Then 400 all out in 1:10 and I was friggin' dead.

I don't know if our top sprinter is not really trying in workouts but I was first in I think all but 3 of these and not racing...just going real hard. I think being he is a 100/200/400 man he should be flying by me but oh well.

Have a good night all.

For the second morning a row I completely ignored my early morning workout alarm. I have decided to not even try for the rest of the week. That is what break is for.

I moved my scheduled cardio to Sunday, and took a great yoga class at a real yoga studio this afternoon. I will be feeling soreness in places I didn't know I had tomorrow.

8+ miles with Porter the wonder dog after work this evening. My legs felt MUCH livelier than the last week or so.

I was running behind some of the nicest calves I've ever seen for a 3/4 mile or so of the run. Wow. Too tall and the wrong generation for old married me, but wow.

8 miles easy, with the last 3 on the track while I watched the Tuesday club runners. Cooled down with 6x 100m strides.

I've trained for the last 12 weeks with a group going to Boston. Monday will be exciting to follow.

Lofcaudio- Using a Jack Daniel's program? That 4x 5min @ T-pace sound awfully familiar. I've run my best marathon on that program.

I hear what you're saying about your workout. Not to worry as you hit the times. I think its the carb depletion that made the workout feel more difficult than it normally would. Good luck in St. Louis. Sounds like you are in shape for 3:09-3:14. We're rooting for you.
