Good morning Roy,
Glad to see that you're feeling better.

I got up at my regular time this morning but it's taper week for me- so no running today. I feel so guilty and it's sooo nice out. Now for a nice bowl of oatmeal before I head out for work.

Good running to all today.

Labduck, would you say that you're 100% now? Is it the orthotics that made the difference?

Morning all -

Its been a rough few months - winter I guess took its toll. No, I don't have any running to report, but soon I hope. Its been so long now, I need to start over. I did get into a groove of going to the gym a couple of weeks ago (running was difficult, weights were awesome on my muscles) & then went to LA to visit my dad last weekend (well really it was to see Wicked), but good thing I went. Dad is doing really horrible.. the diabetic ulcers are now on this hands, and he looks like a shadow of who he was even 2 years ago when the feet started having problems. So sad

My son is doing better, I have him reorganized & back on a behavior chart (oy! at 12 yo's old).. the kid is so visual, I guess thats why it helps so much. Just hoping one day, he'll be able to function on his own... the day of driving & thinking of college scares me - the kids is just SO distracted..

So on to me: today I look for a running program. Is there a good beginners one here? does anyone have a suggestion? Tonight I find one, tomorrow early to the gym & start!

Roy - yay for your run today glad you are feeling better!

Good morning to all. Rindaroo, have you looked at the C25K program? I know that a lot of people swear by it.

I had a meeting early this morning so had to cut my run short. I walked 1 mile for w/u & c/d, and ran 2 miles. The running part was a bit faster than usual, in order to amp up my effort level. Then stretched for 10 minutes.

Tomorrow I have to go for a stress test. My bp is higher than it should be (and I do take meds for it) and my heart rate absolutely zooms with very little effort on my part, and my breathing isn't good. So they're checking to see if my 3 leaky valves are doing bad things. I know that I've been throwing some pvcs. Dr thinks it's unlikely and that I'm just having a bad asthma season, but we want to be sure. Wish me luck.

I luuuuurve tempo runs! They're great bang for the buck--excellent training stimulus for any distance, with minimal injury risk--and I love the feeling the hard, steady effort. Today I got to do my first one in something like seven months. It's a beautiful day here and I was smiling all the way through my warmup in anticipation.
Seven miles, with 4 tempo miles at 6:45 avg, AHR 170 (91%) for the tempo section. The pace needs to drop 15-20s/mile before I'm really there, but it's a good start, and it felt wonderful to run hard today.

Everyone have good runs, and beware of garbage trucks.

Thanks for asking mill. I'd say my foot is somewhere between 80 - 85% healed. I still can't run in my orthotics, but I've had several adjustments made to them that have helped me get closer to that day. They have helped with my daily activities, since I'm on my feet about half of my work day.

My foot has good days and bad days. My podiatrist has me running in the Superfeet insoles for the time being. I ice everyday, twice on days I run, and I limited my miles to between 20 - 25 per week. And I also was given permission to begin stretching the PF in January, and to use the Strassburg sock at night. All of these have helped to some degree.

Right now, yardwork hurts my foot more than running. The unevenness and softness of my lawn puts lateral stress on my foot that running does not. Unfortunately, it's that time of year when yardwork for me will be increasing, so I'm a bit concerned. Maybe if I had artificial turf...

Rindaroo-----good luck starting out!
CassadAA----Wow! What a great run and nice pace!

I was supposed to do an 8 miler, but after that crazy workout yesterday I only managed 6.3 slow miles. I'm looking forward to rest day tommorrow!

I broke in a new pair of shoes today. I always wear Saucony, but while shopping in our local Bob's Store, there, in my size, was a lonely pair of Asics Gel Kayano 14's. These go for $135.00! Here they were on clearance and I had a 20% off coupon. I got them for $75.00! Gotta love those bargains! (Hally, did you get this?)

Have a great day!

I started out in the dark today and ran into the day light...sort of a progression run, you may say. 7 easy miles just trying to find my groove again after the bad head cold I have had for the last 10 days. Looking forward to my semi long run of 10 miles tomorrow.

I added another mile tonight to relax the mind. So...please give me 32 points for Team D

Rindaroo, I am so glad to hear that you went to see your father...I hope you had fun pampering him. Diabetes is an awful monster, isn't it...my mother died of it several years ago...thus the reason I am a runner today. Here is to wish you good luck with your new training program!!!
Peter, embrace and enjoy your taper time.
Riley, sending you hugs and hope all is well at your Dr. appt. tomorrow
Labduck, artificial turf will help you with your moss problem too. Great to see you running so well again.
CassadAAmius, I hope to have the same joy next time I do a tempo run. Thanks for reminding us of the "gift".

Good Morning All,

Susan - good luck on that stress test. Here you were complaining about struggling past the 3 mile mark. Some leaky valves could explain that. Take care and keep us posted.

Cassad - nice tempo! And Lynden's flying too. I need some speed, but 19 degrees is just too damn cold for me to feel sproinky right out of the gate. Did a 10K+ (needed the extra VRAA pt) 52:42, (8:28 overall pace) progression run starting at 9:15 and finished the last 0.2 at 7:50 pace. Come on heat!

Rindaroo glad you got to see your father. On the starting over again. Go for a 20 or 30 minute walk run. Walk for a couple of minutes then run for a couple of minutes.

Susan good luck on your stress test.

Good morning all! No run for me today. I planned on going to the gym during lunch, but we have a staff meeting that I guess I should show up at . . . But I got in a run yesterday, which normally doesn't happen on mondays, so it all evens out.

guess I should head over to the weekly thread and figure out what I'll do this week.

Yes tomwhile, I'm listening. Thanks for not joining me in my pity party.

I've got two more weeks until I get my new orthotics, and then I'll try to start up running again. I probably shouldn't even be walking much either until then also. Hopefully by then my hamstring will be healed a bit more (it's mostly scar tissue I've got at the origin rather than new tears). My PT basically just told me to massage the sore area myself several times a day, but in a very specific way. As for when it hurts the most (while I'm driving), I guess just sitting on my fist will have to do for now.
