Mornig all,
Maybe we need a pot of coffee in the mornings to get us started. Can't believe I'm starting today. 8.25 miles this morning 69 degrees 90% humidity. Was feeling sluggish and tired when I remembered these 8.25 are in honor of Kevin. Hope you enjoy them Kevin.

Hope to get a few more tonight for me

Good morning ks. Nice run. Thank goodness the result turned out well for him.

I went to bed even before the kids last night. 'Just felt zonked!

So 8 really nice miles today with 10, 25 second strides thrown in. Even the drivers were nice today and let me pass without stopping.

Happy Tuesday!

You did a lot more striders than me, Gin. I ran last night, and today's a rest day. I ran 6.15 miles in 1:02:39, right on pace at 10:11. My 4 striders were a little too slow but at least it got me back on pace during mile 5 because I was slowing down quite a bit. I wanted to keep my pace steady in the wind, but there was no way that was happening because it was 16-36 mph. I let the hills dictate my pace otherwise.

This morning coming to work in what the kids are calling the "ghettomobile" was different. It has a cassette player so I pulled out an old Dead bootleg tape. Listening to "Scarlet Begonias," I was transported back to 1984 when all I owned was the boombox that played that tape and a Suzuki 550 motorcycle. It gave me goosebumps.

I'm just spinning my second cup through the Aeropress at work, but won't get out to honour Kevin until lunchtime.

We're the disappointed objects of another premature weathergasm. Instead of snow, snow, snow, I drove to work in slush. Dangit.

Good morning. I sure do need my coffee in the morning....

I had a better workout today than yesterday. For one thing, I fell asleep around 9 or 9:30pm and slept until 5:30 this morning, so I got some extra pillow-time and I think I really benefited from that. Also, I tried to drink more water last night and perhaps that was helpful too (not sure).

In any case, I only had a short time to workout this morning because of an early meeting, so I may continue the rest of my workout this evening.

So far, 2.5 miles running and 15 minutes stretching. My breathing was better and my legs weren't as tired. I felt much, much better than yesterday.

kevin50 is One of Us and survived a heart attack last week that would have taken out most people who weren't as fit, smart, and just damn lucky.

Gin, if that's the worst mess you make today you're doing pretty well. Speaking of which, I merged these threads from my mobile phone. Groovy.

No running here, but I did an hour of strength training for Kevin. Orthotics are in the shop.

Happy Tuesday, all.

Millionbot - thanks. I can barely make a phone call on my phone let alone merge a thread. It's not that I'm so old and ignorant (debatable) it's that I need my glasses to see clearly enough. Can't drive and do the phone with reading glasses (safely).

Good Morning Kicksters! Still no caregiver for Kay! I have to keep my indoor excercise very short or Kay gets stressed out. Sometimes it is difficult to deal with her dementia. More so for her than for me though. Took her to dinner and a movie the other night which we both enjoyed. Wanted to take her to a nice place but she prefered BJ's where she knows everyone and she had liver and onions, buffalo and elk for me. Very good movie, The Bucket List with Jack Nicolson and Morgan Freeman.

The outdoor conditions really havn't been suitable for anything as it has been changing from slush to ice to snow, a bumpy and unsuitable surface. What I have been doing is working on my cadence every day, short runs on the treadmill with a recorded metronome on my MP3 player. I choose 184 steps per minute as it is an even graduation of the metronome. 180 is average, 184 is musically correct.

When I learn to play a song on my guitar, and practice, if I make a mistake, I do not play through, I stop think it out and start over until I quit making the mistake, then on to the next mistake. This is what I am doing with the running with the metronome, when I get out of sync, I stop, think it out and start over, in hopes that I will learn to play my song at 184 steps per minute.

Yestarday I had some moments where I was totally in sync and was beginning to relax and it was like one of those profound awareness moments, ah Ha! I remember years ago at work there was a group of folks there having a daily contest jumping rope to see who could do the most. I became interested in that and started practicing at home. Starting out I was jumping too high, the cadence was slow and I was wearing myself out quickly, making myself sore. Over time I was barely clearing the rope and my cadence was quick and I could do this tirelessly and became the work rope jumping champ. This is what I noticed with running with the metronome, "I am jumping too high!" my shins are taking a beating making me sore. This is going to be a good running year.

What I will be doing for awhile is short runs several times a day with a metronome along with timed high bench leg lifts. Inspite of things I have no control over, running is always an adventure.

Good runs all, Larry

Good Morning! I'm back at work today after having a snow day yesterday, had my morning latte but not sure how long I'll be staying at work. Woke up to rain this a.m., no biggie, so got all ready for school and work. Was driving my son to school when I heard on the radio that his school district is closed - in anticipation of the next big snow storm moving in. Try as I might, I just can't get out of my Minnesota upbringing mentality . . . "closing schools because snow is in the forecast????" you've got to be kidding me! Well, DS was highly upset - crying - because he wants to go to school so badly. I called up a friend of mine, whose son is david's best friend, and David went to their house to play for the day, and I headed in to work. But I guess if the snow starts accumulating and getting bad, I'll have to head home early, or I'll never get my little Alero up the hill I live on.

And of course, this snow is supposed to continue off and on all week and my first thought was "This is REALLY screwing up my marathon training and getting my VRAA points in!!" arrrghhh!!! I'm still hoping to make it to the gym at lunch time though . . .

Hello frens,

5 miles in honor of Kevin today. 40F and gray skies along the river, but I was glad to be out there. 8:30 pace and it felt like work. Just a month to get down to that 6:30 10k pace that emcee apparently thinks I can run... I sense it's not happenin'.

Is this the daily run thread? I did 6 miles at lunch. Sunny and hot - temp up in the 40's! But it was good to run in shorts for a change.

welcome to our daily run and chat thread Arrojo. I noticed you joined us the other day, but I didn't welcome you then. We start a thread here each day and you can join in the conversation, whether you are running that day or not.
