Had a great time at the game last night. Temps were relatively cool for us, shady, and a breeze coming off the bay. Ball game was boring until the 6th inning when they finally woke up and began to play. We won8-3 over the division leading team. Only a few games left in the season and it wasn't a good season.

7 miles this morning and had to slow down a couple times. Could a hint of sproink be returning?

A woman came into our services last week and interrupted. Her son had been missing for 3 days and he had come to our Wed youth activities twice. No one had seen him yet that weekend. That evening some of the kids said his mom locked him out Friday night. He has been found. On my run this morning a man driving towards me and stopped to ask if I had seen his son (he gave me his description). Seems he had run away as well. So many families are in trouble around our country.

Hope to bike and run again tonight.

Tom White should be sharing good news this morning if he shows up.

Hiya Rip - you always post too late for me to respond. Good luck this weekend.

Hi Tamster....missed you....Taking some time away from racing may be a good idea. You'll come back with renewed interest & energy.

Nice PR TW and intro too.

Like Ks. my 7 miler in the woods this AM was rather sproinky too.....that's 3 out of the last 4 now.....won't last, but I'm sure enjoying it while it does. 65°F this morning and a cool breeze, I'm sure that had something to do with it.

I tried the pads today for the first time..like Mike & Heme told me, they felt a little funny at first but I soon got used to 'em. I still have to do some fine adjustments on the positioning though. The box said "just behind the ball of the foot", now I have to figure out what "just behind" means. No numb toes though, but obviously the jury's still out on any delayed effects.

Speaking of old men lost while trail running. A few times I've been running along in the woods just completely zoned out, the brain a million miles away, and then came to, so to speak, and didn't recognize where I was. I just kept running until I did, which usually took around 15-30 seconds or so. A very strange feeling though. I guess I've got that to look forward too.

ks, I don't envy you your job. Good news on the sproink-o-meter.

Johnny, I hope those pads work for you. In the meantime, consider dropping bread crumbs on your trail runs.

8 miles, intended easy/GA, but I seem to have found a new gear lately. Overall avg 8:19, seemed effortless. Cooler temps this morning helped. Fall is around the corner up here.

Nice w/o tw. That's good news.

oh, I see I posted on the wrong day. I guess since it's my Monday back to work, I figured it was Monday everywhere

in that case, Happy Belated Birthday HappyFeat!

Thanks John. Yeah, I think taking a break from racing will renew my enthusiasm. Plus, there are just other things occupying my time at the moment and forcing myself to get out in the heat to run was making the running part not any fun for me, and really there was no reason to feel like I HAD to run. I don't HAVE to do these races, there are always others. I did get out for 4.6 miles yesterday morning and I might even go for another run tonight.

Hi Tammy! Glad to see you drop by. Taking a break will probably be a good idea... I'll likely do the same in about a month or so.

Johnny....good news so far on the running with the pads. It was recommended to me that when you finally get it right, to stick the pads in place with double sided tape. Mind you, I haven't done it yet myself, as I keep switching shoes around, but I'm getting pretty good at the placement.

Yay, TW!

Hi KS..... hope you'll be seeing more of that sproink!

Hi Mike.... the training is paying off!

Hi HF, Rip!

Did a spin class early this morning. Towards the latter part of yesterday's run, the ball of my left foot started to hurt a bit (the right one with the neuroma and metatarsal pad was fine), and this morning it was a bit sore standing on the pedals at first. Think I need to add the other pad in and see if that makes a difference. Will see tomorrow.

Found out our legal department is hiring another really good runner. She did Boston in 3:14 or something, at age 46. Sheesh.

Got a message from Henrun and Marj this morning..... they're coming to TO in a couple of weeks and would like to meet up. Cool... can't wait to meet them!

You'll love Henry and Marj, Heme! They really are a very sweet couple. Funny as all get out, too.

A word of caution on those pads, Johnny. I used one for my wonky right foot for a long time and at first it really helped. But I think my foot "healed" in some way where the pad was no longer needed, and it became the source of the problem. I don't use any now, and while my foot has healed with an odd lump on the third metatarsal joint (the hammer toe is the 2nd toe, and was the original problem), I don't have any problems running on it. Just can't really wear heels anymore, but that might not be a big deal for you.

Happy belated birthday, Happy Feat! Sounds like it was a good one.

Mike, isn't it fun to feel like you've got that new gear? It seemed to happen for me last year sometime. Actually, it was after taking time off for my ankle to heal up, then cross trained like a mad woman for months leading up to Boston. PR'd at Boston in '10 and seems like it's just getting better. I'm having a great time. Keep it up!

Ks, nice to see some sproinky runs for you. I've been gone for a bit (again)... did anything turn up or you just needed a break? Hope all the missing kids are accounted for.

^5 to tomwhite! Hope we get some details on what you've been doing wrong all this time? Or did you share and I missed it. (probably)

Rip is ripping it up as always. Your elliptical workouts just make me wilt. I find anything over 20 minutes feels like a challenge.

Tammy, hope you get your mojo back. Sometimes it's just an ebb and flow thing. Go with it when you've got it. But you're right. We don't make our living doing this. If it's not fun, why do it? Nobody says you have to race. Ever, really. I was thinking what to do after Equinox. It's been a heckuva year of running/racing for me, and I really don't want it to stop. But... a break might be good. Maybe end of September kinda thing.

Saturday's xc 5k race went well for me. 23:35 which is a course PR on that hilly beast, and I beat several younger women, and my nemesis (but friend) who aged up this year. Then I ran home for about 10 miles for the day. Sunday I had thoughts of doing a last hilly 20+ miler, but I was tired; slept in and got busy doing errands all day. Then had to take DS2's kitty to the vet... she "found" a staple sticking out from the bottom of the couch and cut her leg pretty badly. Stitches, a leg wrap and a big plastic cone on her head. Poor baby. Finally got out for my run after 5 pm and had no "oomph" at all. Made it 11.5 miles before DH found me and gave me a ride home. Took yesterday off, just hit the gym at lunchtime.

Today's run was back to business with 6.6 hilly trail miles at lunch, 8:15 overall average. That average is funny because some of those miles are half in the 10:30+ range and half in the 7:10 range. Such is the nature of running hills, I guess!

Tom - I thought I was going to read maxi pad.............

And Johnny - how do we know he doesn't wear high heels?

I finally think I have some hope on the horizon. I'm going in for a lung test a week from tomorrow and then see a pulmonologist the following Friday. It's not what you know; it's who you know in some cases. I've been thinking about this problem I've got. I feel bloated like I overstuffed myself at a Thanksgiving dinner which causes one to have trouble breathing a bit. But I've not been over eating at all. So I don't know if the feeling of bloating is a symptom or problem or if the breathing makes me feel bloated. I can't catch a deep breath when I want or need to. That doesn't bother me so much as why do I seem to be needing more deep breaths lately even sitting at my desk? Hopefully this specialized vet can give me some answers. I can still do my workouts but they are harder than they should be or I just run them slower or less distance as need arises.

Rode 22 miles tonight with a group.

Well that is concerning, KS. Glad you're getting further evaluation. I've never had the exact same thing - no feeling of bloating - but there was a time a few years back I had an ongoing problem feeling like I couldn't get a deep breath, couldn't get enough air, even when not running. For me, it was nutritional. Sorry to say I have such a bad memory, I can't recall if it was anemia or low magnesium. It seems to me it was anemia because I had it around the same time. That's fixed now, but I still take a multivitamin with iron and an extra 600 mg magnesium every day. Haven't had the feeling of not being able to take a deep breath for a long time now it seems.

5 slow, but not EZ miles for me tonight. I'm beginning to wonder if the 3-miler the day after the long run is affecting me, even though it feels fine at the time. My legs were really complaining tonight. I'm cancelling tomorrow night's tempo-8 and will do another slow 5 I think.

Thanks Tom and HappyF. I went to my dr several years ago feeling weak (anemia) but didn't diagnose anything. Again it was in the heat of the summer. My coach is a physiologist and diagnosing from long distance he is suggesting a gluten sensitivity. So lots of opinions and hopefully some answers soon enough. I'm still going to run my fall marathon but with no goal times this year. Ah hates that <In my best deputy dawg drawl>
