I'm up, but working, instead of working out:(

This might mean I can meet up with the running club later. We'll see what the day brings.

So, adding on to yesterdays conversation - when do you start tempo workouts? I think I get the concept, but not the plan or execution.

I didn't run yesterday, but I'll make sure I get some kind of run in today.

I do tempo runs once a week during marathon training. I don't have a marathon on my schedule until March and I'm really not in training mode right now, so I haven't done a tempo run for a while. But I'll get back into it before too long...

Good morning Amichel and Bob and all who follow!

Skimmed through yesterday's thread, interesting thoughts on tempo runs. Tempos are some of my favorite runs and like RIL said, I also think they are a key component to long distance training. The longer the better. I've got one on tap for this Thursday, can't wait.

Haven't run yet. I'll head out this afternoon. I can't believe it's already 60* out there already!

yeah, it's been warm here too. I think I'm going to run some track intervals today. We'll see.

Windy here today. 20-40 mph constant at the moment, in a couple hours supposed to be 30-50 constant with 60+ gusts. And a big storm coming through.

I'll just be in the basement throwing pots. Amazing the difference a day makes. Still ache a little, but nothing like yesterday. I can tell it's getting a little better. Overall, I mean, not just he ache from the treatments.

Amichel, I purposely do weekly tempo runs when I'm training for a race. Sometimes I do accidental tempo runs on my own without really trying (but those have been less and less frequent recently....).

Track tonight, but I don't know the exact workout yet. Probably weights afterward, too. I have to make up for yesterday's hellacious swim with a good workout tonight.

Morning all! I got out for an easy 5.7 miler this morning with my Tuesday running buddy, Tavia. We kept it short and extra easy as she was just in a car accident on Sunday but walked away w/out a scratch. I may or may not get out for another small run this evening

Amy - I generally do tempo runs as part of race prep, often at two different points in a training cycle.

Morning!

Monster storm blowing through for the next couple of hours. We are currently under a tornado watch!

Fitness to report!! WhooHoo! Powerflex last night and I really tried to push myself. This is the time to build strength for me and carry it over into a half plan in the new year. I also managed a short warm up run on the track at the Y. Minus a bad bra, it felt pretty good.

Crazy storm here too with serious winds. Enough to convince me to sleep in this morning rather than get up and run. Oy. It is a taper week for me (half marathon this weekend), so it isn't a big deal, but I will need to go out tomorrow and it is supposed to still be very bad out there.

I'm just glad we are not doing our GOTR practice 5K this week. A friend of mine is doing their group's tonight and it is going to be a serious challenge.

Hi all. Got in 35 min on the bike trainer plus assorted post-ride stretching. If anything, the trainer will get me started up again on my Netflix queue.

Maybe some light strengthening after work today. I do have some ART scheduled, but there must be something to this cutting back thing - other than the typical chronic cranky spots, I'm starting to feel a less beat up than I did even one week prior.

Good runs, workouts, healing up and/or rest days to you all

Good morning peeps!

My first email of the day was from Gino Torretta. There's a blast from the past!

No fitness to report, but the effects of the cortisone shot have been great. After that initial "wearing off" feeling passed, the next few days have been really good. Kim the AT told me to not stress it and to allow it to get used to being "normal", so I've put off the treadmill work until tomorrow. I've just been doing some light stretching and assisted calf raises in the mean time.

My training partner from the summer relays just broke 40 for 10k! Now he wants to break 1:30 for the half, and I think he'll easily crush that by a few minutes.

I want to go back to bed

3 miles yesterday and then I lifted.

Light speedwork tonight (mile repeats at GRP plus some other short stuff)

Tempo runs - I kinda like them but only if I can run them with another person or in a race setting. I have trouble mentally doing it on my own.

I remember that name well. My wife and I were in the Alabama Marching band at the 1993 Sugar Bowl. Good times.

Yes.

Although I think to save space in the kiln I'm going to throw several smaller pots (probably more like vases, so they'll look like turned legs), about 6-7'' tall, that all have a 1/2'' hole top and bottom, so I can stack them up a dowel. Also, it would probably be more practical if the legs were removable... so I need to find some hardware for that. (Which will mean either a trip up to the woodworker store or a phone call to my dad. No biggie.)

The sports med doc cleared me yesterday. Told me he hopes he won't see me again. Reminded me to increase my running slowly, but set me free to do so on my own.

I told him I would prefer to go to PT a few more times as I restart my running so I can continue to strengthen the leg. He agreed that would be a good idea for this week and next.

I ran 2 miles today. Slow, and they were separated by a 2 minute walk, but I did them -- pain/tightness free.

I went to the track after work. Planned to do some 800s. Only did a couple and felt like carp so I shut it down. Planning on running a double tomorrow.
