going to go check out the VRAA board to see what team I'm on and how this game is played . . . after my coffee that is . . .

I'm taking another rest day from running. I'm going swimming this afternoon, though. I did get up and do 40 minutes of hip exercises this morning, so have racked up 5 VRAA points.

Tomwhite, where in your hip is the pain? What activities cause pain? (Is it only when you run, all the time, or what?) More information, please.

Millbot, yes DH is also running the Bizz HM. I've been trying to decide if we should make this a scenic run instead of trying for PRs or what. A part of me really wants to enjoy this beautiful trail side-by-side with him instead of worrying about trying to beat him to the finish LOL. I really don't want to get sucked into believing every race needs to be a PR. Is that blasphemy?

OK all, advice is requested. As you all know, I had ripped my calf muscle last Christmas & went through 4 months of physical therapy. Well on Sunday, after stretching & then walking for 5 mins, I started running and developed a horrible cramp & knot in that same calf muscle. Today there's a big red spot about a size of the diameter of a cup where the pain is. The red spot looks like it's going to turn into a black & blue. I absolutely didn't hit my leg so my feeling is that this is from bleeding inside the leg. Any suggestions? It's still painful but I'm not limping anymore and I've started doing some light calf stretches to increase the blood flow to the area to promote healing. BTW the red spot isn't hot, so I'm sure it's not a blood clot.

Advice & suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
Oh, and I did 40 mins on the elliptical this morning and 10 minutes of underhand rowing.

I'd think about going to the dr on this one. Especially since it's a re-injury.
Sorry about the problem
Thanks -- I just made an appt with the orthopedist to see him again tomorrow afternoon. This is so discouraging! I'm extremely frustrated.

Rats. Sorry about that, Susan.

On the bright side, by seeing the orthopedist now, you'll be back much sooner than you would otherwise. If you have to take some time off running, there will be XT activities you can do to retain your fitness. That's how I arrived at my regular XT routine, which I have come to enjoy.

Good luck, and if you have to stop running for a while, don't disappear! We want to hear from you!

TW, I think you should go to the doc. The fact that it hasn't responded to a couple weeks of rest is troubling. (I think your doc would want to rule out a stress fracture). Also, if it's not a serious, stay off your feet type injury, it might benefit from physical therapy - which your doc could prescribe.

got in my run at lunchtime. 4.25 mi on the TM in about 40 min maybe? maybe a little less - wasn't paying attention, was too busy chatting with John - that's more important than my time anyways.
