Mornin' KickFrens!!!

Got into the gym early this morning, warmed up with the spinners and then spent 45 minutes working on the hips, glutes, abs, core and stretches. Then I made the mistake of stepping on the scale. Acchhhh! Up another 2 pounds!?! And this despite consistently logging the highest mileage that I've done in years. Guess I need to ditch that second glass of wine I have when I get home! Drat!

Morning Heme! May I suggest that your weight gain is due to increase muscle mass and not something else? Whenever I increase my mileage and core work at the same time, which I think you're doing, I will gain between three and five pounds. That's what is happening to me now while I try it rebuild my quads that disappeared over a year ago after knee surgery.

Today is a PT day, after which I will get this week's running assignments. I think it will be around a 35-mile week, which is more than usual for me even when I'm not rehabbing!

Yesterday I decided I wouldn't try to run until Thursday. So today I decided it would be Thursday. An unplanned route in the neighborhood hills, never looked at my watch until it hit 3 miles, then thought I'd go a little more... next thing I know I'm past 4... but I figured I shouldn't push it for my first day back. The uphills felt fabulous, the downhills created some slight lowerback discomfort, so I've got to learn how to do those better. All total, 4.36 miles in 42:37, feeling nice and relaxed the entire time. So 5 days off was enough, whew!

Heme, it doesn't matter what the scale says, it's how you look and feel in your clothes. And also out of them. You need to feel good in your own skin, plain and simple.

That said, what we put into our skin (i.e. body) matters. Lately I've been slacking off from making smart food choices. Just been too lazy to make salad All.The.Time. But that's my go-to food, and so I can't be lazy about it. When I upped the salad intake last summer, my haywire hormonal symptoms virtually disappeared. And now that I've fallen off the salad wagon, my symptoms have returned. Coincidence? Maybe. But it's still a good habit to be in, eating lots of greens, so there ya go.

Labduck, I've been meaning to comment, looks like you're doing fabulously lately with your running, assisted by PT. So excellent!

Hang in there, tomwhite, it will come...

Twiglet legs, funny, Gobi. Mine are more like redwood tree trunks...

Happy Tuesday Thursday, everyone!

Heme, I feel your pain. I think something is askew with the universe, as I've been packing on pounds at an abnormal rate as well.

Had to reopen the ol' Fitday account and start keeping track of the tonnage going into my mouth again. Man, we sure do turn into

fat-making machines as we get older.

Heme, you look fantastic in your red bathing suit picture.....but here's some cheap advice anyway if you're concerned with a few pounds....don't drink calories. Either that or get the flu. I went from 159 to 153 in a week in December after having the flu and haven't been able to gain it back as yet.

Typical Tuesday 7 mile run in the woods today. Was there a football game over the weekend?? Oh yeah.....Puppy Bowl VII. Go Paulie.

Tamster...I got in a 15 miler down in CA over the weekend, tried to run the last 5 at 8:30, but the wheels fell off around 14, so I'm conceding the RR 1/2 to you (II'll try to enjoy the view from behind )

Hi Johnny - I was thinking of posting a shout-out to you today as I knew you were down in Cali this past weekend. Hope all went well. My long run this weekend was just 13, instead of 15. and I didn't pick up the pace any during it. just a constant 9:45 or so. So don't concede just yet . . . but i'll try to make the view worthwhile, just in case. . .

brrr, it's cold out today. What happened to my mild warm 50's?? lunch meeting today, so will have to wait til after work to get in my run.

G'day, Masterfuls.

Another inch or two of snow, followed by rain, meant another unplanned cross-training day here. Probably due to rest the legs, as I had run four days in a row, includinga very good five-mile effort yesterday.

Nice 15er, Johnny-o

Heme I hear you're pain. Running got a good amount of weight off me but could never get me where I needed to be by it's self.

However recently I have shed a few pounds and my only real change has been some moderate portion adjustments and on Johnny's vein, I halved my beer ration.

At my lowest weight in 15+ years, but I still have some belly fat to burn.

Twas still sore, quad sore from Sunday still.

But I ran 2.6 and felt the better fer it.

I like Rip's motto.

Lab's theory is pretty good too.

8 on the TM due to more snow this morning - just enough to make the drivers skittish. Included 6 x 0.5 mi intervals at 7:30, with 0.25 rests at 8:52. Feeling like I need an easy recovery day tomorrow.

Sorry for the late post. I had just enough time after my run to shower, get dressed up again and go to the County Election Board for the annual school election. I did a 5-mile hilly run. Some people would call them baby hills, but I'm not naming names. I was instructed to warm up, stop and stretch the calves, then for the rest, "try to keep pace or push just a little up hills, recover a little at the top, then resume pace. This is not a killer workout like speedwork, but it's not an easy day either. You should definitely feel done when you're through." I was between 7 & 8 pace on the short but steep hills so that's exactly how I felt! Avg. pace 9:04 and I'm very pleased.
