I am scheduled to do a sprint tri this weekend. The current weather forecast is for T-storms and high winds. The swim portion is indoors.

Do they typically still run triathlons in T-Storms?

I will be there either way, just wondering.

I know the big ones here have alternate plans in case of severe weather. They will turn it into a duathlon or just a 5K run. Usually the swim is the first to go, but if it's indoors, they can do that part. Depending on if it is deemed safe or not, they may and may not do the bike portion.

Last year, CapTexTri got completely rained out in May. It was REALLY bad, though. The transition area had 1 foot of water. It would not have been safe to do any part of the tri. Everyone understood, but it kind of stunk, especially for those who traveled here to race it. This year, they moved the race to Sunday before Memorial Day so they can have a makeup day. (Last year it was on Monday)

I would think that if there is lightening involved, they may delay or cancel completely. Even if the swim is indoors, many pools here close if there is thunder/lightening for liability reasons. You could probably contact the RD and see what the alternate plans are.

I live in FL and if there is thunder/lightning they will delay it then cancel. Dont want people on the course with lightning. Heavy rain and winds? they have it and you slog through it.

Good luck, hopefully you may just get a little rain and get to race..

Well here is the response from the race director.

The event will proceed rain or shine. In the event of lightning we will postpone until it passes. If it does not pass in a timely fashion we will change to a run bike run event. We do not anticipate having to do this as we never have had to in the past

David, that's exactly what we were told at my first tri... that we'll wait for the storm to pass for a certain amount of time, and if it doesn't end, it will be a run-bike-run. Ended up with perfect weather... overcast, no rain, no heat...
