OK....
So, hobey says (and I'm reading between the lines here) that stitch doesn't want to swim in a diaper that's wrapped on her hiney with lycra.

So...since I tend to shop online for stuff....

What are the "good" (but not super expensive) brands/styles/places to get tri shorts...
and, for the wimmin'
what're your preferences?

I see stuff about the various number of panels.....what is the difference in feel between the 6s, 9s, etc.?
Are there ones that don't make you look like a person with sausage legs?

I'm no fashion diva or anything...but I don't want to look like someone's breakfast!! There's that foodchain thing rearing its ugly head again!

Are they all the same style?
Do you have a pic?

I'm such a visual shopper....(*sigh*)
The convenience of online shopping is great, but there's just no substitute for being able to TOUCH things.

I don't like leg grippers in mine. They do the sausage thing.

I have a pair of Desoto ones, too, that I got for cheap at the end of the season at my LBS. I haven't tried them yet.

Tribob has a great link for tri shorts that I can never remember. Hopefully he'll pop in.

Desoto, Desoto, Desoto.

I have 3 Desoto tri short/tri tank top combos. I LOVE the material AND they don't have elastic at the bottom, so you don't get the mid thigh sausage roll........highly recommend them...see below:

http://www.desotosport.com/products/...a&ProdID=WCTS8

Let me say up front that, last checked, I'm a guy.

I've been through several different brands of Tri-shorts. Here's my take from a guy's perspective:

DeSoto: Love them! My absolute must "useable" pair. Liked them so much I bought an identical pair. Not flashy. Fit good (not great). Feel good (not great). But zero chaffing. They just work, and they hold my Tri-package just so. Think they were the "Power Shot" or something like that.

Sugoi: Love the feel and look of them. Both the male Tri-short and the unisex Tri-short. They compress muscles well and just feel great. But as much as I like them for these reasons, and as many pairs as I have that came with a uniform of sorts, they suck for doing long distance efforts because they never fail to cause chaffing to my Tri-package. So although the goods sit pretty, they don't feel that way after a while. The chaffing is caused by seems that cut across the wrong bits. Maybe I'm too endowed, but I don't think so.

Pimco (sp?): Feel to free in these, as if my Tri-package is just lofting around, lollying about town, looking for a next prey. They even will often start to turn me on (no kidding), and although that may be too much information, this is to say they are silky smooth. Took me awhile to like them, but I do. But also, they are hardly my chosen pair. But they work well on long rides (ie. little to no chaffing).

I LOVE Tri-shorts. Among my favorite things about getting into triathlons. And I always wear in my running races when the weather sucks. Because they eliminate nearly all chaffing as long as I stay away from my comfy feeling Sugoi's.

ZOOT!!! Coming from a cycling background, I always wore very padded shorts. Since I got my Zoots, they are all I wear! Sure, I might end up iwth a bit of bruising (note to self--never schedule a GYN appt the day after an ultra-endurance event...), but the Zoots wick much better so NO DIAPER RASH!!!

Ok with that said, can tri short be worn in a pool? Are there Tri shorts that are designed for a pool?

Ack!
I swear this will not be TMI...

I had an appointment soon after I'd been hiking with a dude I was pretty seriously dating. On this hike, I happened to have my feel slide out from under me on a ****** rock, and I slid down the rock face.

OUCH!

Doc saw the rock rash on my back....right above the waistband area....I guess also an area that might be commonly used for abuse....dunno for sure, though.

her: "what's that?"
me: "that's where I discovered that gravity was much more in charge of my descent down the rock than I was"
her: "don't do that.....lol"
me: "thanks. :S"

Incidentally.....dude said to me after he caught me and kept from face planting into the prickly pear cactus...."that's how I know you love me....you'll leap from rocks and slide down them while hiking." me: :SIt's not like I PLANNED to do that to demonstrate my feelings or anything. sheesh.
he broke up 7 weeks later.
lol

See....us wimmin's
we have to worry about the girlz.

If the girlz ain't happy, ain't nobody happy!

There are certain brands of sports bras that hold 'em just right...and others....well...they're good for weights at the gym and not much else.

That's why I think I'm going to have to wear something under my suit....to keep the girlz happy on the bike and run and not add the extra variable of changing in to things.

My zoot shorts say "don't wear them in the pool"

Speedo makes Jammers...which look like tri shorts, but don't have a chamois! Buy a speedo, my friend.

In fact, buy some jammers, then I'll tell you if you look HAWT in them on Sunday!

Since most of you women are wearing tri shorts and tri tops, what kind of sport bra are you wearing? I wear under-armour bras. I'm not sure how they'll do swimming. I sweat a lot and I swear these bras can hold up to 5 lbs of fluid. I don't think I want to come out of the water being weighed down with a heavy bra.
I don't need a lot of support. I just need comfortable and quick drying. It's hard for me to order on-line. I'm not proportioned according to listed sizes.

Oh, and 4boysmom, what is it about Zoot that you like? I'm going to need tri shorts with the most padding.

Stitcher: I'm 5ft 8 and wear a size 10 and I got a large in the top and the bottoms. I definitely wear a wicking running bra under my tri top.......C cup and ain't no way any "built in shelf bra" going to hold them up.......

Get the Desoto...it's worth the cash. Also, they come out with a new line every year and if you look around the internet you could probably find the 2007 models discounted.....

I love DeSoto as well. I have 6 pair now. I prefer the low-rise as well. I can't tell you so much about size though. All of mine are size small, and fit great, except for one pair of XS...they won't be worn in public. The smalls fit great (I'm 5'5" and was 135 and am now 124 - they fit fine at both weights).

You don't need to get the newer expensive ones they make for women, the regular cheaper ones are good. I just got these: http://www.desotosport.com/products/...a&ProdID=WCTL8 in graphite and they are really fast looking!

I also got a pair of the 2007's on sale: http://www.desotosport.com/products/...ls&ProdID=RTL7

As for the micro tri short...micro is very generous. They are going back...

Kim: Just saw your post.......I LOVE the champion bras....only ones I'll wear. They are great in the water, good support and dry well. Highly recommend them.

As a "get to know you" activity in my class last semester, I asked the students to practice using the assignment submission tool to send me a simple text message with information that would allow me to remember them. (I'm bad bad with learning names, and this is one thing I do to stick names in my head).

My tri-student wrote....Hi...this is tri-student. Since we swim in the mornings together, and you've seen me in my tri suit....I think you'll remember me. 'nuff said."

lol

Thing was...he wasn't creepy.....
it's the FIRST time that I've had someone in my class that I've swum with...so, he was rather right.

I like moving comfort bras (fiona) for my larger than average girls. I wouldn't dream of running in just a shelf bra. Gah. How painful.

I only wear my tri shorts in the pool during my actual tri that has a pool swim. Otherwise I just do my swims in my regular suit. Chlorine will probably damage them if you do it too often. But once a year for my tri isn't bad...
