Any feedback on them? IMLP is going to be my first IM I can't drive to and even though I'm flying Southwest and own my bike box I'm thinking it still may be cheaper to use Tri Bike Transport when you factor in the larger rental car required to carry my own and the hassle of traveling with a bike.

Thanks,

They are great. I used them for IMWI and IMCD. Much easier, bike is assembled when you get there, and you just hand it to them after the race. Definitely the way to go. Good luck in you race!

Used them for Canada in 2009. Everything went without a hitch and they drove it all the way from where I live in NJ. Took a while for the return but not an inordinate amount of time considering the distance.

Thanks for the feedback everyone! I went ahead and signed up for the service. Even though I'm flying Southwest it was still cheaper to have Tribike take care of it rather than worrying about airline fees and bigger rental car, plus the hassle dragging the bike through the airport.

Ron - 13 pages!? Good lord, it will take me longer to get through the report than it took you to complete the race. Going to need a beer when I sit down with that one!

RonBo - I skipped the bag option. Flying Southwest so I can check my transition bag for free and I'll probably carry my aero helmet on. Since the bike leaves five days before I do I would rather have all my gear (especially things like bike shoes) for the final five days of training. I'll be reintroducing myself to my road bike that final week.

Thanks for the suggestion though!

ETA: You should see the back seat of my truck when I go up to Wisconsin for IMMoo. I pretty much have a two spare sets of everything, except maybe the bike which I bring my full set of training wheels with me. Going to miss being able to do that at Placid.

Do you want to FedEx a box to us so we can bring it up?

(of course, I don't think we'll be up there until Saturday night... but if it's a backup you're looking for...)

Thanks for the generous offer Monica, but it isn't necessary. I'm pretty sure I've never had to actually use any of my backups. It's more of a security blanket than anything. This will actually be my first tri that I haven't been able to drive to, so it will be interesting. Worst case if I run into an emergency I'll be able to buy something at the expo (at expo prices!).

There are at least two really nice bike shops in Lake Placid, so not necessarily a need to buy something at the expo. I had to buy a tire last year and the store didn't jack up the price or anything.
plus we're not driving up to NY until Friday evening, and we do own an insane amount of tri crap, so we can always bring you something if you really don't feel like buying another one (like a race belt. are we the only people who own a million of the damn things?)
