OMG that looks like so much fun (in a masochistic kind of way)! I can't wait to read more. LOVE the team name BTW, sound appropriate for the race

That looks spectacular (and spectacularly difficult). Is that a harness that I see between the two runners in the second pic down? Not sure if it's for safety or to ensure that they don't get the two hour penalty.

YES. That "harness" is called a tether. Tethering is a common way for teammates to work together, where one helps the other by "pulling" them up the mountain. Together you can run that much faster if done right. Team HumpMe will not be using a tether. It wouldn't exactly go along with our team name.

It will be tough for sure. I know you've been training really hard and should do fairly well. Don't be overly surprised if you can't run close to the same pace as your training though. The elevation of this race is much higher than anything in the east. Heck, I noticed it when running in that area a few days ago and I live at about 6000 feet. Be careful with trying to bomb the downhills as that can really take a toll on the body in a race this long.

Thanks for sharing in my excitement, Team! This is going to be epic.

Posted on the site (http://ironboy.wordpress.com) are more "Reasons (to do TransRockies)", complete with awe-inspiring pictures, and a goofy interview with Team HumpMe!

Don: You're right about the elevation. That will be our biggest challenge. My teammate is taking that popular medication to help with the acclimatization, while I myself do not think I will. I do okay in high heat and humidity, when the air quality is very pour, and they say that is a good indicator at how you'll fare at elevation. But I'm prepared for the worse. Either way, we'll make it work. Thanks for the head's up! We'll take whatever pace is necessary so that we can breath, even if it's an inch long stride or a walk. It's all good. We have no expectations of racing, so this will be an experience type event as opposed to an on-edge affair.

When I was a kid, my Dad would take us trail riding up in the Rockies (we lived north of Denver) for days and days. It was on one particular trip that I saw people hiking the Continental Divide Trail [that we were on] and I told my Dad that I wanted to hike it, not ride it. Now I wanna run it. Jeesh!!!!!

You are going to have a blast- and the scenery is IMHO, is the best there is. Have fun Thor!!!!!!

Thanks, Tammy!

You know, the route we take supposedly crosses the Continental Divide. Perhaps I'll stop for a picture there. And hey, after the event, Heather and I will shoot up north of Denver to explore that area. Either way, very fond memories for you with your dad doing things like that with you!

Thanks again for the good words and letting me share this awesome experience.

Thanks, Yoshi! Very excited. I love going into events such as this where you know before you even toe the starting line that it will be one in which you will never forget. My memory bank always has room for stuff like this. Push that comfort zone, that's what it's all about, and that's when the richer experiences are typically had.

Few more posts up on the blog (http://ironboy.wordpress.com)...

And check back in an hour or so for the introduction to our audio blog podcast. We did our first. It's a little rough, but it is the precursor for many more. My teammate and I recorded it after last evenings run, like when we had just stopped running, so we're a little out of breath. It was our last Thursday trail rn together before TransRockies and marked the end of our training.

Link will be posted on my blog later. And on top of that, we plan to record and upload audio each day. We'll talk about the day's stage, give a description of it, talk about what was brutally hard, what was funny, what was awe-inspiring, camp life, how we are faring over the miles, and everything in between.
