I'm up, I'm up!!!

Thanks for all the thoughts on training, folks (both online and privately). I'm a little better now about it and have decided that this year, I'm just going to have a good time with it. It is what it is. If I have a good day, yay. If I don't...oh well. I've been just putting too much pressure on this "gotta have a good marathon goal time" thing and it's making me not really enjoy it anymore.

Stretching advice yesterday was helpful! I'll be sure to hold my stretches for the full 29, no cheating. :D

Cars/bikes/texting/phones not paying attention--I see this kind of bad "but it's all about me and what I'm doing" behavior in my suburban parts (!?!) a lot. On Saturday, I saw an inline skater texting and I said to him "Oh for god's sakes! Put it away!" It even bothers me when people go for a walk with their phones. I mean, I can understand bringing it with you for important reasons, but we all could do ourselves a huge favor by unplugging just a we little bit.

The worst texting/exercising thing I ever saw was in Kauai--a woman kayaking in the middle of one of the most gorgeous, remote places ever and she was on her cell phone saying, "And then I said...and then she said..."

Have a great day, gang! Gotta hit the TM for 9! Tony Soprano will help me through...

(Oh, Clare is speedy).  :)

I'm up too - mornin!

You know, I readily admit I am way too plugged in. I get my e-mails on my phone and my colleagues and clients expect me to be readily available (as does my child care provider and DH). However, I never text and drive (nor check it while driving) and I do make a conscious effort not to check it while out. It truly scares me that young kids do text and drive ALL the time. It is not safe. I remember running on the beautiful lake shore path in Madison and a woman was running while talking on the phone. Really?!

Why are you on the TM Melis?

I am headed out for a few easy peasy miles. It is already warm and humid. Gah. This weekend is supposed to be beeeyooooootiful though. :)

Unsure of when we'll roll into town but staying at the New Haven Hotel (229 George St) Sunday night. I'll get in touch when we know more esp. if we're there early enough to maybe do dinner or something. Cool? Cool!

I'm pretty sure I'll be having dinner with my parents on Sunday night. Part of the reason I go there every year is to visit them, of course. So I dunno if I'll be available to meet up that night. But we can talk more as the time draws near.

G'morning folks.

Interesting evening at spinning yesterday. Before class, the instructor told us that the Y would be open 8-1pm on Labor day, and that since our afternoon spinning class wouldn't be available, that she was going to teach one at 9 am that morning. though she hadn't yet decided if it would be a 45 minute (standard) or one hour class. Immediately I shot my arm up with the number 1. She looked at me, laughed, and said "okay.. one hour it is". I think I made some momentarily enemies from my fellow participants. Ahh well.. They'll get over it!

Had a bit of a scare too. The guy that rides next to me each week is a large man. Both in height and girth. At some point we were doing some standing speed work, and all of a sudden KABAM!!!!. One of his clipped-on pedals broke in half, dislodged from his shoe clip, and was sent flying to the wall behind us, while he just stood there. I was afraid he might have damaged a hamstring or calf from that sudden stop/shift, but apparently his form was good and he just fell back on the seat. Whew.

Tonight will be a 5-miler on the TM.

Happy feet, everyone!

Ugh it is tropical rain forest weather out there. Steamy, thunderstorming and it is currently POURING. I have 6 on tap today and I'll be on the treadmill too since it's supposed to last all day. yippee. I ran 5 last night on the mill too cuz it was so beastly hot.

I don't think my treadmill is accurate, I had it set to 6.8 and while I felt like I was running at a good clip, it seems like on the gym TM I'd be shooting off the back at that setting.

OK better get moving, I'm taking the bus in today and do not want to miss it and have to walk to work in this crap. yick.

No run for me today so instead I'm helping a friend with her Xtend Barre certification. She's teaching a free class this morning to a few friends.

Whew. It was 75 degrees and 90% humidity this morning. But I ran slow and easy and ended up with a very enjoyable 8 miler. It is 8:22 and I am hanging out, playing on the computer and chatting with the boys. Good stuff. I am thinking we may go to the batting cage this morning if it doesn't rain.

Clare - hope you get that all worked out. My hammies and calves are pretty tight still too today - I am going to make myself break out the foam roller shortly.

Bob -  back atcha.

Ailarie - wow - that sounds like a crazy scene - glad he is ok.

cheryl - what is Xtend Barre?

Brandy - good luck with those 800s - are you hitting the track?

BigG - yuck on the treadmill. But I guess at least you have one, right?

My treadmill is totally on it's last legs. For a while it was stopping at around .8 miles. Dead. Stop. But then I didn't use it for most of the summer and the few times I have it hasn't done that. But last night the belt was squeaky and yelping like I was stepping on a puppy every time I set my left foot down. Maybe the gym teradmill tonight.

Is it not raining in MSP?

  ~~~ hammies and calves~~~~  Those are foam rolling vibes. :)
2 miles this morning (C25K, W4D2).   I'm guessing most of you won't post monthly totals until tomorrow, but I'm pretty excited about this.
Well, if I run 6.3 miles tonight I'll have an even 155 miles for the month.  I like round numbers.  No decimals.
And I spent a silly amount of time doing some calculations and figure that I can easily get to 1000 miles for the year, which will be a first. Last year I hopped on the treadmill at about 11:00 p.m. on New Years Eve to get .7 miles in to get to an even 900 for the year. Yes, I AM a little OCD.
I was thinking about that 1000 miles and how Missy and Allie got 1000 miles PLUS in during 9 months of pregnancy.
5 miles this morning, faster than they should have been. Sneaky humid out.
Not the same thing, but cheryl's Xtend Barre reminds me that I should try out the beginning ballet dvd I got from the library. Should be entertaining, because I am not all that graceful.
I guess it doesn't bother me so much.  I am weird like that - I like being plugged in.
I am really looking forward to my run tonight.  No particular reason, I'm not stressed and in need of a run or anything. I'm just looking forward to feeling my legs moving.  Even if it has to be on the treadmill.
