Ok, it appears that I never saved a copy of my last e-mail to the group, so I’m going to steal Tom’s formatting a bit.

Training for: Hartford Half Marathon, Philadelphia Marathon
Current PRs: 1:28:18 and 3:11:59
Goal times: 1:25:59 and 3:04:59 for now – I may revise them as I see how my training progresses

I’m currently in Week #2 of the Daniels Elite marathon training plan. Prior to starting the plan I built up my base and finished it off with three weeks at 75, 80 and 80 miles. Week #1 of the plan was 64 miles (detailed below) and I feel much better than I thought I would given the speed of the long run. Week #2 is also 64 miles. I will report back on how that goes on Monday.

Last week:

Sun: 6 miles @ 8:10
Mon: 18 miles – multi paced – ([email protected]:00, [email protected]:05, [email protected]:38, [email protected]:05, [email protected]:38, [email protected]:05, [email protected]:00) - average pace of 7:11
Tues: 6 miles @ 8:00
Wed: 12 miles @ 8:00
Thu: 5 miles @ 8:10
Fri: 12 miles – 8 @ 6:35, 4 @ 8:00 – average pace 7:05
Sat: 5 miles @ 8:10

64 total miles

1. If you think I'm 30, then you can stay as long as you want.

2. Fiance? He's going to have to go.

3. You might want to provide us with a post similar to those above to tell us about your background in running and your current running goals. We'll be able to help you out a lot more that way.

Those are some impressive mileage totals. I'd be interested in hearing how you fit the miles in too. Is it early AM running for the most part? I once put in a 101 mile week and running felt like a second full-time job.

Thanks again for the advice on the Daniels plan both here and on CR (I'm assuming you are runforfun over there). Its always great to get some perspective from those that have tried it in the past.

Well, week #2 of the Daniels Elite plan is in the books. Overall it wasn’t that bad, but my schedule is still pretty screwed up in terms of my quality run scheduling. Eventually I’ll get everything back on track. The week looked something like this (going from memory here):

Su: 7 miles @ 8:10
M: 12 miles @ 8:00
T: 10 miles @ 8:05
W: 9 miles @ 8:10
R: 8.5 miles - 3.9 miles @ 8:00 + (5 x 1000m @ 3:40 and 6 x 400m @ 85)
F: 9 miles @ 8:10
Sa: 17.5 miles – multi-paced ([email protected], [email protected], [email protected], [email protected], [email protected]) – average pace of 7:38.

Total: 73 miles

Ok, for VRAA purposes I tried to squeeze in a mileage win by skipping my rest day this week, so I’ve further screwed up the entire weekly cycle. I think I need to stop being so competitive. Congratulations to JoPlus who managed to win the whole thing this time.

What I need to do is get my long run to Sunday mornings, so I’m moving it up to Tuesday this week and then, hopefully to Sunday next week. I also screwed up this week by putting my quality runs too close together and by running the 1000m repeats a bit too fast (should’ve been 3:46ish). Overall, however, I feel good. Only 56 miles this week, so I should be able to get my schedule back on track without too much trouble.

Anybody else find it amusing that PTom and Baggs ran exactly the same amount of miles this week and PTom is psyched about a new mileage PR while Baggs is lamenting his lack of productivity? Ok, maybe it’s just me…

Theia – Scared? Miss "I-Place-In-My-Age-Group-In-Every-Race-I-Run" couldn't possibly be scared. There are no speed or mileage requirements here.

Welcome Kruss and JoPlus. Feel free to jump right in and tell us how we might improve our plans. Part of what this thread is all about is an exchange of ideas.

16 more weeks until Philadelphia.

Oops - didn't give him credit for all of his PM miles. I think that actually makes it funnier in my book.

Cut back weeks - Daniels cuts back mileage every 3-4 weeks during the training plan, but the intensity - not as much - or at least I don't notice it. I do take easier weeks as I feel I need them when I'm building my base. They certainly aren't planned, however.

Week three of the Daniels Elite marathon plan are in the book. It was an easy week mileage-wise, but had a few difficult workouts thrown in there:

Su: 5.5 miles @ 8:00
M: 6 miles @ 8:00
T: 5 miles @ 7:59
W: 18 miles @ 8:08
R: off
F: 6.5 miles @ 8:00
Sa: 15.12 miles – 2 miles @ 8:00, 4 miles @ 6:38, .5 miles @ 8:00, 3 miles @ 6:38, .37 miles @ 8:00, 2 miles @ 6:38, .25 miles @ 8:00, 1 mile @ 6:38, 2 miles @ 8:00 – average pace - average pace = 7:06

Total – 56.12 miles

The heat wasn’t all that bad - mostly because I only ran outside on Monday and Friday - although the last 2 miles of Friday's run were awful as I was really beginning to feel the effects of heat. Both Wednesday and Saturday were done on the treadmill – they were exercises in patience more than anything. This week was much easier than I had anticipated. Let’s hope it stays that way.

This week I have 72 miles planned, but might run a few more for VRAA purposes.

How did the Yassos go TJOCF? Right around 3:40 I’m assuming?

Good luck with your races PTom and PC. Man, I wish I still had some 5k speed.
