I have a marathon coming up in early November. While I’m ahead of schedule, I do have a minor complication. I signed up for a ½ in October, and then another ½ I had entered for September was rescheduled for October because of flooding – so I now have half marathons on consecutive weeks in October, 3 and 4 weeks before my marathon. I’ve already done three 20-milers in training, and would like to fit one more in. My question is whether it would be better to do my last 20-miler 5 weeks before the marathon, or 2 weeks – which I fear may be cutting it close. Any advice?

I would race the first up 1/2 marathon. Then I'd run the next 1/2 marathon at slower than mp effort and add on the other 7 miles if you feel like you need 20 miler. Probably a good effort and then cutting back the effort totaling 17-18 miles would be more than sufficient. I assume you are masters age as it takes a bit longer for recovery. I raced my last race before my upcoming marathon (15k) four weeks prior and I'll run my last 20 two weeks prior. We are all an experiment of one so let's see what the others have to say.
