Time to get my fat ass on my skinny bike.. I've got my "racing tires" on my wheels and Monica want's her wheels back, so I need to change the tires. Any suggestions for a durable tire I can ride all winter/spring, but that will not be too bad on the road and fairly quiet on the trainer?

And if you really want a tire that can go road AND Trainer, then use a pair of old tires, even a set of last season's racing tires, that you don't care about. If you do not have a set, remember this very request of yours next time you go to swap on new ones -- hold onto the old ones.

i used a conti trainer tire, it was hellish to mount but works nicely. Any tire that you can run through the winter will have a hard tread compound and will not vork as well on the trainer. You generally run a different tire on the trainer. I just use an old wheel with the trainer tire and swap to a winter road tire when I go outside.

Thinking a tire will last for months and months is unrealistic.

Half the reason I got new ones is that my old tires were TOAST! cut, and beat up.. :)

if you plan to ride outdoors in MA, you will need some tires free of cuts, something like a bontrager hard case or specialized armadillo in a 25 c size if they will fit on your bike. They still get chewed up from the debris but you will have fewer flats.

getting them on and off is often a chore, so get a second wheel for the trainer with a fresh tire. Old tires are OK on the trainer. You can ride your winter tires on the trainer if you have no other options

I think I always move into the winter season using what is left of the road tyre I have used on my training wheels. This year I have spare wheels so I am replacing the beaten up road tyre with a conti indoor tyre

Will be interested to see if it is quieter

in 25+ years of mounting bike tires, that thing was the worst. I had snapped pictures of it to post on ebay as I gave up but read a tip that suggested using soap lather to lubricate the bead and I finally got it to pump up without pinching the tube. I have no idea why they make them so tight. Once mounted it's a perfectly good tire.
