Is this when Tornado season regularly is, or is it earlier than usual this year?

So this isn't usual? Why do you have sirens then?

Around here they only set of the sirens if they've spotted a funnel cloud.

Tornado Watch = circumstances are good for development of tornado and we'll scroll annoying messages along the bottom of your screen and we'll interrupt your broadcast every other minute to tell you about it.

Tornado Warning = We're pretty sure there's a tornado and we may or may not have seen it yet. Get in your basement.

Tornado Siren = It's coming right at you. Duck & Cover. Now.

Wow. The sirens went off through the day yesterday and we barely got rain (and it wasn't even heavy like weather.com said it would be). It was sunny and calm here, even when the sirens were going off. Definitely no tornado. but I guess some hail hit some areas close by-- I guess tornados can do that when they come close by, just leave other areas untouched.
oh, wow - release from my city.

"Although the City has received some inquiries and even criticism in regards to the decision processes in activating these sirens, our public safety professionals will continue to take a proactive stance."

It could just be that they can't isolate which sirens to set off and also that they set them off for ~30 minutes when the storm passes in 5.

I walked out of the grocery store one day to tornado sirens and a sunny sky. The tornado itself was ~5 miles away.

And, every summer (our tornado season) at least once per month someone criticizes whoever sets off the sirens by saying that they set them off too often and people will stop paying attention to them if they keep at it. And they respond with hey, we gotta do what's right and balance safety with vigilance decrement.
