<span style="font-family:Georgia;"><span style="color:#000000;">If my running serves no purpose, at least I know it gave my mom some satisfaction for five full days...</span></span><br><br><span style="color:#000000;"><span style="font-family:Georgia;"><b>Why do you run?</b></span></span><br><span style="font-family:Georgia;"><span style="color:#000000;">I began running ten years ago when my mother was diagnosed with cancer. At the time, it helped me deal with the heartache that she was going through. The doctors removed the cancer that year, but it came back six times more, haunting her for the majority of the last ten years. She passed away in September of 2007.</span></span><br><br><span style="font-family:Georgia;"><span style="color:#000000;">So now I run in her memory; but over the last ten years I’ve also fallen in love with running, and now I run to win.</span></span><br><br><span style="font-family:Georgia;"><span style="color:#000000;"><b>What is your greatest accomplishment?</b></span></span><br><span style="font-family:Georgia;"><span style="color:#000000;">Winning my first marathon, the Omaha Marathon, in September 2007, only five days before my mother died. There are two reasons I wanted to do the marathon:</span></span><br><span style="color:#000000;"><span style="font-family:Georgia;"><b>1.</b> For my mother</span></span><br><span style="color:#000000;"><span style="font-family:Georgia;"><b>2.</b> To qualify for Boston</span></span><br><span style="font-family:Georgia;"><span style="color:#000000;">I did NOT go into the marathon expecting to win. It just happened. I also qualified for the New York Marathon—also not intended. My mother was able to experience these accomplishments with me, and all that matters is that she knew I did it for her. I buried my medal with her.</span></span><br><br><span style="font-family:Georgia;"><span style="color:#000000;">Oh yeah, I guess another equally great accomplishment is my education. I have a Bachelors degree in Accounting, a Masters degree in Finance & Economics, and a Masters degree in English.</span></span><br><br><span style="font-family:Georgia;"><span style="color:#000000;"><b>What is your motto/theme song?</b></span></span><br><span style="font-family:Georgia;"><span style="color:#000000;">My motto is to do the best that YOU can do. No one person is alike and, therefore, your approach to running (or anything else, for that matter), should not come strictly from someone else’s experience. Your experience should be your own.</span></span><br><br><span style="font-family:Georgia;"><span style="color:#000000;"><b>How do you deal with bad runs?</b></span></span><br><span style="font-family:Georgia;"><span style="color:#000000;">I don’t really have bad runs. Every day that I am able to run is a good run. The closest I come to a bad run is if I’m sore or just not feeling it. Afterwards I just log the miles, and think about how good it feels to have done it.</span></span><br><br><span style="font-family:Georgia;"><span style="color:#000000;"><b>Do you reward yourself for good runs? How?</b></span></span><br><span style="font-family:Georgia;"><span style="color:#000000;">I don’t reward myself, no. I guess that’s one of the reasons I don’t have bad runs—because I treat all runs the same.</span></span><br><br><span style="font-family:Georgia;"><span style="color:#000000;"><b>Who do you admire most?</b></span></span><br><span style="font-family:Georgia;"><span style="color:#000000;">My dad. He was there for my mom for 29 years, giving her everything he could give her. He is still there for her memory, always reminding my two siblings and I how much she loved us, and what we had.</span></span><br><br><span style="font-family:Georgia;"><span style="color:#000000;"><b>What is the greatest advice you have ever received?</b></span></span><br><span style="font-family:Georgia;"><span style="color:#000000;">From my parents: Always do your best, no matter what the goal. That way you know that what you gave was all you had--even if you don’t succeed, even if you aren’t as great as someone else.</span></span><br><br><span style="font-family:Georgia;"><span style="color:#000000;"><b>What do wish you had learned younger?</b></span></span><br><span style="font-family:Georgia;"><span style="color:#000000;">How hard it is to live through the death of anyone, much less a parent.</span></span><br><span style="font-family:Georgia;"><span style="color:#000000;">And how easy it is for me to run. If I had known, I might have tried out for the cross country team or something.</span></span><br><br><span style="font-family:Georgia;"><span style="color:#000000;"><b>What do you wish you could do but can't?</b></span></span><br><span style="font-family:Georgia;"><span style="color:#000000;">I wish I could run for a living. That would be awesome.</span></span><br><br><span style="font-family:Georgia;"><span style="color:#000000;"><b>How would your friends describe your personality?</b></span></span><br><span style="font-family:Georgia;"><span style="color:#000000;">Vibrant, whenever I’m social. I’m a pretty introverted person. But whenever I’m among people and feeling like it, I can be pretty talkative and energetic.</span></span><br><br><span style="font-family:Georgia;"><span style="color:#000000;"><b>What do you wear running? favorite outfit?</b></span></span><br><span style="font-family:Georgia;"><span style="color:#000000;">I wear the typical running tank tops and running shorts. I like loose fitting running clothes that way I have room to move. Not baggy or too big, just loose fitting.</span></span><br><br><span style="font-family:Georgia;"><span style="color:#000000;"><b>What has been your favorite race?</b></span></span><br><span style="font-family:Georgia;"><span style="color:#000000;">The Omaha Marathon--but not because I won. It was my first marathon, and now I realize why I like long distance running.</span></span><br><br><span style="font-family:Georgia;"><span style="color:#000000;"><b>Do you have a goal race right now?</b></span></span><br><span style="font-family:Georgia;"><span style="color:#000000;">The Boston Marathon.</span></span><br><br><span style="font-family:Georgia;"><span style="color:#000000;"><b>What makes you happy?</b></span></span><br><span style="font-family:Georgia;"><span style="color:#000000;">My husband and running.</span></span><br><br><span style="font-family:Georgia;"><span style="color:#000000;"><b>Tell us one interesting thing about you that you haven't said (at least not often) on this forum in the past.</b></span></span><br><span style="font-family:Georgia;"><span style="color:#000000;">I eat mass quantities of ice cream, Moutain Dew, apples, and pretzels.</span></span><br><br><span style="font-family:Georgia;"><span style="color:#000000;"><b>Tell us one interesting thing about another user of this forum that has not been posted (at least not often) on this forum in the past (make sure the other person will not object to posting the info!).</b></span></span><br><span style="font-family:Georgia;"><span style="color:#000000;">Phillip (Phill McKrevass) and I have known each other since we were 6, went to school together until we were in the 5th grade, dated our last two years of high school and our first year of college, broke up to do our own thing for 8 years, got back together in December 2005, got engaged in June 2006, got married in December 2006 (luckily, so my mom was there), and we just celebrated our one year anniversary December 30th, 2007! (We are the same age).</span></span>

All this, and you didn't even mention your ridiculous elliptical base.<br><br>
You've got a great running future ahead of you, and you have great motivation and a great husband. Sounds like the formula for success.....

I've been admiring your running in the daily threads, and now I have much much more admiration for you, Tonya.<br><br>
What an amazing, lifelong gift your mom's battle gave you with running. I hope (and it sounds like) she knows you will have that from her for as long as you run.<br><br>
Thank you so much for sharing.

Great stuff....you're education alone is plenty to be proud of, but no....you had to go out and WIN a marathon too!! And then "brag" about it to boot!! Of course, once again, I'm only kidding....<br><br>
You're ability to run is the stuff of inspiration....just please don't get hurt and remind that Phill of yours that he's lucky to have you to keep him up in his old age....
