U of Illinois and Oakland Univ played nearly 7 minutes last night ....with a women's ball. You know - the smaller, lighter one. Aren't the ref's supposed to notice something like that?

In a related note, a few years back...the South Dakota State Women played a bb game against an opponent(can't remember who it was right now) and they used a mens ball for the entire first half!

I think the tipoff might've been redeemable tickets were spitting out from the backboard after each buzzer ending play

To be completely serious, it's funny that the teams were shooting worse than normal with the smaller ball. I wonder if it debunks a bit my theory that womens' teams should practice with a men's ball and then use the women's ball in real games because you would get more room for error

Seems okay in theory, but shooting is more of a "feel" skill. You want to be really used to the ball that you are shooting. It seems to me that size of the ball would be one of the biggest things to change that feel.

That's just my theory.

this too, in addition to the weight.

Try shooting a jumpshot with a tennis ball. It's smaller so it should go in easier right? Or if you think that's too small, try a volleyball...still smaller than a basketball.

The size and weight are both very important, especially to people who have honed their skills for years on the correct instrument.
Funny thing is I've shot these all things into a basket - I seemed to have the most success with a volleyball unless it was outdoors and breezy. I even once kicked a volleyball into the basket from full court (can't ever see myself doing that again) and I've had the most fun with trying to put a football into the hoop.

But true, the size and weight matter more for folks who have honed their skills for years. I learned early on that whatever skills I do have at putting almost any ball in a basket aren't worth honing
