I noticed after my trainer ride yesterday that there was a little bit of black dust under where my back tire was. Did I tighten it too much? I'm giving it 2 turns, just like it says. Or is it too loose to where it is slipping and causing that? Should I have that or not? I didn't notice it the first time I used it, but I could have overlooked it.

Does the trainer degrade my back tire faster than riding on the road? Should I use a different one on the road and trainer? I really don't want to buy a second set of wheels.

Sometimes I get the dust. Sometimes I don't. I haven't quite found the correlation between tightness and the presence of dust yet - air pressure enters into it too.

I've got a new tire out in the garage I plan to slap on when I hit the roads again - and I'll keep the current one as my "trainer tire" and put it back on next fall.

I didn't think about tire pressure. I didn't pump up my tires before my trainer ride, so that could have been it. I'll see. I just want to make sure I'm not tearing up my tire.

I'm not using the trainer for the winter, though. I'll be using it once a week throughout training. I'm already riding outside. I'm using it to fit in an extra ride during kids' naptime or at night. I'm also using it to build strength. So, I can't just swap it out and leave it on there.

Oh, good idea! I wish I would have done that earlier this winter. I do have a bit of dust and I think I have the resistance set pretty well - I also pump up my tires before each trainer ride just so everything is consistent.

I am a little concerned as I'm going on the road for the first time this weekend in several months - I hope the tire doesn't completely fall apart on me
