I'm fairly new, I'm sure there are some long timer runners out there, lend me some advice.

How new is "fairly new"? If you've just started running for the first time, I would suggest incorporating walking before you can get to the point where you can run 1/2 hour without too much discomfort.

Once you're at that point, youv'e sort of reached a level where, if you back off the speed a little, you could do an hour without stopping.

But, I suspect you're past that point anyway.

I can run 3 miles in thirty minutes without much discomfort.

Take a little extra time on the weekend, and push yourself to 3.5 miles. The next weekend, a little further. Walk some of you need to.

Before you know it, you'll be running 5 or 6 miles in an hour.

There's a "rule" called the 10% Rule. Basically it is don't increase total weekly mileage, or daily milege by more than 10% a week to avoid injury.

Of course, its really just a guideline.
