<ul><li><span style="font-family:Verdana;"><span style="font-family:Arial;"><span style="font-size:medium;"><b>Why do you run?</b></span></span></span></li>
</ul><span style="font-family:Arial;"><span style="font-size:medium;">I guess because I can and because I always have. I’ve been an on/off running since I was in the 5th grade. My Dad took up running to loose weight and I basically followed him around the neighborhood. From there it went to 7th grade track team, to soccer training, to running for fun in college, and continued with breaks here and there.</span></span><br><span style="color:#000000;"><span style="font-family:Verdana;"><br><span style="font-family:Arial;"><span style="font-size:medium;"><b>2. What is your greatest accomplishment?</b></span></span></span></span><br><span style="color:#000000;"><span style="font-family:Verdana;"><span style="font-family:Arial;"><span style="font-size:medium;">Being the head of my household. I have a beautiful wife and two great kids!</span></span></span></span><br><span style="color:#000000;"><span style="font-family:Verdana;"><span style="font-family:Arial;"><span style="font-size:medium;"><br><b>3. What is your mott</b></span></span></span></span><span style="color:#000000;"><span style="font-family:Verdana;"><span style="font-family:Arial;"><span style="font-size:medium;"><b>o/theme song?</b></span></span></span></span><br><br><span style="color:#000000;"><span style="font-family:Verdana;"><span style="font-family:Arial;"><span style="font-size:medium;">“It’s supposed to be hard; the hard is what makes it great!” Many people refer to variations of “If it wasn’t hard everyone would be doing it” and that may be true, but the reward of your accomplishment is overcoming the hard part.</span></span></span></span> <span style="color:#000000;"><span style="font-family:Verdana;"><span style="font-family:Arial;"><span style="font-size:medium;">Therefore, it’s the hard part(s) that make it great. “Train don’t strain.” Bill Bowerman, from the book Bowerman and the Men of Oregon.</span></span></span></span><br><span style="color:#000000;"><span style="font-family:Verdana;"><span style="font-family:Arial;"><span style="font-size:medium;"><br><b>4. How do you deal with bad runs?</b></span></span></span></span><br><span style="color:#000000;"><span style="font-family:Verdana;"><span style="font-family:Arial;"><span style="font-size:medium;">I celebrate them. Maybe not at the time that they are happening or even right after they are over. But, I view them like bank deposits (training) that will be paid back with interest later in the form of good runs and/or good races.</span></span></span></span><br><span style="color:#000000;"><span style="font-family:Verdana;"><span style="font-family:Arial;"><span style="font-size:medium;"><br><b>5. Do you reward yourself for good runs? How?</b></span></span></span></span><br><span style="color:#000000;"><span style="font-family:Verdana;"><span style="font-family:Arial;"><span style="font-size:medium;">I just enjoy the sense of accomplishment of making it to a milestone, whether it’s a training time or a new race PR. Then, I focus on what’s next.</span></span></span></span><br><span style="color:#000000;"><span style="font-family:Verdana;"><span style="font-family:Arial;"><span style="font-size:medium;"><br>
6. <b>Who do you admire most?</b></span></span></span></span><br><span style="color:#000000;"><span style="font-family:Verdana;"><span style="font-family:Arial;"><span style="font-size:medium;">Probably, my former collegue, who became my boss for a period of 5 years. He taught me most of the skills that I rely on everyday to accomplish my job. The amazing thing was that he was teaching and mentoring me, without either of us acknowledging that that’s what was happening. A lot of my success I owe to him. And, the skill set that he helped me develop will help me an all areas of life. And, he’s a good friend too.</span></span></span></span><br><span style="color:#000000;"><span style="font-family:Verdana;"><span style="font-family:Arial;"><span style="font-size:medium;"><br><b>7. What is the greatest advice you have ever received?</b></span></span></span></span><br><span style="color:#000000;"><span style="font-family:Verdana;"><span style="font-family:Arial;"><span style="font-size:medium;">“Fail to plan; plan to fail.” That’s a quote from the person described in number 6. Seriously though, I think the real trick is to have a plan and execute it but be savvy enough to know when the plan needs to be modified on the fly. That goes for business, training, or running your race.</span></span></span></span><br><span style="color:#000000;"><span style="font-family:Verdana;"><span style="font-family:Arial;"><span style="font-size:medium;"><br><b>8. What do wish you had learned younger?</b></span></span></span></span><br><span style="color:#000000;"><span style="font-family:Verdana;"><span style="font-family:Arial;"><span style="font-size:medium;">More discipline. You must have that in order to fully execute your plans. Also, I wish I would have tried downhill skiing earlier. I just started a couple of seasons ago, and I love it!</span></span></span></span><br><span style="color:#000000;"><span style="font-family:Verdana;"><span style="font-family:Arial;"><span style="font-size:medium;"><br><b>9. What do you wish you could do but can't?</b></span></span></span></span><br><span style="color:#000000;"><span style="font-family:Verdana;"><span style="font-family:Arial;"><span style="font-size:medium;">Fly a plane. My Dad is/was a pilot (both in the USAF; and a charter pilot / flight instructor). I wanted to fly, but have a color deficiency. (Otherwise known as color blindness) And, no, I don’t see the world in black and white. <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.kickrunners.com/forum/images/smilies/biggrin.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="Very Happy"> But, you cannot pass the entrance physical with this condition so no flying for me. I guess I could get a restricted private pilots license.</span></span></span></span><br><span style="color:#000000;"><span style="font-family:Verdana;"><span style="font-family:Arial;"><span style="font-size:medium;"><br><b>10. How would your friends describe your personality?</b></span></span></span></span><br><span style="color:#000000;"><span style="font-family:Verdana;"><span style="font-family:Arial;"><span style="font-size:medium;">Funny, outgoing, kinda knowledgable with useless trivia. (I get teased for that all the time)</span></span></span></span><br><span style="color:#000000;"><span style="font-family:Verdana;"><span style="font-family:Arial;"><span style="font-size:medium;"><br><b>11. What do you wear running? favorite outfit?</b></span></span></span></span><br><span style="color:#000000;"><span style="font-family:Verdana;"><span style="font-family:Arial;"><span style="font-size:medium;">Outfit? Um, whatever the weather dictates. Most of my running gear is blue and/or white. I grab whatever happens to be clean. That said, I am a bit obsessed with running gear in general and am always looking for my next purchase.</span></span></span></span><br><span style="color:#000000;"><span style="font-family:Verdana;"><span style="font-family:Arial;"><span style="font-size:medium;"><br><b>12. What has been your favorite race?</b></span></span></span></span><br><span style="color:#000000;"><span style="font-family:Verdana;"><span style="font-family:Arial;"><span style="font-size:medium;">So far, I guess I’d have to say Marine Corp Marathon just a few weeks ago. (I’d like to replace that with Boston)</span></span></span></span><br><span style="color:#000000;"><span style="font-family:Verdana;"><span style="font-family:Arial;"><span style="font-size:medium;"><br><b>13. Do you have a goal race right now?</b></span></span></span></span><br><span style="color:#000000;"><span style="font-family:Verdana;"><span style="font-family:Arial;"><span style="font-size:medium;">Planning to make an BQ attempt at the end of the spring season. No commitments yet, but we may get a group of KRs together in Athens, OH to run a 3:15 BQ time.</span></span></span></span><br><span style="color:#000000;"><span style="font-family:Verdana;"><span style="font-family:Arial;"><span style="font-size:medium;"><br><b>14. Going camping. Riding my dirtbike (that’s kinda on hiatus now). Getting in an easy run.</span></span></span></span><br><span style="color:#000000;"><span style="font-family:Verdana;"><span style="font-family:Arial;"><span style="font-size:medium;"><br><b>15. I’ve been spending an hour or so in the evenings after the kids go to bed playing all the old songs that I studied as a child.</span></span></span></span><br><span style="color:#000000;"><span style="font-family:Verdana;"><span style="font-family:Arial;"><span style="font-size:medium;"><br><b>16. I saw one when we were on a run together and probably broke the Olympic high jump record in the process of getting over it, while he never broke stride or paused his story that he was telling me. He came awefully close to actually stepping on the thing. Do you really see in black, whites and grey/gray? Or do you see some variations of colors just not true colors?<br><br>
This part warmed my heart- <span style="font-family:Arial;"><span style="font-size:medium;"><i>Being the head of my household. I have a beautiful wife and two great kids!</i> <span style="font-size:small;">BUT I have one HUGE favor to ask you. Will you please let your wife read it and verify it? Cuz we all know that women rule the roost. It's a secret we usually don't tell our men because of their egos, so I just want to make sure she's still on our team. <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.kickrunners.com/forum/images/smilies/wink.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="Wink"></span></span></span><br><br>
Thank your dad for his service.

LOL...yeah, I thought about that after I posted it. Really what I meant is being the primary provider for my family. She's really the logistical leader and all that. She does an awesome job...and frankly, I don't want that job! <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.kickrunners.com/forum/images/smilies/biggrin.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="Very Happy"> (I couldn't do what she does nearly as well)

Hey, Tim, great POTD! I really liked your answer to #7. I am really seeing how true that is. And along the same lines is "Failure to plan on your part does not equal an emergency on mine". <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.kickrunners.com/forum/images/smilies/biggrin.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="Very Happy"><br><br>
It was great to get to know you a little more. Nice hat. <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.kickrunners.com/forum/images/smilies/wink.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="Wink">
