Tonight all the marbles are on the table. Should Auburn or Oregon win? Because Auburn is a Southern team I'm duty bound to support them although I have some qualms as to whether or not their QB is another Reggie Bush waiting to be found out.

As to which team is stronger, I think they are pretty close in defense and offensive strength. I'm expecting about 56 to 70 points to be scored tonight.

Should be a good game either way. I would normally go for the Ducks because of the west coast connection and the awesome name. That said, Heather May has gone all Auburn (she teaches there) and, well... since I have no stake in the game I'm just going to enjoy.

Reggie Bush had the Heisman rescinded because he was getting $$.

Cam Newton has been all the news for the past 8 weeks over a $200,000 issue at Mississippi State...where he never attended.

I hope Oregon wins and I'd like nothing more than to see them win big.

My head says that they won't be able to stop Cam Newton.

Heart: Oregon 70 Auburn 13

Reggie Bush embarrassed USC by violating a host of NCAA rules concerning money while playing at USC. At this point the NCAA has not found Cam (QB for Auburn) guilty of anything but his father did offer to sell him to the highest bidder apparently (Miss. State in particular). Cam and his father swear that Cam knew nothing about the behind the scene extortion attempt(s). I tend to find that hard to really believe. But we'll see. If Oregon wins tonight it's no big deal one way or the other if Cam cheated. If AU wins there is always the possibility the national championship would have to be forfeited if it can be proven Cam did actually participate in some of the backroom dealings for his services.

So, let's hope Cam is clean whereas Reggie was a "not-so-clean" collegiate player.
There is no forfeiting of a national championship just like there is no forfeiting the Heisman trophy. Reggie Bush won it. I saw it on TV...it happened.

48 hours from now the elation and celebration will be done and it can never be taken away from the team that wins tonight.

Since that is well known I could see Auburn proceeding to play Cam Newton even though they expect to forfeit the game later. Who cares about later? Life is all about NOW? And frankly I want to see Cam Newton play tonight. That would have truly sucked if he didn't. I don't give a flyin' fadoo if they forfeit later. Also if they outbid Mississippi State...well that was money well spent.

Kinda like Ohio State playing the Sugar Bowl with 5 players who were suspended for 5 games...games 2 through 6 in the future cuz we wouldn't want them to miss the Sugar Bowl.

My predictions:

Cam Newton will score on short runs, but no long runs for TD.

Cliff Harris will get burned for a TD, but will make up for it with a spectacular return (int, punt kickoff) for a TD.

Darron Thomas will go for close to 100 yards rushing.

LaMichael James will have more carries, but Kenjon Barner will have more yards for Oregon. Ducks will get over 300 yards on the ground.

The Ducks leading receiver will be a tight end.

Oregon 42 Auburn 38

Duckgeek will have no fingernails by the end of the game.

I know. I just like to dream sometimes that sportsmanship actually exists.

Half the marbles are on the table. I am sold now that TCU is for real after they beat Wisconsin.

Prediction:

Oregon 2, Auburn 0 in OT.

Oregon and TCU co-national champs.

I have no clue who will win, but I'm gonna guess that it's gonna be lower-scoring than most people predict. (Well, not as low as Hazelrah predicts). Maybe 50 total points, which still isn't exactly a defensive struggle.

While I think it would be nice if the SEC wins for the 5th straight year, I have no particular love for Auburn after they spent half the year trying to blame our (former) coach for trying to sabotage their season.

I've been to both towns, and I think Eugene is more fun than Auburn. So go Ducks, I guess...

Well, based on recent results, the safe bet would be to go with the SEC team.

They DO play a tougher schedule, and they have more experience in tight games than the Ducks.

However, Oregon has been remarkable. Do you remember what they did to Stanford? The team that everyone is projecting as #1 next year?

I could see 60-some points being scored. both teams in the 30's.

Usually, I'd pick with the SEC and the Heisman winner, and go Auburn.

But, San Diego Charger legend Dan Fouts was a Duck!

Go Oregon!

Those folks with Auburn by 3 1/2 are probably jumping from tall buildings after they took the TD off the board and made them kick the FG.

We had to know when those two incredible defenses hit the field that there wouldn't be much scoring.

That was a very good game. Late, when it was tied up, I checked stats and both teams had 467 yards of offense. Can't get much closer than that.

That run by Dyer was exactly like Maurice Morris' run against Colorado when we beat them in the Fiesta Bowl. Play to the whistle, boys. 99 for our team was standing right there as he got back on his feet just watching him.

Dyer and Maehl both had great offensive games, as did Cliff Harris and Nick Fairley on defense.

I thought it was a pretty good game. The teams appeared evenly matched.
