Well...I bought the TI swimming book for Triathletes and rented the "TI - Freestyle Made Easy" DVD.

This morning in the pool was my second day of drills. I have to say...I'm already feeling much more comfortable in the water. I feel more "supported" by the water as opposed to "fighting to stay at the top".

Tomorrow morning will be Day 3...we'll see.

Prior to this I couldn't do more than 2 lengths freestyle before I had to flip over onto my back to catch my breath.

I'm about 4 months T1. I've had periods of real progress followed by periods of total frustration. It works, supposedly. I'll let you know for sure after my Oly in April. I broke down and got a swim coach, too. Wasn't getting anywhere on my own.
I have the tape also--just need to find time to watch the thing--but I am glad to hear that there are others out there that struggle with the swimming. I did my first tri--completely doing the breast stroke (and I was very last)..so I vowed to learn to swim.....to date..I can only swim 25M on freestyle...but after I completed my workout today I had time to kill so I made myself swim probably 400M of freestyle--even if I had to stop in the middle of the pool--but I refused to do the breast stoke--it felt good--felt like I was making some progress......thanks for letting me not think I was the only one

You guys will do fine. In 2004 I could not swim...at all.

Once you embrace freestyle you’ll see, there is no other stroke. Oh wait, there is your “backup stroke”, and you do need to coddle that a bit, so you can still depend on it in a pinch.

Total immersion is all about perfection. But let’s face it, you will race before you are perfect.

I think #1 is breathing. Who’s not in favor of being able to breathe. Both sides. Either side. One side twice, then the other side once. ANY side.

Real improvement comes slowly. Be patient, or live at the pool.

This morning was Day 3 with the TI method.

Today focused on arm recovery....i think they call them "zipper" drills. I'm definitely feeling much more comfortable in my stroke. I was definitely swimming with my "arms" rather than with my "core". I can feel a big difference.

I'm still not anywhere near swimming an entire mile freestyle...but I can already tell a big difference...I don't dread my swim days anymore.

Not sure that it would be worth a $500 workshop...but it's definitely worth the $50 I spent on the book and DVDs.
