For probably the first time in forever I actually am thinking about posting in the daily thread, and I can't find one. Do I have to do everything myself .....

Last night I got in a very slow two miles on the treadmill. Now I realize that shouldn't even count as a warm-up, but those are the first two miles I've run since last April.

I'd been targeting a half-marathon last Spring, and had been fighting some ITB issues during most of my training. Finally, one week before the race, it turned into piriformis problems. The doctor said I could probably finish the race but that going for time was out of the question. Well, I already knew I could go the distance, so I figured why bother and didn't even start.

At the same time, running had become something of a chore - trying to schedule it in around my job and my family. It's taken this long to get the feeling down enough so that I'm somewhat willing to make the effort again. Of course one night doesn't mean I've re-established the habit ....

I've been around - mostly in the PRT, but sometimes checking in here. You probably won't see me in the dailies much because that's just not my thing, but I'll try to show I'm still living from time to time.

BTW - Econo, best wishes to you and Ben. That's one of the few events in here in the last year that I did catch, even if I didn't reply at the time.

Hey KS!

Nice hearing from Econo yesterday. Progress is good.

8 miles this morning on the TM, with 6 x 0.5 mile intervals at 7:30. Feeling good. The roads are a mess and very narrow right now. I hope conditions improve by Sat. I have a major LR planned.

Thanks for the start rlemert. It's nice to see you in the daily, even if it's not your thing. . . but you could start a new thing you know

I had a good run yesterday afternoon. It was sunny and mild - probably low 50's? - so I left work at 3:30 and headed over to the bike path about 1/2 mi from my office. The plan was around 6-7 miles, including 6x4min intervals. I thought I was supposed to do 3 min recoveries inbetween and that's what I did. Then I see this morning that I was really only supposed to do 2 min recoveries. oops.

I did a couple miles of warming up at 8.59 and 9.11. Then I started the intervals. I did each one around 7.30-7.35. and then ran another 3 miles as a cool down. I ended up with a total of 9.5 miles in 1:23:46. If I would've gone another 1/2 mile I would have beat my 10 mile race PR, which I believe is right around 1:28.

looks like another nice sunny day here, so the plan is an easy slow run at lunchtime.

erika - don't you leave for Dallas soon? I was seeing this morning that they around 8 degrees or something insane like that. I chuckled when I realized that if those temps stay like that, you'd be leaving your mild Fairbanks weather and heading to Texas where it's colder. That's just wrong!

Oh, I've heard that pole dancing (and strip dancing) are quite intense forms of exercise. Lots of ab work. Should be a great workout, enjoy!

Rest day today. Spent lots of time with the foam roller. Turns out my piriformis is the culprit behind my quad and hamstring pain... makes sense, since it bridges the gap between those two muscle groups, right? <sigh> So no more speedwork for me, and my plans for a long run are in the crapper for the weekend. Good thing I'm still young, eh?

Hi rlemert, nice to see you here. Hope my grumpiness doesn't scare you away.

5.7 miles in the slush after work. Nothin' special, just slow. Very slippery on many of the sidewalks, and too dangerous on much of the road.

Made it to the Y this evening, although the neighborhood roads are terrible. One of us needed to take DD to work, so I volunteered. DW had already made it out to the grocery store but was chilled and is still wrapped up in a blanket. Our old Saturn that DD drives is pretty low to the ground and would probably get stuck in a drift or those piles where a plow has actually been.

Anyway, I was on a treadmill when a staff member came over and put a sign on it saying it was reserved for a class that was getting ready to start. I had already warmed up and done one Yasso 800, so after the recovery I had 2.5 miles and got off the machine. Tommy my friend from Brooks ID was there with his running class so I asked what to do. He told me to sign up for the #8 spot or Alternate #1 in the Trekking class which only needs 7 treadmills. I did, and sure enough, when the teacher came, she asked if I was there for the class. "I'm just signed up for Alternate #1," I said with kind of a wink but she didn't get it so she introduced herself and so did I like I really wanted to do the class. As it turned out, they were doing intervals, too, but like very slight pickups and then back to jogging. So I just cranked up the iPod and avoided eye contact with her for virtually the whole time. I felt rude so even when all my intervals were over I just kept going and so did the class. It's like I was playing chicken so I finally swerved. I stopped after 8 miles and they were still going. The intervals were 3 x 0.5 mi. @7:44 and 4 x 0.25 mi. @7:35 for the first three and 7:30 on the last one. It was a great workout but I did have fresh legs! Thanks for listening to my long twisted tale.

Just like Mike, I was feeling good today too so I ran a hard progression run staying right at my upper limit as I went from 8:49 pace down to 7:13 pace at 3% incline. Ended up with 7.84 miles and an elevation gain of 1,245 ft. Legs are feeling so good it's scary. They have tightened up a little this evening so I will make sure tomorrow is an easy pace.
