I just finished up 5 miles outside. Nice and crispy out. Hope it wasn't a bad idea, as I woke up with razor blades in my throat. Don't want to make things worse than they might be.

Greetings, all.

I ended up with 2M on the TM last night. Had hoped for 3, but alas... 0-1 was fine. 1-1.5 was a little challenging, and 1.5-2.0 was far harder than it should have been. My sinuses went all wacky at that point, so I threw in the towel, figuring 2.0 > 0.0 at least. I'll give it another try tonight and see if 3 is possible.

The vertigo is mostly under control this morning. We'll see if that remains the case after driving into work in the CRV today.

Hope everyone has a FAB day today!

Good morning ladies. Will duck out at lunch to the gym for my TM run later. Last weekend of DS#1's shows, which means I will not be up to 11:30 Th-Sat after this weekend. The show is fun, the theater is beautiful, but the schedule has been a bear. That is waaaaaay past my bedtime.

We have snow forecast for tonight and Saturday. Usually I am giddy like a child for the first snow of the year, but after last year, and considering that it is still October, this has me pissed off. Throw in a hard freeze, which means that the end of foliage season is upon us, following a pretty lousy fall color wise, and I am grumpy with Mother Nature. Not that it matters....

morning

Scavenger Hunt last night was a BLAST. Not suprisingly, it got ultra competitive out there but all in good fun. I do think some of the other people partaking in the trail system were a bit confused by a bunch of adults running through the woods in costumes trying to figure out riddles. Not all teams got all of questions/riddles/items but overall, everyone had a blast. Best costume went to a guy in a dress with a bib on the front, he was a "drag racer". *snort* We also had a spot on (except for hair color) wonder woman. She got extra points because she did in legit, (undies and all) and it was a little chilly last night. She even went to the bar in that outfit after. Dang girl...that's ballsy.

I did a loop to set a couple of things up and then ran to the campground to dispense alcoholic whipped cream with another person...then to the Prairie hill to get coach and then back cleaning up things we set up, so I got in about 5. Pups was with the entire time. I didn't even get the best part of our costumes (she was white rabbit and I was Alice). I had her on the running leash so the entire time I was CHASING her. Awesome and unintended!

Got home a wee late (after 10!) so I didn't get up to run this morning. I will do that at lunch

Morning, kids. Had to hustle out of the house this morning since the cleaners are coming early. I feel guilty enough having cleaners, I don't need to be there to watch them clean. Thankfully the tidying this weekend meant that I didn't have to do too much this morning.

I got a bolster in the mail yesterday and slept with it. It worked pretty well. I don't know how much I normally toss and turn during the night, but every time I turned last night (maybe 3-4 times), I briefly woke and had to adjust the bolster. Still, I fell right back asleep, so I don't consider that interrupted sleep. I did spend quite a lot of the night on my back, which is good.

Last night at string ensemble practice, we picked the songs we're going to play for a nursing home at the end of November. Everyone got to pick a number from a quartet book, and I picked a death march because it's super awesome, even if it is a bit depressing. The rest of the group pointed out that we're playing at a nursing home so a death march is probably not the best choice, but I countered with the fact that we're playing Phantom of the Opera, so we could play them back to back and have a spooky section of the performance.

Hugs and kisses to all!

I often just leave the thread open on my home computer all day long, even when I'm not at home. So it probably says that I'm looking at the thread all the time. Just cuz you see me there doesn't mean I'm actually around.

Cold rain today. I dunno if I'll brave the elements or hit the TM at the gym. We'll see how I feel after work. Like Litch, we may get some snow on Saturday, although it should be warm enough that it won't stick. Still, come on, it's October!

Glad you're both feeling better Prae and Ailarie!

Looking forward to a quiet weekend with the fam. Not too much running around, finishing up little things in the kitchen, maybe a movie with the kids. Just what the Dr ordered.

Prae, what's a bolster? Like a body pillow?

Snow -- no thanks. Not yet. I like it to snow at Christmas and then immediately get warm again. In Theia World, fall is OK, winter sucks, spring and summer rule. I will be driving 6 hours in the rain/snow/slush mix on Saturday. Doesn't THAT sound like fun?

I got up early to meet my training partner for a swim. First time I've seen her in at least 6-7 weeks! We got to the Y, only to be informed the good pool was closed due to a power failure (no lights), but the older pool was available. The problem with the older pool is that it's where they do kids' and seniors' programming, and it's kept at 88 degrees!! We did a short, pretty easy swim because of the temperature, and I have been light-headed and loopy ever since I got out of the water.

Sore from yesterday's class, but it's not as bad as I thought it would be.

we found out the hard and very stressful way that AK is allergic to peanuts yesterday. ugh. we have an allergist appt later this afternoon and she will likely have to carry an epi-pen around for the rest of her life.. i'm trying to be optimistic and its certainly not the end of the world but still. ugh. ugh. ugh.

It definitely is if you are in a training cycle! We generally alternate the weight DVDs with running, so we don't do the cardio dvds. It makes it much more manageable. But I'm leaning toward more weight training this winter for a couple of different reasons. So we'll see.

I feel like my training/racing days are long behind me. At this point I'm looking for fitness that I can sustain through my 40s. I felt like my body came to a complete halt after my 40th birthday (so I am feeling your pain boB!) and I'd like to find some semblance of success again.

Dude. I am so there with you. I don't even care about success as much as not continuing to turn into a fatty fatass! I am so disgusted with myself right now and have been for months. Metabolism shmetabolism. It all sucks.

(((AK and Missy))) I remember a friend in HS telling me he could not eat even plain M&M's because they had a trace amount of peanuts in them. I was surprised, I never knew that before he told me. I hope that the day care, schools, and family/friends/AK's playmates' parents are good about helping maintain vigilance.

OK, so yesterday was the suck. It's not even that anything specifically bad happened, it was just a crazy day and took me hours to decompress last night. Today is going better, thank goodness, though I'm a tad behind on things that I need to do.

My heel is still bothering me. I don't have a golf ball, but I have a hard ball that sorta looks like a tennis ball but is a bit smaller. I rolled my heel on that last night and it seemed to help some. I'm thinking however that it may not be smart to go for a run w/ Moonie this weekend after all. We will get plenty of other activity including some walking and biking at least.

1 - the tricky thing about a peanut allergy is that it is in a LOT of things. even trace amounts.

2- that is what is the more stressful part, me thinks. i mean, i can read labels and be super vigilant but when shes beyond my care and in the hands of others and can't verbalize to remind people that shes allergic... ugh.

It's going to be OK. Trust me. DS has a severe peanut allergy too...to go along with Dairy/Milk, wheat, and egg. And yes, we have been to the ER at childrens with anaphalaxis and yes P carries and epi-pen everywhere he goes. But, he's 8 years old and we've NEVER had to use it. The very few times that he's been symptomatic, a benedryl has done the trick. We've had to train baby sitters, parents, care givers, sunday school workers, and so on, but it all works out. P is very aware and so is his big sister, so he's been steered clear. We've even been at football games and baseball games near people eating peanuts and managed to keep him from being exposed.

Food allergies are very very common now, and the level of awareness at schools and restaraunts has changed drastically in the last 5 years. PTom went through the same thing with one of his kids and we kinda shared notes on this via email. DW got networked with some moms of older food allergy kids and learned the tricks of the trade.

You should look at the FAAN and join. http://www.foodallergy.org/

Trace Atkins (country star) was on Celebrity Apprentice and he was playing for the FAAN. One of his kids has food allergies and he's done a lot to raise awareness on the Celebrity level.

Theia - yuck 88 degrees...that's like swimming in bath water, or a hot tub. :)

I ran last night 9 miles with 5 or so at 7:30 pace, and it was pretty easy, feeling good for marathon in 1.5 weeks. We had the BTC pot luck and halloween costum party at the weekly run last night.

Missy - the good news is that schools and day care centers these days tend to be super vigilant about this - nut allergies are extremely common. And the older kids I know that have it (thinkg 3rd-5th grade) grew up knowing the restrictions, so they are super vigilant about it themselves.

Morning all! Working from home today to try and knock out some requirements as well as do a few things around the apt. I'm hosting book club tomorrow and don't want any to have to see a dirty bath tub should they peek behind the shower curtain ... the horror!

Mindi - yay for kickball, sounds like a great night

(((((Missy and AK))))) along with all of Tim's great advice and info, hit up Mrs. P-Tom (I can give you her email address)

Kath - now you've got my mind spinning... what could it be and why could I possibly guess it?!!?!?! I will spend copious amounts of time today processing these thoughts

KP - hope getting the new splint is a non-issue
