1 - the tricky thing about a peanut allergy is that it is in a LOT of things. even trace amounts.

2- that is what is the more stressful part, me thinks. i mean, i can read labels and be super vigilant but when shes beyond my care and in the hands of others and can't verbalize to remind people that shes allergic... ugh.

off to read more.

It's going to be OK. Trust me. DS has a severe peanut allergy too...to go along with Dairy/Milk, wheat, and egg. And yes, we have been to the ER at childrens with anaphalaxis and yes P carries and epi-pen everywhere he goes. But, he's 8 years old and we've NEVER had to use it. The very few times that he's been symptomatic, a benedryl has done the trick. We've had to train baby sitters, parents, care givers, sunday school workers, and so on, but it all works out. P is very aware and so is his big sister, so he's been steered clear. We've even been at football games and baseball games near people eating peanuts and managed to keep him from being exposed.

Food allergies are very very common now, and the level of awareness at schools and restaraunts has changed drastically in the last 5 years. PTom went through the same thing with one of his kids and we kinda shared notes on this via email. DW got networked with some moms of older food allergy kids and learned the tricks of the trade.

You should look at the FAAN and join. http://www.foodallergy.org/

Trace Atkins (country star) was on Celebrity Apprentice and he was playing for the FAAN. One of his kids has food allergies and he's done a lot to raise awareness on the Celebrity level.

Theia - yuck 88 degrees...that's like swimming in bath water, or a hot tub.

I ran last night 9 miles with 5 or so at 7:30 pace, and it was pretty easy, feeling good for marathon in 1.5 weeks. We had the BTC pot luck and halloween costum party at the weekly run last night.
