morning folks. Slept like a baby last night for once.

I got an interesting proposition yesterday. You know when you ask a smart ass question expecting a smartass answer back and then you get a serious answer back and you don't know what to say? Yeah...

So I was at our local book store having Sue order me a book that came out yesterday. I've known Sue since I was a kid, she was my aunts best friend and was her biggest non family supporter in the time when my aunt was dying from pancreatic cancer. My brother and her youngest son are best buddies and Sue and her husband are all around fantastic people. ( her other 2 kids are kind of douchey) Anyway. When I was in the store yesterday it was all nice and warm and toasty and filled with biblio-goodness and being a smart ass I asked her when she and her husband were going to retire because I want the store and all of the warmth and books that go with it. Well Sue comes back with... "we were just talking about that actually. Make me an offer." Then of course she says " I'm serious" So I stand there with my mouth hanging open not knowing what to say but mentally ticking off numbers in my head. It's something I've wanted so bad for so long and I totally wasn't expecting to get 'make me an offer" as an answer. who knows maybe there will be an owner between the time she wants out and the time I get to buy it but I'm pretty sure that one day it will all be mine.

como estas chicas bonitas y chicos guapos? (that's pretty much all i know...oh...and how to ask for kisses and coffee and bread).

Wippi!!! That's really cool! I'll be the first to admit I'm a little jealous, too. I would LOVE to have a book store OR some little retail-y thing....like a cinnamon roll truck. My parents owned a small jewelry store for most of my young life (my dad did custom pieces for commission and high end watch repair, but they sold other stuff). I have such good memories of holidays and sitting in a little nook of the store drinking apple cider and listening to music and "helping". It taught me so many good things about work ethic, self sufficiency, etc. Can I do a poetry reading at your new store? hahahahaha...

Did not run yet. A little sore from yesterday's fasty running. Slept in late. Someone please talk to my cats about appropriate sleep hours. I think they need a job and then they wouldn't feel the need to marf around at night.

Check in later!

Greetings all.

Wippy - Heh.. that's pretty cool. Really gives ya something to think about, eh?

I'm feeling a bit more human today. Still not great, but there is a marked improvement compared to yesterday where I alternated between 1 hour shifts of doing work stuff & 3 hour naps. Hopefully I'll be back to normal by Fri or Sat. I'd like to go for a small run, but even thought of it is tiring right now. zzzzzzzzzzzz

Have a great day, folks!

No running yet for me either. I am kind of cranky too b/c I STILL have a head cold and an unsettled tummy. Bleh. I finally wrote up my race report from Grand Rapids. It is a little depressing b/c the only real "upsides" were: (1) good training; (2) weight loss; (3) great meetup. But you all have heard all about those 3, so all that is left is how much my race actually sucked. Boo. But check it out if you want. http://runninlaw.blogspot.com/2011/10/grand-rapids-marathon-2011-race-report.html

KP, Ailarie and Kath - did you see that photos are posted on Flickr. Haven't had time to go through them to check for any of you, but you may want to check them out. There are some really great photos. http://www.flickr.com/groups/grmarathon2011/pool/

Craney - it is crazy windy here! But it is supposed to calm down - just in time for hopefully great racing weather this weekend! Woot!

Morning, kids. I feel about a million times better today. I was even singing to myself a little bit while I was making my morning fruit juice. While I know this isn't the whole story, I discovered when I brushed my teeth before bed last night that I had forgotten to take my AD yesterday morning. I also slept soundly (no dreams) through the entire night last night too, which is probably most likely why today seems so much better.

RIL, I was really skeptical about the whole chiro thing before I started, but I think I'm pretty much converted. You would think all the poppy stuff he does to me would really hurt, but he only did one adjustment in the four weeks I've been going that really hurt, and it hurt for less than 20 seconds. It's more jolting than painful. I mean, when he pulled my leg yesterday (my right leg was about 1/2" shorter than my left), it shocked the crap out of me because I wasn't expecting it, and it made a noise, but it didn't hurt and now my leg is only 1/4" shorter.

Just got a call about the probable Ghaddafi news to see if I'm available for local interviews today. It's amazing to me that all kinds of breaking news occur on my teaching days when I look reasonably presentable.

Ok, I'd better get some work done.

Took the day off yesterday - I have so many vacation days left this year, that if I need to work from home, I am just saying "screw it" and taking the day off. Hung some new closet doors, got new tires and brakes for the Subaru, spent some time trying to figure out who I need to pester about busted traffic lights in town, did some baking, and had a ZBA meeting. Pretty productive, although I never got in a run. I did get in a sleasy 4.5 this morning.

(((((((((((((((((((((((Brandy and your Mom))))))))))))))))))))))))))))

And completely changing gears here, you look incredible in your marathon pics.

KP - glad to hear the surgery went as expected. Hope things are still OK as the nerve block wears off.

Theia - hope today is better then yesterday.

Belated happy birthday to the other Tim

Ron - that is a pretty cool story about Archie Griffin.
Just got back from GOTR tonight. We ran intervals and it was AwEsoMe! We also practiced our finish line celebrations. So cool. Wish you were all local so you could join me Monday night. It is pretty awesome stuff. Oh, and I will share a very cool tidbit from tonight. We were talking about the media/photoshop/etc. and the importance of taking it with a grain of salt and understanding that 99.9% of the images we are inundated with are not real. Yeah, we all want to look great, but it is most important to take care of ourselves, be healthy and have a healthy view of the world. Then, one of the girls' tasks between intervals was to write a word on their paper - any word that represented something strong or healthy for girls and women. One of my girls showed me her first word - it was "Mindi Gi_tos." Good stuff. My heart almost exploded with goodness.

No cervezas?

Funny Spanish story. I used to play in a sofball league in Newark. I was the only one on the infield that was not Hispanic. We had a Puerto Rican first baseman, Mexican second baseman, Dominican shortstop, I played 3rd, a Cuban pitcher and a Dominican catcher. In one game, where things were pretty heated, we had a conference on the mound, and all of these guys are talking Spanish at a million words a minute, I speak up and ask for a little help. Our 2nd baseman (who weighed probably 275 and chain smoked, but could hit the ball a mile and a half) puts his arm around me and says "Tim, as long as you don't hear ******, blanco, or Americano, we are not talking to you."

wippy - that is so freaking cool. That would be a dream of mine too :) I would SO have an office dog....just saying. Megs would be in 7th heaven saying hi to people all day :)

I ran 3 miles last night. I went slowish due to the dog but it felt GOOD. I really had to pull myself back and not go to the gym afterwards.

Running some more miles after work today.

Mindi - your story about the girls last night was awesome. I got an email from a woman in my running club on Tuesday congratulating me on my race and weight loss and basically saying I was an inspiration and would I kind of mentor her for her next race. :) ahhh shucks :)

Melis - your cats and my cats should just have a play date at 2 a.m. and leave us alone. now that it is getting a bit cooler, the cats are also ultra cuddly and won't leave me alone..

Prae, you're a star!

Brandy, those pics are awesome! You're so buff!

Wippy, I've always dreamed of owning my own book store. I used to work at one years ago and it was my favorite job ever. *sigh*

Mom and I went to a fundraiser last night for the local dragonboat team, the Cape Breastoners (from Cape Breton...get it? hee hee!). They're all breast cancer survivors. It was a lot of fun. But when I got home, the girlies were already in bed. I didn't get to see them much yesterday.

QOD: Ailarie's pics the other day made me think of this (the one of her treadmill). How many pairs of running shoes do you keep in rotation at any given time? I only have one. I have a back up pair, which is actually the pair I was using before I got the new ones. But I don't tend to use them once the new ones come into play. Now I want another new pair for NYC. And I want them to be the bright green/black/white/silver Progrid Ride 4s. The only Progrid Ride 4s I can find are the pink/silver/white ones. But I don't want that color. I know, it's stupid. It's superstitious, in a way. But for some reason, I think I'll be faster with the other color.

And a Fun QOD: Do you have a funny place name near you? We have Balls Creek. My dad would always say, "Balls Creek...but not if you oil them." when we'd drive by. Sure, it's not as funny as Dildo, Newfoundland, but it's still kinda silly.

Good Morning

Brandy - I'm so sorry about your mom's prognosis.

Fvck cancer is right. I just heard that my co-worker (who is battling a bout of lung cancer (spread from breast) at age 34) has to have brain radiation b/c her Dr found 3 brain mets. WTH.

Mindi - loved your story from last night. I would love to have you as a role model for my DD.

Prae - I love that you are the go-to girl for international incidents. It's very cool. You, that is. Not the incidents.

Like having Litch back around these days!

Kath - she snores like a freight train. I love it. But it's also why she will NEVER be allowed to sleep in my bedroom. I can hear her from upstairs already.

Wippy's bookstore...I like it!

Brandy - here's hoping things go as well as they can for your mom during her treatment. And a big fuck cancer.

Nerve block is done. Percocet is on board. Star Wars marathon starts today when Tonya goes to work.

Shoe QOD: usually have at least two pairs in rotation. Already have a pair ready for January: a lovely orange pair of Nike Pegasus 28s that are pretty much the color of the box.

QOD we have friends here in town that live on Dick St

2) Indeed!

KP - enjoy the Star Wars vacation!

Shoe QOD: Usually about 3. I have my older trainers with lots of miles that I am not quite ready to retire, a newer pair, and then a pair of light-weight racers.

Brandy - are you going to buy your photos? I usually don't any more, but with as many great ones as you have, I think you should!

Speaking of pics, I really hope my GR ones don't totally suck. I am feeling pretty bummed about my race today and I don't need any salt on my wounds. I have tried really hard to shake it off and be positive, but today it has caught up with me some. It doesn't help that I feel like crapola. Boo. Pity party will be short here though - don't worry. ;)

Tonight I get to make a bunch of race signs with my co-coach/friend/neighbor. That will definitely put me in a good mood. James loved the race signs too and wanted me to take the one I have (we each kept a sign from the race) to his big game on Saturday. If his team wins, they will be league champs. I got a few more pieces of poster board yesterday and we are going to do some fun ones for his team too.

Shoe QOD: only one, officially, but I rotate my old ones in to walkers and they can serve as backups. If I ever get a model I'm sure I love, I'll start stocking up!

Mindi - you need to start a gotr scrapbook with all of these goodies. That would be the best thing to flip through right before a race for extra mojo!

Wippy - Any chance you could job shadow a bit at the bookstore? It sounds like a great opportunity!

PT changed my home exercises to focus more on the hip and they are pretty tough! Must mean its good for me, right? My mom made appointments for a bamboo massage for us tonight. I don't know what that will be like, but I hope it's relaxing. It sounds like it has the potential to resemble a beating...

I did speak to my mom last night and she was discharged yesterday afternoon. They ended up having to give her 4 units of whole blood. Eek. She is feeling better but still tired. She has blood work on Friday and then another round of chemo starting on Monday. I really hope that this blood issue isn't a problem with the marrow :( It also sucks that I can't donate to her being she is O + and I am O -.

QOD: Normally just one because I change my model a lot and don't want to be stuck with a shoe I can't wear

Fun QOD: hmmmm....on the way up north there is a sign for Middle Spunk Creek. DH always giggles

Brandy- I am surprised that you cannot donate to her. I thought that O- was the universal donor and could donate to any other blood type. If I were closer, I'd donate for you since I am O+.

Shoe QOD- I usually only have one pair at a time. Like Amichel, I retire older pairs into walking shoes, but have used them in a pinch for short runs only.

Fun QOD- I'll have to think about that one. There's a Waldo, Ohio not too far away that always makes me think of the "Where's Waldo?" books.

Good morning all! Had a fun evening spent w/co-workers, unfortunately it was to say goodbye to another that has left us, seems like an endless stream as of late But some good news, dad went in for a check up and to get some extra IV fluids and his numbers continue to travel in the right direction and last night he's felt the BEST he's felt in a very long time. He's also been going to acupuncture and LOVES LOVES LOVES it. I'm very happy to hear his spirits remain up and positive.

OMG Wippy, a book store would be soooo awesome!! Can I come work there and bake tasty goodies for the cafe?

Brandy – fantastic marathon pics, all of your hard work has totally paid off!!!

KP – how’s the ankle feeling today?

Tonya – how’s your recovery going, any changes in pain mgmt and the level you can exert yourself?

Shoe QOD – I have at least 2 in rotation at any point, sometimes 3

Hi all - strength workout yesterday: after a short warmup, got in 4 sets worth of 5 pull-ups/10 push-ups/15 lunges/20 situps with no rest between exercises. Going to go for a run today - probably something shorter and faster than has been the norm of late.

Wippy - that would be awesome! Match it up with a small cafe, and I think that would be perfect.

Have fun with that Star Wars marathon, KP!

Mindi - that would make me burst with goodness too; great stuff you do with GOTR

QOD Shoes - typically I have three pairs. Right now, I'm transitioning to lighter and/or flatter shoes, so I have one major mileage pair (my NB 890s). I also have two place holders of sorts - my T5 flats and a second pair of Wave Precision 8s don't have much mileage on them, but are both 4+ years old and thus due for replacing. I do have some NB Minimus Trail Runners that are waiting to get into the rotation, but I haven't gotten out for trail runs yet since I got 'em

I feel somewhat badly for the three pairs of shoes that took me through my marathon streak; they're probably still good for at least 100+ miles each, but they just feel completely clunky to wear now.

QOD Funny Place Names - Nothing really stands out, though I always like passing by Bufflehead Street on my runs (I guess bufflehead is a kind of duck). I also like passing by Spikerush because I think that would be a great name for a hard rock band.

Not really close to me, but I always do snicker whenever I see the exit signs for Weed, CA
