Catchy title, no? Okay, so I am feeling a bit unoriginal today.

Fitness: Loading up on coffee and getting ready to run long. It is 53 degrees right now! Woot!

Fun: Today is my Friday!

Rant: Why is it that my darn blue tooth mouse likes to tell me (every 30 seconds) that my battery is low for a month before it actually dies? Annoying.

Morning Mindi! And everyone else...

I'm trying to get back into some semblance of a routine right now; after my move it was solid guests/traveling until this past Monday. I've been so happy just to sleep in my own bed!

Fitness: Trekking around campus again today; found my parking lot yesterday, and I have to go up a BIG, LONG hill to get to most places. I am going to be getting a hill workout every day just walking around! AND, I got my pass to the fitness center so that I can take any of the workout group classes. Wow, that fitness center is NICE.

Fun: I received an email from the assistant to the director of the program yesterday, saying that one of my professors submitted my name for a graduate assistantship for this fall! I spoke to her (the professor that submitted my name) at orientation, so I guess I must have made some sort of impression on her. I'm going in this morning to talk to them about it...keep your fingers crossed! As long as it's not going to interfere with my job at the archives library, and that it's not some crazy huge number of hours a week, then I'm hopeful I'll get it.

Have a great day, peeps! I need to catch up on everything I missed over the past couple weeks...

Greetings, all

Ann - Grats on the assistantship program thingie. Hope that works out beautifully for you!

I was a bad girl and didn't run yesterday. However, that may have been a blessing in disguise, as my achilles / calves feel MUCH better than they have in a while. I'll probably go for a 3-5 miler this evening and see what happens.

Out of curiosity... does anyone have experience in wearing nubby-shoes like this?

My massage therapist has a pair (well, actually she has a pair from japan or china that apparently is the real deal, but also has a pair from addidas). She is training for her 2nd Susan Komen 3-day walk, and said that she uses the slip on shoes as a recovery tool. Something about pressure points on the feet. With my tight calves and achilles, she suggested that I give these a try. I was curious if anyone else had experience with these types of shoes. I tried them on last night, and let me tell you - they're gonna take some getting used to. Ouch. It reminds me of how the bottom of my feet felt when I first started in martial arts.

Ailarie, for massaging the bottom of the foot - Hey, if it feels good, it's good. But for walking around for any length of time, it won't do your Achilles/plantar fascia any favors.

This explains why: Mobility Workout of the Day

Ailarie - I cannot even walk on those things. The little knobby things are too rigid and it hurts. You need the Strausburg sock. Wear it at night and it'll do you wonders. Also, do some at home PT by taking your bare foot, sit on a chair or couch and use your toes to pick up a sock or something similar. Grasp it and lift your whole leg a few inches off the ground. Do this about 3x a day - 20 x each time. It'll help..honest

Ann - woot on the new jobby thing!

Mindi good luck on the LR

Me - too fast run last night with 9 in 123. I was in a bind for time and just hammered when I shouldn't have. I did not feel well either. Boo - got up a bit later than I wanted and got 2.5 in with the dog. She was not happy when she realized we weren't just going her 0.6 loop :(

Leaving for Winona this evening. We start at 10 a.m. and I braving the first leg sans shirt. EEK

Morning all. Today's fun and excitement is creating the itemized list of things we lost in the power outage over the weekend to make an insurance claim. Yes, the bar for fun is that low, folks!

So, yesterday I went to lunch with my mom, my aunt, one of their cousins, and one of their aunts. Found out for the first time that my great-grandmother was a raging drunk. She had quit drinking by the time I was born, so I never knew. Apparently it was so bad, that years later she had a brain scan and the doctor that read the scan came out and asked her kids if she was still drinking. That side of the family is so weird, all they do is gossip, but the cover up stuff like that.

Wow, I'm glad my fun is better than Amichel's! This week is Staff Appreciation Week at the university. Our college is having an ice cream social, featuring Graeter's. It's good stuff and not at all healthy (I'm thinking Black Raspberry Chip or Buckeye Blitz). Our office is shutting down for the last 1.5 hrs of the day for this. The change in routine is nice, even though we'd all far prefer being shown the appreciation with a little uptick in our salaries.

I also packed my workout clothes so I can do something to offset the ice cream at least a little. I'd love to just do a run/walk around this part of campus (my old weekday run stomping grounds when training for HMs) but we have so much construction going on, it's a bit of a pain. I might just change here and then run at the park with the 1.1 mile loop around the lake.

Brandy, why aren't you wearing a shirt? Maybe that will distract the other runners and be a big bonus for your team. Good luck!

Amy, I always think it's kinda fun to find out hidden secrets about the family. When my mom, dad and I went to Greece in 2004, we met relatives of my grandmother who gave us the scoop on her real age (5 years older than we thought), and on the circumstances around my grandfather's death. My dad was only a wee kid when he died and no one really talked about it. It was quite illuminating.

Ann, good luck with the assistantship! If it pays for tuition and that isn't currently paid, it may be worth it.

I got a lot off my to-do list yesterday. I hope to cross of the rest this morning before I rehaul my CV, teaching and research statements. I also need to start writing tailored cover letters. I hope to be able to send out all of my job applications by Sept. 15.

Have a good one, everyone!

Good luck Ann! That is very cool.

Ailarie - glad the achilles/calf is feeling better. DH has some shoes like that. They are comfy.

Nice run, Brandy, even if a little too fast.

My long run was awesome! Yay! I started getting heart rate creep during the last five miles as the temps rose, but I was able to keep my average pace under a 9 m/m, which makes me happy. AND (drum roll please) this run took me to 75 miles in the last 6 days! (10 w/10K; 18; 5; 15; 7; 20). Intense.

I have definitely earned my rest day tomorrow.

morning peeps.

my boss is out today and let me tell you, my coworkers and I are breathing a little easier, quite clearly. I like my boss, but honestly, she stresses us all out. Sigh.

I've applied for two jobs in the last two days. The first, a traditional academic librarian job here, and the 2nd, another development researcher job at the local PBS affiliate. They'll never even interview me, because I have too much overall experience, but I figured I'd throw my hat in anyway.

Woohoo, Ann!!!!

Brandy and Mindi, you ladies are ROCKING IT lately!!! awesome.

Bard, I've been reading your posts and they're inspiring me to get started again...not that I have. But it makes me want to.

Good luck, Prae!

Brandy, solid running even if it was a bit too fast (is there such a thing?) Just kidding, I know the importance of pace disipline.

Yesterday: my after noon med long run was a bit of a train wreck. We had been having cooler / less humid weather until yesterday. It was 93 and humid when I set out for 14 miles. I managed 12 and the last 1.5 miles were a run/walk death march. I lost 3.5 lbs of fluid weight. Oh well, lived to run another day.

Good runs all.

my crazy stretch of work has finally ended. now, i have 5 days off. woot! in 8 days, i worked 52 hours. thats not counting the commute time.

we have music class this afternoon and then i'm going to start wrapping up some of AK's presents and do some party stuff.

last night after work, i went to get a mani/pedi, then DH met me in the city. we had a quiet dinner and went to watch Hair, the musical! it was so much fun and i really enjoyed myself. the only crappy part was that DH had an annoying patient constantly badger him so he was outside the theater, fielding calls for about 1/3 of the show. oh, well. he is never off work, really.

anyhow. i'm looking forward to some homemade crafts after AK wakes up! - i've missed her soooooooo much these past few days!

Hi guys!

What a gorgeous day here! Finally! I went to lunch with some of the work crew and we sat outside and enjoyed the sun.

Ann, I hope you get your assistantship! Sounds like it would be a neat experience for you.

Brandy, good luck this weekend! I'd like to run shirtless but I don't think I could now. My belly is not what it used to be before the kids. *sigh* I'd like to know how some of those celebs do it (have you seen Brittney Spear's abs lately???) Of course...I guess they have specialists that help fix that sort of thing.

Good luck with the applications, Maureen!

I have some miles on my calendar...can't remember how many, 3 or 5. So I'll do them later with the girls in the stroller.

Nope, my mileage peaks at 70. I only hit 75 because I had to shuffle runs around for our trip this weekend. So, the last 6 days included last week's long run and this week. For my training week (Monday through Sunday), I'll only hit 65. But I am counting this 75 anyway because I have never done that before and it is pretty sweet!

Glad you and DH had a nice little date - even if interrupted (which sucks). Have fun with sweet AK!

I am over the top excited about our mini vacation this weekend. Should be a blast goofing off in DC with my boys!

Bex - I'll definitely waive to you! :)

Moe - good luck with the job(s)!

Timr - one of these years I will do NYC. I really want to qualify first though and I need to do it in a half. Trouble is that I don't run many of them and when I do, it is usually in the peak of mary training, or when I am completely out of shape (like 6-8 weeks after a marathon and I am doing nada training). One day.... Anyhoo - can't wait to see how it pans out for you. You are due for a great race this fall!

Well the swim attempt was another scheduling FAIL. They have closed the "family" pool for maintainence and that means all the people are moved into the lap pool. Grrr.. Not going to be open until Sept. 2!!

So, instead I walked around my neighborhood for 20 min. Felt pretty good, but I have to see how the 'ol knee likes it tomorrow.
