And Beaker after I posted that first post lastnight Craig asked if I was going to make popcorn for watching our movie. I ended up not making it becuase I just got done baking cookies but it was odd that he asked for it out of the blue like that!!

I just want to tell you guys how much it means to me to have you in my corner. Your kind words and sound advice are truly making a big difference for me as I deal with this.

DS counseling yesterday went okay I guess, the counselor is going to make a referral for a Milan personality test, I have to research what that is. Meeting with the Truancy Office this afternoon, I'm a little nervous but I think the fact that DS has started counseling and that I am paying attention to this and he's not a neglected kid, will help us out.

Good morning!

Another snow day here! I'm so glad DH is in Dallas right now. His commute home last night would have taken him 5 or 6 hours, minimum. The 4 AM (the dogs had me up) news had people on who were still trying to get home from last night. What a nightmare!! Hopefully, his flight will be A-Ok because he has another cardiac cath tomorrow.

(((BigG) Good luck with the meeting this afternoon. hugs to you and DS. You are a great mom!

BigG - that should definitely help a lot!

I thought of your DS as I was sitting in a parent meeting last night. I was sitting in on a 9th grader's meeting with her mother and guidance counselor. She had done pretty well in 7th and 8th and then tanked this fall - started refusing to come to school, trying to leave during the day. She's missed 30 days of a class already this year!

Our meeting was to help her make a plan to get back on track. I'm a big fan of concrete plans for kids (action steps) as opposed to vauge statements (like you need to do better). One thing I noticed was the people in the room with her kept talking at her about what's going on. So I tried to talk to her, get her to put into her words what she felt were her roadblocks to success. She was able to articulate them very well, when given the chance. So we used that to build her action plan. During our conversation, it became clear that there were other things going on in her life that were interfering with school (she recently testified at Grand Jury). Those things can't be ignored either.

I really like your approach with your DS - you are looking at the whole picture. He really needs that. Good luck today!

BigG, I'm sure you guys are on the right track.

Lots more snow here. After the couple inches we got during the day yesterday, we were suppoed to get another 6-9 overnight. We ended up with more like 15". Jeebus, there's a lot of snow out there! I haven't seen my lawn since Christmas, and at this rate, I won't see it again until St Patrick's Day. This must be what it's like to live in Minnesota. Damn global warming!

Anyway, some good news: After two months of being unemployed, my wife got a new job yesterday! She starts on Monday. So since tomorrow is her last "day off", I'm taking the day off too, just so that we can have a day to spend together doing... something. We have no plans, so I have no idea what we'll do. But anything is better than being at work...

Big G, super big vibes to you and your family today...be strong.

2 hour delay today. It's stopped snowing, more or less, but they haven't plowed yet and we have another foot of snow. I'm working from home this morning...but until they plow, I'm here. I would LOVE to stay home but I really can't. I have a profile due today and I have all the documentation (in print) here. I have to give it to my colleague to edit and fact check, WITH all the documentation.

I wear regular socks to walk to work in, then change in to work socks, like trouser socks, and work shoes. Today when I put on my work socks here at my desk I discovered I have two different work socks. They're both black but one is sheer and the other opaque. <sigh> Good thing I sit behind a desk all day. And it's not as bad as wearing two different shoes, which I have also done. Twice.

DS did go to school today. Late, but he's there. I was also late as a result. And I'm leaving early for the truancy meeting. I'm still taking a lunch hour treadmill run. so there. and then some.

Congratulations, Maggie!

Bard is right, the buckeyes had more fun than the boilers. I didn't see the whole game, but what I saw was crazy. I have to say I'm proud that they kept trying, despite failing miserably :) At least it wasn't the Hoosiers doing well!

I'm going to see if I can get an invite to Lena's party

((BigG)) both for your DS issues and having IceT for a boyfriend. Or something like that. Your real life friend needs to have a crisis of her own so she can learn to shut it! (not that I really wish her ill or anything)

Hooray for Beaker hitting the TM

((Missy)) glad they canceled your flight in advance at least

Prae - don't be a nervous host my dear, they're all so glad it's not at their house, they won't care what your house is like! Congrats on looking different today ;) Hope you're really okay from the fall. Applause is applause, take it and run!

Kath - glad you got an update! Hiring always seems to take longer than it should!

So, I think I'm more or less caught up from the monster thread yesterday.

Last night my Papaw was admitted to the hospital with pneumonia. Sounds like a promising update this morning, so it should be a short hospital stay to clear the lungs and then back home.

Hi all - well, the new RAM modules that came in the mail yesterday were just what the doc ordered for my laptop. Plugged them in to replace the old modules, and all those damn error messages have stopped. Best thing about the brouhaha is now I've got a less cluttered computer (without a lot of the pre-installed stuff that I won't bother to re-install.)

YAYAY Maggie! I hope you and boB have a fun time before you get back on the employment lines

(((Big G)))) - I too kept thinking about you last night. I bet it is scary - but you are doing the right thing. I hope everything goes well. Hahahaha - and I forgot to comment about your new man, Ice T. LOL.

YAY MAGGIE!!!

I have that interview at 1pm with the place Dh keeps calling Sheisters Inc. I'm going more for the entertainment value than actually wanting the job. Actually, since I know I don't want the job, should I call and cancel so as to not waste either of our time? I'm kind of curious to see what he will ask, since I've never interviewed for this kind of work before, so it might be good research.

Morning all.

Hope everyone is well.

It's been a sureal month for me and my family. I think some of the toughest times are having to deal with my family members. I had purposely estranged myself from them about ten years ago and now have to speak and meet with them on a daily basis. I have to admit that there have ben some good moments though...reconnecting with my sister was good, we are very much alike but she's more controling. We have two houses to settle now and the process of attending to my mothers belongings is very dificult for us all. Unlike my grandfather where he was ready to leave this earth and you could see it with how he was widdling down his belongings, my mother's house looks as if she just stepped out for the moment only to return to finish making her tea, or pick up her knitting. This is going to be a long process and I hope that there are going to be learning opportunities and positive moments.

My son has semed to settle down, but only after I made it clear that I was not beyond taking him to a juvenile home if he continued to disrespect our home. I have three people other than him to think about and our home needs to be a shelter from the negative. We still have moments though, but not nearly as difficult as they were before. He knows his future is in his own hands. He knows we love him and support him. He knows that being on his own and cut off from what he had taken for granted is sobering.

My daughter is a tank and continuously amazes me. The day my mother passed away my wife and I gently woke the kids to let them know. After the initial shock wore off of her, my daughter slipped her arms around my shoulders to comfort me. I had been able to keep things together up until then but her gesture left me totally overwhelmed and grief overcame me. She sat holding me as I weeped as I haven't done before. At 12 years of age, she's something.

My wife is the most amazing woman I know. Her patience and understanding is unbelievable. The only way to describe her is that she craddles my heart and soul with her strength and tenderness. She laughs with me, and she weeps with me.

The days are getting better, but I still have days that are darker than others. Thanks to you all for your kind words and well wishes. You guys are an amazing group.

Torque - that story about your daughter got me misty. With all the crap you have going on, it sounds like she and your wife are rocks. Here's hoping for some more uneventful days.

We only got about a foot of snow here. Working from home, then taking mys son into the city tonight for one of his shows.

((torque)) thanks for the update, I've been wondering about how you're doing. I'm glad things are improving with your son and that the women in your life are taking good care of you!
