On this day - in 1970 at St. Mary's Hospital (now Denali State Bank), on the banks of the Chena River in Faribanks, Alaska - I was born!

11 mile birthday run with Dave, Sue, Chris, Matt, Don, Paulie Walnuts, Larry and MJ. East Side Drive, my favorite road loop. Chris and I slowly dropped everyone else on the lead into the Illinios Street hill and then I broke Chris' spirit going up. My first masters run!

I've got lots of stuff to do around the house, but its wayyyy to nice too nice of a fall day to waste it on that. I'm going to throw the mountain bike into the truck and head up to Southern Kettle Moraine in Wisconsin and spend the day having fun!

Have a great day everyone!

Happy Birthday! Sounds like a wonderful day.

I did the at home exercises for the shoulder this morning and was able to walk the 1/4 mile to the MBTA platform without slowing down at all.

Happy birthday Mike! I love Alaska - DH and I visited there 3 years ago and spent 2+ weeks hiking all over the southern part (Denali, Seward, Homer, etc). I hope you have a great day cycling and that you thoroughly enjoy this momentous occasion.

DOR for me. I had planned to take a Zumba class this evening but I just have too much to do tonight after work and figured my mental status would be better if I just bite the bullet and finish what I need to do. Then I can have fun without stuff weighing over my head.

Enjoy your day everyone, and run a few miles for me.

@Mike - dude that sounds like fun. You should do the John Muir blue loop, hit the connector loop then do emma carlin. I was never able to make that loop without falling off my bike. Dislocated my shoulder too! Have fun and happy birthday.

Happy b-day Mike!!! Spending this gorgeous fall day of midwest on a mtb trail is like a dream b-day activity (of daytime, of course )! Have fun. Yeah it gets better as your age climbs to the next AG. Welcome to 40-44AG!!

Scott - glad to hear I am not the only one who falls off the bike.

Soon taking a mtb to a dirt road for just easy spinning enjoy the fall weather. Shoulder still not good enough to take the ride to ther real singletrack - too scared to fall again or a sharp move and hurt it further. And I have no interest in riding on the road, battling this consistant wind. Then easy run later.

Like Scott, I haven't don't anything today...knee was chattering at me yesterday so I played it smart. Today I'll play it by ear and see what happens.

Happy Birthday Mike!

As for me, semi-early morning today, I was in the pool swimming at 6AM. Only an easy 30 minutes (1,500m) on the schedule, it was nice and short. I focused on my form and felt pretty good.

Tonight I have an easy hour ride on the schedule, which will be done in my basement on the trainer. But first I am going to be getting a new chain installed on my bike (yea!) by a friend of mine.

I am pretty sure that I am going to be taking a personal day tomorrow and not going into work. I am too stressed and I just need a long weekend, I need some time to figure everything out. Heck, tomorrow I will be going full blown into "find a new job" mode.

Have a great day everyone!

I was in 8th grade when Mike was born.

Today I noticed on Facebook that one of my spin instructors is the exact same age as my oldest son. The spin instructor has a 6 year old son.

This is making me feel decrepid! LOL

Really, Mike, I hope your day is a blast. I thought 40 was a great year, and hope you have the same experience.

Oh no, it's the big 4-0! Congrats, Mike. I went through the same just a month and a half ago. It's been a pretty good decade so far .

I actually ran today! 3.5mi run with 1/2mi or so of warm-up/cool-down walking. It was 57F at the start of my run which was perfect. I saw a guy raking his lawn with a power washer.

4.5 miles on my reuglar loop, but I ran it backwards.. usually I finish up the long gradual hill, but gradually down it and ran UP the steep hill. Boy have I fallen a lot lately, kind of discouraging, but I think it will come back easily - I Hope
