I'm first today! Hooray!
Actually no running for me today as I have an early morning meeting and then am shooting home around 3pm-ish to get ready for the Bruce Springsteen concert tonight! I love going to concerts at Madison Square Garden despite their itty bitty seats with no knee room (like an airplane); the energy in that place is absolutely amazing and it feels like the whole place is vibrating.

Tomorrow I have the day off work and DH and I are going to go to the gym and then take a short hike with the dogs. I'm still doing upper body stuff (my arms are really starting to look buff!) but am allowed to do more walking at least now. I set up a big evaluation appt with the physical therapist for Monday evening and then will get to work on a smooth recovery. I talked to him about my goals and he's onboard with me so I'm very hopeful.

Yesterday I was working on developing that library program called Read, Right and Run and I contacted the local running club, called Taconic Road Runners. Would you believe that within minutes of posting an email, I got a phone call from a woman in town and she and her husband came right over and helped me organize & plan for over two hours! They were enthusiastic and so incredibly helpful -- it was amazing. They also invited me to join them for some runs when my leg gets better. And, coincidently, the woman went to HS with my secretary. What a small world.

Have a great day and great runs today....it's warm (70) and foggy here this morning, with rain anticipated.

Susan, good to hear that your PT is supportive of your goals. Cool to hear about the library program. Happy concert-going!

Pro, so dtoce did not talk you out of 12M on Saturday, huh? Here's hoping you stay healthy.

Work is a little slow these days, so it is my intention to read, snark, and be generally irritating until my track workout tonight. Then I shall return, looking for sympathy, as it looks as if I'll be running in the middle of our first real gale of the autumn.

Yep, batten down the hatches Westies. The first WWW (wet, wild, & windy) weather of the year is here! Since I'm still limited to 3 miles at a time, I'll probably wuss out and run indoors on the 1/8 mile track at my club. That distance is about all I can handle mentally while inside.

Susan, have fun w/ The Boss! I'm completely envious. And it's very cool about the Read, Right, and Run program response.

Okay, Millbot, here it is. It's not exactly a pie, but a tart. The beauty part is that you don't have to be great at rolling out a crust, like Tammy is. This is much more forgiving, plus it tastes really good. (And looks elegant, too):

Raspberry Tart May

For crust:
1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1/4 cup sugar
1/2 cup (1 stick) cold unsalted butter, cut into pieces
2 to 3 tablespoons cold water

For filling:
1 (8-ounce) package cream cheese, softened
1/2 cup sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 large egg, beaten lightly
1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
1/4 cup seedless raspberry jam
1 tablespoon water
3 cups raspberries, picked over

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

Make crust: In a food processor or with a pastry knife blend together flour, sugar, and butter until mixture resembles coarse meal. Add 2 tablespoons water and toss until incorporated. Add enough remaining water if necessary until mixture begins to come together but is still crumbly. Refrigerate dough, wrapped in plastic for 1 hour.

Press crust evenly onto bottom and sides of an 11-inch tart pan with removable fluted rim. Prick the crust with a fork, line the dough with aluminum foil and weigh it down with pie weights or beans and bake in middle of oven until golden, about 30 minutes.

Make filling while crust bakes: In a bowl with an electric mixer beat together cream cheese, sugar, vanilla, and egg until smooth. Add flour and blend mixture well.

Pour the filling into the warm crust, spreading evenly, and bake in middle of oven until set, about 20 minutes. Cool the tart in its pan on a rack.

In a small saucepan heat jam with water over moderate heat, stirring, until melted and smooth. Remove pan from heat and cool jam slightly. Arrange raspberries decoratively on top of tart and brush gently with jam.

Now, for running. I ran 4 miles this morning, plus another mile of walking for w/u and c/d. I felt a little stiff, so this wasn't exactly an easy run. But it was nice that I got a break in the rain for it. (We have officially broken the record for wetest October since record-taking began here in Omaha!)

Susan, I'm totally envious of you...have a great time at the concert. The running program sounds like it's "got legs", so to speak. That's cool about the response you got.

I've really got to get some work done today...

But not quite as long as Montana. When speeding tickets were only $5 and didn't go on your driving record, I always thought I should slip the officer a $20 to cover the entire state. They eliminated the speed limit for a while but that didn't work out so well. But that's another story....

I have zero running miles logged for the week thus far. And I don't even have a good reason other than pure disinterest.

Pass me a piece of that tart with a side order of a swift kick to the arse.

That's amazing Susan.

MS - i enjoy your snarking, snark away.

I slept all of 2.5 hrs and jumped outa bed to go to the Spa. DW swam, I warmed up on the elliptical a bit before my run. They actual have an extention trail from the Spa to the VCT -thats nice. I found the hard spot in my calf thats giving me probs. Massaging at breaks helps. I did 2mile warmup, 3 @ LT, stretched and massaged calf, 1 mile warmup, 3 @ LT, 1 cooldown, 3/4M walk.

10M total

Had a banana and I'm starting to feel fiesty,
11.2 sluggish, heavy legged miles this morning. I struggled to keep a 9:15 pace. Can tell it's going to be an Advil day. Got chased by a little, fluffy, white dog. Why is it the small ones think they're so tough?

Now I'm off to cheer for my son and his XC team in their division race. Go MHS!!

Hi
Hungry again..
runin.. that does look yummy!

Susan... green with envy.. ya got a date with The Boss!!

4 mi with Tory, nice and easy, no toe complaints. Since it's 3 and a bit weeks before the marathon, I'm totally paranoid about injuries. ANY little discomfort gives me concern. If I get injured training, it is always within the last 4 weeks... yikes (9th training cycle, 4 injuries, 3 DNS's). One time I had a great 20 miler the end of the week before taper. I remember noting that everything felt GREAT on Monday. Tuesday I did some 600m intervals and my hamstring pulled.. DNS. Can't be too careful!

You're gonna be fine...you just have to relax now and stop thinking so much. Go have a piece of pie.

I know what you mean about injury paranoia, though. And why do they occur after a great run or a great week? My bursitis became symptomatic 3 days before a 1/2 marathon, after an absolutely great week of running.

Riley - have fun tonight and enjoy your day off tomorrow!
Runinb - that tart sure looks yummy!
Gin - Must have been your last double digit run? If so, . Wish your son GL !

I don't think I'll be getting a run in today. So good runs to the rest of you!

Okay, that last bit made me lol. If it's pure disinterest, choovie, you need a break, so don't be so hard on yourself. Try a hike on a favourite trail, and if it the mood strikes, turn it into an untimed run (because that's what you want to do).
Don't know if this is a snark launch, but MS, if you're base building, why are you doing track w/o's?
>>>ohm>>>perch<<<ohm<<<, I'm transferring the calming vibes I received yesterday on to you.
runin, I understand that raspberries are supposed to curb cravings (as if). So if I have one piece, do I have to devour another in order to stop the cravings?
Caigr, I hope you're not running that relay all out. Maybe Dale needs to come back and yell at you.
riley, what a great idea! Glad you got such an enthusiastic response.
Nice runs gin, millbot, Detective Corndog .
Plans have just changed. Waterlily and I do not want to pay $150 for a relay team. She is injured and should jog anyway. So I am running with Spacecadet and she with RCG. For a while (10?). Then we have lunch later.

craigi
p.s. I replied to some notes in my RR. (at that other place.) You have assumed a whole new persona as evil target. It's Tall's fault.

No snarking necessary. "going to the track" on Thursdays mostly means meeting Coach and the rest of her stable. At the moment, she doesn't let me do much real speed work. Instead, I get to run around and around like the cool kids, going, well, less slowly than usual.

I win because Coach gets to watch me run and give feedback.
Coach wins because I stop bitching quite so much about the Boooooooring base building phase. "Well - weren't you just at the track on Thursday? Hmmm? Hmmm?"

I'm about 85% awake today. Face puffy, eyes not quite open. I'm not sick or anything, and I got plenty of sleep: I just can't wake up. Bleh.

I want this storm to get on with it and blow through already. It's just clearing its throat right now, and my Favourite Auntie in the Woild is supposed to be riding the ferries tomorrow and Saturday.

Okay, MS. That's better. I'll be blocks away from you on Saturday. If it's an overnighter, maybe a run Sunday morning?

Orange juice snork!!! (Ow!) As if I'm evil. (audio)

Um, I'm not sure. But I do know that if a pie is calling to you, it stops calling when it's gone.
