Good morning! DOR for me as I woke up late and it's pouring out. I had been thinking about taking the day off from exercise anyway since my hip is grumbling at me. I'll be back on the belt to nowhere tomorrow morning and hope to crank out a good solid 3 miler.

I registered for a local "run for the turkeys" and this weekend I think I'll go to the course and run a portion of it. I heard that they changed the route and would like to familiarize myself with it. It's pretty hilly, unfortunately, but the race is a lot of fun with lots of comraderie and very is professionally organized. Lots of college teams run it so I've only gotten hardware twice, but I have no expectations of doing well this year since I only started back to running this summer after a year off due to my neck injury. It will still be lots of fun even without any speed expectations.

It's supposed to rain heavily today & tomorrow but be nice for the weekend. Is anyone on this group running the NYC marathon on Sunday? My close friend is running it for the 3rd time and my local running club has good representation with lots of the members participating. My dad (RIP) ran it 4 times; the first time was 29 years ago when I was pregnant with my second child while I stood in the crowd cheering and trying not to pee on my own feet. No bathrooms anywhere for spectators!

Look at Susan up early starting the Thursday thread. I hear you about the weather, it is just flat out disgusting out there today.

I too was up early this morning, at multiple times I might add. 11:15PM when DD1 came in wanting to climb into our bed....she was escorted back to her room by my loving wife. At 2:00AM when DD2 wanted to climb into our bed....it was my turn to escort her back to her bed. Then I finally got up and out of bed at 4:20AM so that I could be at the gym by 5:00AM, which I was.

AM: 3,500m straight swim in about 1:12:00. I felt sooooooo slow this morning. No worries though, I was able to make the distance without any issues and I didn't drown, so all is good.

PM: At 8:30AM today I am going to try and set up an appointment with my sports doc to get my right quad checked out and also have him adjust my neck which has a little twinge in it. Provided everything goes OK at the doctor, and he gives me the go ahead, I will get my hour ride in tonight after the girls go to bed. If there is no "go ahead", then I will rest up and try to get to bed early.

Have a great day everyone, stay dry....it is going to be raining all day here in the mid-Atlantic region.

Good morning everybody! A bit of a surprise as I expected to be starting the daily thread today.

Up at 0'dark thirty and ran easy to the club. Met up with Mark, Sue (and MJ), Dave, Matt H., Matt D., Rick, Don, Chris and Larry. East Side Drive loop today, ran at a comfortable pace until we crossed over the river at Illinois St and started climbing. I slowly cranked up the effort and strung out the group. After some stretching and banter at the club I ran easy home. 12.75 mi in 1:35.

Heading downtown this morning to see dual Louis Sullivan exhibits at the Art Institute and Chicago Cultural Center. On the way back I'll do the bib pickup for the Hot Chocolate 15k race I'm doing this weekend. Should be a nice day in downtown Chicago.

2 hr bike ride this afternoon.

Have a great day everyone!

miles - nice swim this AM! Good thinking with the sports doc, now is not the time to take chances. Rest well, we want to see you smiling when you cross that finish line!

Lunchtime run is out, I'll be checking out doggie daycares....so will be running this evening plus CORE.

Susan - "belt to nowhere"...that's so funny!

I'm envious of all of you with your nice cool fall temps...it topped out at 97 in So Cal yesterday. UGH! It's just not right. Anywho...easy 4.25m run this morning with the pooch. My Garmin kinda flipped out on me at 1.14m - lost the satellite and it didn't pick up again until I realized what had happened almost a mile later, restarted and it was fine.

Good morning, TEAM LIT!

miles: good luck with the right quad treatment. Keep reminding yourself that from here on out less is FAR more. You've got it in you to stomp Ironman. Don't let the routine of routine drive injury to the forefront.

Bannon: Take a look at Alaska Mike's run today. Which really isn't all that different than what he does each Thursday, or at least once per week. That is the type of workout that builds both endurance AND strength, and it is those workouts that are far better than, say, a much longer run at easy pace. I know you know all of this but figure I'd toss it out there since you're thinking about it as it pertains to your winter base.

Me...

4.5 mile trail run with one other in complete darkness over technical trails. With a big race coming up this weekend where I will have to run the first hour in darkness, I used this morning as an opportunity to try out a headlamp. Not too-too bad sighting. But going is slower than in daylight. No falls.

Thor - yikes, technical trails in the dark sounds like an invitation to a sprained ankle! Be careful!! Rainy here too, which is fine except MIL is flying in so hoping her flight isn't delayed. DOR for me, but if Eli wakes up in time, he's got a swimming lesson before we pick Grandma up at the airport!

Thor, as always thanks for the encouragement. You should really consider getting into coaching, you are quite the motivator. Also, I am a big fan of running in the dark with a headlamp, makes you more acutely aware of your surroundings. Good luck this weekend.

Following up on my earlier post, I was able to get an appointment with my doc at 4PM today (thank you whoever cancelled!). I'm actually looking forward to the visit with him, he will not only fix me up, but also provide me with some last minute advice and insight on my upcoming IM (he is a two time Kona finisher, and not coincidentally, the person who talked me into doing IMAZ). Only 17 more days until race day!!!

4+ miler from the Y early this morning. I started a little later than the rest of the group as the front desk person at the Y overslept so I toook her place till she could get there. Of course I got to wake her up with a phone call. Our route goes out and then turns around so I met them before they had gotten back to the Y. It was a good run, a little chilly so I went with the long sleeves.

2.5 miles then a visit with lisa.

Drizzles and mid-50s. I was feeling wimpish, so I went ahead and wore tights and long sleeves. I figured it would be better to be a bit warm for such a short run, than rely on my body to heat me up. Glad I did, too......was a comfortable run.

Since I have meetings during swim tomorrow, and failed to make it yesterday, I think I'm going to go ahead and hit the pool tonight after work, too.

Odd training schedule today, for sure.

Been fighting a cold for the past week. I thought I was over the hump but I feel pretty crappy today. May try and do an Insanity workout this evening if I feel better. Otherwise an unplanned DOR.

Yeah, Joe T and I hopped some sticks and logs this morning. As for the headlamps, I tried both. Sort of. The LED-only one was "better," or so it seemed, so I went with that one. Until Joe forced me to take his. So I used Joe's for the second half of the run. His was as close as you can get to daylight. So I'll go with that. And get you back yours. Thanks man... it's much appreciated!

I'll find out the brand and probably post here for those looking for headlamps, because Joe got the light off a recommendation from his brother, who is part of a search and rescue opperation somewhere in New Hampshire or Vermont. It is the lamp they use. And it really is far brighter than most without being too big.

Glad you got it done today!

Feeling pretty tired and have a couple mild-but-persistent pains, so I think I'm going to drop running for a few days. That leaves a bike commute home and an evening swim. Should be manageable.
