Good morning, TEAM LIT, and a very big thank you to all Veterans who were a part of enabling my lifestyle and freedoms.

What a surprise: A few months back a friend at work asked me what my next adventure would be. He knows my background and knows that come fall I'm hitting up the marathons. He also knew about my ventures in mountain running. I told him that I was contemplating Stone Cat 50 (race report a third of the way done) now that I was enjoying my time on trails. Each week he'd ask if I were still up for it, and I would tell him, "Yup, I think. I'll at least do the marathon." And each week he'd reply, "I know you, you'll do the full 50." This little dance went on up until the last week before the race. That's when he siad, "I'm thinking of coming down to take pictures." My friend is really into photography, and although he does not do it for money, he is quite good AND has shot many events and stills and scenes, and he is so good that he's even done a bunch of weddings. Race day comes and sure enough my friend is out on the course snapping photos. He was out there for my first and second laps, taking shots of me and all the other runners. He stopped when it got too cold. His pictures really came out awesome. He had a whole bunch of me, not to mention many other really good ones. So today I come into work and there, on my desk, is a 11" x 14" framed shot of me on my second loop. I couldn't believe it. The experience was so rich that the detail in the picture came to life. It reached out from the photographic paper and touched me. Over the last few days, I have joked, "Every time I blink I still see leaves," because how I had to stare at an endless trail-full of leaves for hours. This time when I blinked, I saw leaves through the prism of a tear.

Wow Thor, what a gift your friend gave you. So special. Contemplating another swim today after walking in the park with Eli and his girlfriend (another infant 2 weeks older than him and her mom). We will see if he's up for an hour of babysitting after the walk. Beautiful day, looking forward to being outside.

No holiday for us, either.

You've got a great friend, Thor.....those gifts are the best gifts!

2 miles this morning for me.

Sounds like I"m not doing hardly any mileage running, but I"m reestablishing a habit, and trying to work up to a strong base rather than jump in too heavy at first and then getting burned out.

IM Hangover, Dad's surgery and passing, and then his funeral really disrupted the "flow" last year.

Hopefully, this year will be better.

In that light, I've decided that as often as possible, I'll be working races or just doing them for fun. It's my turn to give back to friends.

Big, big employment changes on the near horizon have left me feeling out of sorts lately. That and the time change, I suppose - that always gets to me a little. Anyway, I haven't really been myself the past few days and the workouts have shown it. Not sure what's in store today, but hopefully at least a good swim in order to meet my "Turkey Laps" pledge at the gym.

Thor, great story and great gift

Me: I was up and on my bike by 5:45AM, riding on my trainer while watching the Universal Sports coverage of Ironman Arizona. It was the last ride I on my bike until next Thursday. I just dropper her off at Cadence Performance Cycling in Philadelphia along with a gear back. I am supposed to get in a 3,500m swim today, but my schedule isn't going to allow it. I am not fretting over it though thanks to the advice of Thor and Scott (thanks guys).

I am feeling pretty good, no real aches and pains to speak of. I am excited to get on the plane next Tuesday and fly out to Arizona and spend some time with my 'rents prior to race day. Oh, in case anyone is wondering, my BIB number is 906.

Have a wonderful day everyone!

@miles - a few years ago I posted this cool picture of the IMAZ transition and how to navigate through it. I think there was also some imaz threads around, I'll see if I can find them.

PM Yo Mikey. He's a great guy and local, I had a beer with him one time while I was there. He can give you good places to go while you are there. There is this great pasta place downtown (on University?), I went there twice!

Thor, I hope you can post that picture sometime! It sounds great; what a wonderful gift.

I spent a lot of time today thinking of all my uncles because every single one of them was a veteran. I also dated several military men and almost married one!

Today is DH's 58th birthday and luckily we both had the day off work. I got my car repaired early and then we spent the rest of the day doing a short but very steep hike nearby that my physical therapist had described to me. The scenery was gorgeous! What a nice day (sunny with a high of 61 degrees). Tonight we have Tom's favorite dinner and then some of his buddies are coming over to play cards. So no big workouts for me today but it was a lovely short hike at least.

Enjoy your day everyone and it's countdown for the weekend!

Left work early to take Little BrewDad to the ENT doc. Verdict is tubes & adenoids so my baby has to have surgery in a few weeks. 6 mile run after getting home and it felt great. Nice & fluid. I love those runs!

@Thor, that's what it's all about -- isn't it?

Me: easy 3mi run after work. It was so nice to be out there. I think Sunday is going to be a disaster given my lack of preparedness but I'll be there. Unfortunately, DW will not -- she's been very sick this week -- enough that she's going to the doctor tomorrow with the fear that she has pneumonia or bronchitis or something :(. I was really looking forward to running our 2nd HM together. I will have two SILs and one of the SIL's husbands there though. They'll all smoke me.
