Day off here as I mini taper for a Sunday race. So I am just lurking around looking for trouble. Let's see...who's injured and laying around with nothing to do?

So Souc! First we race, then we play pool, and then arm wrestle. Best two outa' three wins. Loser buys the beer.

I had a refreshing 4.5 mile run this morning in the frozen air. It was down right brisk out there with lots of frost. Somehow I warm up fine while I'm running, but once I get home I get cold in a way that's hard to warm up.

Pro and Souci, have fun now, "ya hear".

I'm going to finish eating my oatmeal and take the kids to school. Later this morning we'll see how the dentist fares in numbing my darn tooth so she can start the root canal. I'm not looking forward to this...

The plan called for 9 miles with 5x1000m @ 4:15. My foot and shin were achy during my warmup, and got worse during the first 1K repeat. So I stopped at 3½ miles. Disappointing, but I want to live to run another day.

Have a happy Thursday.

I took the morning off. I logged 300 miles in Oct. and I can't remember if I"ve ever done that before. Certainly not as a fat old man. Will do a mini taper till I race a little 5k Saturday.

Stay out of the candy! 22lbs of candy?

Millbot... Wierd.. my shins and claves and ankles were also shouting today during my 5 mi recovery run but when I started doing my 23 sec strides (6 sprinkled throughout the 5 miles) my feet stopped slapping the pavement and the sorenesses evaporated. My theory is after a day off (it's taper week) the blood vessels, capillaries contract and it takes some pressure to open them back up to get the oxygen to the muscles. My theory..

5 mile, 2nd post marathon run for me. I wore a long sleeve T and shorts and regretted the long sleeves 5 minutes in. Warm and sort of muggy this morning!

Was planning on only 3 miles, felt pretty good and decided the extra 2 would allow me to sneak into my daughters treat bag without too much guilt. As I ran through the neighborhoods this morning, I was glad to see the older "goblins" were well behaved last night. Now, I hear a Butterfinger calling my name........

No formal exercise yesterday, but trick or treating above Ashland in the hills kicked my butt! I'm actally sore today.. guess walking up very steep hills uses different muscles. The kids have WAY too much candy & wondering if there is someplace I can donate some to. We all had fun, kids & adults alike.

Today 2 miles on TM is on the agenda again... late tonight.

<hugs to all those injured or going through stress>

Today I have a crazy day. Physical therapy at 7am, work all day, go to the gym after work for walk/jog, drive an additional 20 miles to pick up the special dog food needed by my little Remy, then AT MIDNIGHT (would you believe) I have to drive to Kennedy airport to pick up my son from a CA conference and drop him back off at his apartment. Then on Friday morning I have to be back at PT at 7am again. I think I'm only going to get about 3-4 hours of sleep tonight. argh......maybe I'll take off tomorrow afternoon from work.

The only part of today that I'm looking forward to is the gym workout of walk/jog.

My thoughts are with you tomwhite and Pickles.

I have a 5 miler scheduled today, which will be my longest run since late August. The problem is, I have so many different 5 mile routes in my stable of runs, I don't know which one to chose. Good problem to have!

As someone who is a die-hard stretcher, but totally understands those who prefer not to stretch, I just want say that I would have to respectively disagree with the notion of not stretching when doing speedwork. For me, when I'm doing a speedwork cycle in my training, I really have to stretch more than normal. Maybe it's a throwback to my sprinting days when we spent most of track practice lying around stretching (lazy sprinters!), but the faster I run, the more I need to stretch to fend off soreness. My $0.02 ($0.01 Canadian)...

Gloriously cold clear spooky morning for walking (boing!) Hamish (boing!) the (boing!) flying (boing!) dog (boing!). Stars and moon and leaves all a-rustle, and Orion waving his shield over the chattery oak tree branches. The horse chestnuts have it in for me and are lurking under piles of leaves, hoping I'll step on one and fall on my ass. You can hear them giggle as they wait for the fun to begin.

Storm's going into the vet next Thursday to see the esteemed specialist. I hope he finds something. This dog is too young to be hurting this much.

I've written Coach and told her I'm skipping the track tonight. If I feel good, I will go for a slow, slow hour in my cushioned shoes, sans orthotics and see how that goes.

Thinking of tomwhite and pickles.
Ksrunr a fat, old man? I highly doubt that.
Sal, nice description of your walk. Beware the horse chestnuts. heh heh

Busy exercise day for me -- I hope I can get it all in plus manage to work 8 hrs. Work is really starting to cramp my style.

Still giggling over the fun I had trick-or-treating with my 2.5 yr old nephew last night. He was so polite to everyone, remembering to say "thank you" and "have a nice day." When we got back to my house, he dumped out his pumpkin bucket spewing candy all over the living room floor. I sat down next to him and asked if I could please have some Junior Mints. He scowled at me, flung his body over the top of his candy and said, "NO! Mine!" Then he scooped up his loot and scurried off to hide in the corner with it. How quickly two year olds turn on you.

Important things first: (((tomwhite and pickles))) Hoping for good news. mill and Sally, wish I had your smarts.

You sure know how to hurt a hurtin' gal. You know I can't run, let alone race right now. Grrrr. So I take it you mean in a few months' time.

But I didn't say anything about arm wrestling. But, hey, why not? Here I am a few years ago, taking on a few of my friends. Don't be afraid. G'on, open it (audio warning).

I'll be getting in a run during my lunch hour today, so that I can just go straight home and have a family dinner tonight. We haven't had a family dinner once yet this week with our various activities and commitments.

Sounds like we're all overburdened with commitments today. TG the weekend is coming! Another good thing is that I found the tiny scrap of paper with my son's flight number & airline listing! Otherwise I would have been driving all over stupid Kennedy airport at midnight.

Hippo - I have a question for you. . . . what does your training look like in terms of mileage? I mean, if you are going to go run 50 or a 100 miles, what kind of mileage are you putting in prior to that? Is there such a thing as a "Long run" in preparation for something of that length? For a marathon, a good long run prior to that would be something in the neighborhood of 22-25 miles, but if you are going to prep for 100 miles, you aren't doing like a 80 mile long run are you?

and how many years have you been running now? did you just right into extreme distances or did you start out running your local 10K's?

6 miles in the woods somewhere in the void between easy and recovery pace.
