BBS - I'm not sure I'd want to do more than 1k intervals @ 5k pace. If you can you that workout, with reduced rest, you're sandbagging 5k races. Anyway, have fun.

Looking to get in 6 or so easy miles today. Maybe on the TM or after work in the forest preserve. Have to see how the day pans out.

Morning guys,

Quick fly-by. Trying to get some things done at work so I can dash out and run that 5k on the college campus across the street. Hopefully it's still on, although the weather is crap today (30s and intermittent rain).

Most race websites usually say "rain or shine" on them somewhere but this one doesn't say. I'm assuming it's on though.

The trail I am sure will be a mess.

I guess Plan B will be do about 5 with the middle 2 at tempo pace.

Later with a report, hopefully.

RUN DAY! Woke feeling like crap. Raging headache so took some Aleve and that upset my stomach. Day is packed, so only time for a run was first thing this morning. Just not feeling it this morning. No way is the HM in two weeks gonna happen. Very discouraged. Then it dawned on me--the legs felt GREAT! It was just the bright light (uh, overcast) and the fact that my brain didn't wish to be shaken, plus the waves of nausea causing the problem. So, onward! Bring on the long run Saturday! 5ish for today.

Oh, and would someone please check the calendar? This IS the end of March, right? So what is up with THIS?!

Good morning everyone. I got out for 4 miles. All I can say is that the miles are in the books. Heading to Wyoming today with my brother and sister for my grandmas funeral. It is going to be a short trip as I will be back Sunday evening. It is a long 7 hour drive to my parents house and then on friday another hour or so where my grandma lived.

Nice job on all the running and such this morning.

Hawk- Good luck with the lunchtime race.

RA- I know right? Thats why I have been doing runs more like this. Before, I wouldn't do anything more than 1ks @ 5K, but at races it always just seemed too hard to hold on to that pace and I always felt it was due to all the slow downs (recoveries) during my intervals.... So i was thinking that this time around I would do longer intervals of 5K pace to get my body used to holding that pace for a longer duration. I may be doing wrong, I guess I will find out in a few weeks at my next race...?

Did my workout as said. easy warmup, stretch, then 1.5 miles @ goal 5K pace, 1 mile easy, 1.5 mi @ goal 5K pace, then 1 mile cool down. 6 miles total. Did it on the TM today.

Sounds like your recoveries are too long when doing intervals.

Well, so much for that idea. I got caught up in an impromptu meeting at work and it just ended now, unfortunately the race was at noon.

That now makes me 0 for 2 on 5k race attempts in 2011.

Hi everyone. I've been slacking lately and just doing the bare minimum. I hope to get a decent run in after work this afternoon (decent = more than 3 miles).

Hey folks, got in 6 fairly easy on the TM at my sister's health club this afternoon. Hopefully, I will get back outside tomorrow but we will see what the weather and second-last day of vacation brings.

Have a good one, all!

Managed to plod out 6 miles on the TM at work. Baseball was on. I'm not sure what's worse. Running on a TM in the basement or watching early season baseball?. Perhaps doing both.

zrun - well you'll be coming back to crappy weather. Wintery mix tomorrow.

Jebba - Well, there's barefoot and minimalist running but now you can start the bare minimum training revolution? I'm sure there's a forum for that on runnersworld.com.

Hawk - bummer. Hey, at least you'll have fresh legs.
