Good morning. No run for me today as I'm fighting the good fight ..... for the Library's budget. The Village is trying to slash it and is doing all sorts of underhanded things, like calling me at 9:50pm last night to schedule a worksession with the Library Board and the Village Board for TONIGHT. This doesn't give my Board enough time to arrange to be there, especially since most of them have preschoolers and have to deal with child care. How sneaky! How underhanded! How unethical! My staff is underpaid compared to staff in other area libraries, and especially compared to other Village employees. I'm going to gird my loins and fight hard.

Sorry to vent, but this is really cutting into my workout/running time. And volunteer time. And time with my DH. Please send good vibes tonight to give me lots of strength. Hopefully once this is settled, things will lighten up for me a bit at work and I can get back to my running goals. I'm trying to increase my distance, which has been extremely difficult for me but I'm plugging away at it and am making some tiny advances.

Thanks,
Susan

The horizon was a muddy brown at the bottom. If you weren't from here and didn't know better you'd think there was land out there.

Susan, sometimes you can't fight city hall. Especially when they are crooked. Don't let it raise your blood pressure.

4/4 run/walk done, good breathing... but with painful arm (referred pain from shoulder). I tried to keep the shoulder/arm still while running, but hey it hurt walking too, so hopefully running doesn't really affect it. i guess time will tell. The doc did tell me not to do things that bothered it, like weights, but running was ok. Problem is everything bothers it... oy! maybe i should just stay home from work

I actually ran yesterday, but forgot to post - 8 miles of HILLS. Took a different route then normal and found some hills I wasn't expecting. Stepped up the pace a bit as well, good workout for me. Today will be rest, tomorrow will be rest - as I head up to Laughlin, NV for a 1/2 marathon on Saturday. I'll try and stay "good", afterall, it's only Laughlin, not Las Vegas. I can't be trusted in Vegas!

Good luck, Susan. Tell them if they don't behave we'll send Choovie, The Librarian Who Packs Heat, after them.

Nice tempo, Robin.

Beeregeur and perch, I know you guys just did EZPZ runs today, but you again make the point that the hard days should be hard and the easy days should be really easy. The newer runners around here can watch and learn from you.

skies overcast and calm air holding the memory of rain
snow piles gradually disappearing and leaving behind their winter residue of grit
Canada geese starting to spit and hiss, so they must be preparing to nest
11 miles, 7:34 pace, HR stayed low and I felt smooth and floaty.

Susan, maybe you can't fight city hall, but you can sure try. Good luck. Don't let them "sleeze" into a win.

Great observation CassadAAmius, we newbies often forget the importance of the hard/easy pattern. Great run there with your 11 miles. Is this your longest post injury?.

Sheri Rainier, good luck in your HM this saturday...may you feel smooth and floaty (sorry Dave, I love that phrase and I had to use it )

gin79, it seems like you are ready for Boston too.

Rest day for the butterfly lady today, but I did run 2 miles from the bus depot to my house as a way to flash out the tears I had in the heart (we, Guarani Indians believe that our tears comes from the heart) after I said good-bye to our oldest son. Our son is on his way to Seattle where he will catch his flight to Vienna. He will be studying at the university there for the spring quarter. I am happy for this huge opportunity he has to do this, but right now I am missing my son, my friend, my inspiration.

Hugs to Dove in your sorrow - she's gone from your sight but lives forever in your heart. Consider this:

Parable of Immortality
by Henry Van **** - 1852 - 1933

I am standing by the seashore.
A ship at my side spreads her white sails to the morning breeze
and starts for the blue ocean.
She is an object of beauty and strength,
and I stand and watch
until at last she hangs like a peck of white cloud
just where the sun and sky come down to mingle with each other.

Then someone at my side says, 'There she goes!
Gone where? Gone from my sight - that is all.

She is just as large in mast and hull and spar
as she was when she left my side
and just as able to bear her load of living freight
to the places of destination.
Her diminished size is in me, not in her.

And just at the moment when someone at my side says,
'There she goes! ' ,
there are other eyes watching her coming,
and other voices ready to take up the glad shout :
'Here she comes!'

Intervals later. Peace.

{{{Mariposai}}} The love you send with him will keep him close to your heart!

Robin, great run! Were you really on Jeopardy?? That's a great shot!

dAAve... smooth and floaty... love it. May we all be so fortunate!

Sherie, have a great HM this weekend. What marathon are you training for? You seem to be handling the increased training very well... but then you had such a solid base from all those HM's you do.

Susan, you go girl! Isn't it amazing how short sighted some people can be? I've always believed the real value of a community is reflected in the quality of its libraries, arts programs and public transportation systems... Don't let the CAVE people get their way (CAVE= Citizens Against Virtually Everything)!

Well, keeping in mind the value of the Hard/EZ cycle, I'm really going to work at the EZ run thing tonight. The faster (for me) miles have been coming so easily I'm finding my schedule too peppered with "tempo" miles all over the place. So, tonight it'll be 5-6 EZ, trying to avoid hills.

Oh, and DS1 got his license! In spite of the concerns that come with that, I'm very proud of him...

ETA, thanks Skip (for everything). {{Dove}}
