Good morning everyone! Just a quickie post to start the end of the month off... 3.25 miles around the block in the pleasant rain. I have plans to run with a friend this afternoon as well, but the weather is supposed to worsen and include thunderstorms, so we'll have to play it by ear about that.

If everyone has been happy with the way the monthly totals have been collected and summarized recently, I'd be happy to give it a go for one more month. But I think after September I'd like to step down and be able to congratulate someone else on a job well done. I'll start the September thread sometime later today.

Safe travels to all heading up to TCM! Go racers! W00t!

Enjoy the day, everyone.

OM, you're a delight!

2 miles on the TM to w/u before core work and lifting.

KSr, that was funny yesterday. Good impression.

How's our Mariposai feeling today? I think she got a marathon in under the radar?

Mike

Nice one OM

Quiet day here as meetings and sleep have kept me from training. I will be training later but definately not a busy day

Have fun

Good morning OM and Mike and those who follow! I'll be running later this afternoon in what is shaping up to be a stunning day. Clear and 85°F. Probably our last summer day in Portland.

The mileage markers for the Portland Marathon were spray painted on the road yesterday, and I passed over a few on the way to work this morning. It made me think of ksrunr and the brief glimpse of him that I got last year as he flew by the aid station I was working. I still wish I had a chance to meet you in person! And I also thought about Spareribs and his upcoming TCM race. Truly an amazing and inspirational story. And then for a brief instant, I thought maybe I should make another attempt at a marathon. But in something kind of like a moment of closure, I realized I'm okay with not ever running 26.2. It used to gnaw at the back of my mind a little bit, but I think I've come to accept it for what it is. It still bothers me a little that so many runners tend to gauge other runners by their marathon times and whether they BQ or not, but there's nothing I can do about that. Except kick their butts in a 10K...

OM is becoming and endorphin junkie. lol

I wonder what secondwind is up to?

Morning Mike

2 mile walk this morning and "jogged" last 200 yards. Will not attempt again until Monday. Came home and iced and took ibu. No pain in foot but some in left knee. Swelling almost gone but toes are still dark blue and green.

May ride Fri and Saturday. Will ride tonight to elevate heart rate.

64 wonderful degrees this morning with no wind or rain. High today up to 88. I think the worst of summer heat and humidity has finally broken. However now we skeeters so big they are chasing the bats away.

Choovie - where are you?

Lab, I appreciate your thoughts on how you feel about the marathon. I think too often, when one is on a running board where 90% of the folks have a goal of running/racing a marathon, it's easy to get caught up in that mentality. Just like many times I might not even mention a shorter/slower run I had because when I'm amongst so many fast runners that run much quicker than me, it's easy to think that my running is pretty inconsequential amongst this company. I, for one, admire your speed and how well you race the distances that you do.

by the way - do you know of any races right in the PDX area on Sat, Dec. 4th? I'll be up in Portland Fri/Sat that weekend. I'm attending a dinner at the Benson Hotel on Friday evening (my boss is receiving a Lifetime Achievement Award so I'm going up to the dinner/banquet that evening) and thought if there was a fun race that Saturday morning, maybe I'd run in it before heading back south.

Glad your ankle seems to be healing rather quickly John!

good luck and safe travels to all our TCM runners! My mom is actually back in MN visiting family right now and I wish it would have worked for me to also be there to see family and run in this race. But I do plan on going back to MN next summer and am thinking of maybe having my trip coincide with Grandma's Marathon.

5.5 miles in my new shooz last night. they felt great! so good that I think I'll take them for another run today.

it's commie-hug-a-tree thursday... left my car parked in the garage all day. 6.5mi 7:45pace run in to work. have a meetup.com easy run in the park planned at 5:30, then run home... so probably 11 more this afternoon. including tomorrow morning i'm aiming at 27mi in 24 hours.

we've got a "walking" challenge program going on at work... except just like vraa, you get points for running, cycling, etc., etc. yes, i got infected and yes i organized a team... disturbing really. but at least now instead of talking about sonoran bacon-wrapped hotdogs all the time, we're talking about walking and using rowing machines.

...I want to be An Adrenaline Junkie too.....

Did someone say 'bacon'? In an ironic twist that I find amusing, the natural, organic grocery store chain in Portland is having a bacon tasting this weekend.

tw, what meds did your doctor put you on? I have to use the combo of Lisinopril/hydrochlorthiazide. I don't like the HCTZ because of its diuretic properties, but the lisinopril won't work on me without it. But at least I did not have to go on beta-blockers like one of my running friends did. His running career is effectively over.

Tammy, the big run that weekend is on Sunday. But across the river in Vancouver, the local running club (Clark County Running Club) is putting on a 5K. I think it costs $2 to enter. Here's the blurb:

Another 4.4 miles for me this afternoon with a running pal; no adrenaline involved, trust me. My friend is mostly a cyclist, and is only running one or two days a week right now, so he wanted to keep the pace nice and slow. Usually that's not a problem for me on the second running outing in a day, but this afternoon I actually felt I could go faster, or longer, or even [gasp!] both. Must've been the 85% humidity out there from the impending storm...

thanks Lab. I'll check that one out. I like the later start time too.

I also might just decide to run in Portland, in which case, I'll probably bug you about a convenient route from the Benson.

4 miles at the gym during the lunch break. Even though it was the TM, it was still a good run.

IM had nice rain this AM. When I was ready to run at 6 it was coming down like a waterfall. So I did the elliptical instead.

Nice that your job is committing to getting fit MC.

TW, good luck with the BP meds. It sucks getting old but the alternative sux even worse.

I signed up to track Ribs, but probably will be out cycling Sunday so won't be updating all y'all here as they come in.

But if I can at a rest stop.....will try from the iPhone.

everything tastes better with bacon.

I ran 3 miles this morning but I'm having problems getting any running done these days. DH and I are signed up for a 10k this weekend and I have a feeling my pace for that may be slower than my HM pace earlier in the month.

Hi choovie, it's good to see you again.

I went through that stage during the first half of this year when every 5K and 10K I ran was slower than my last HM from the previous year. It can be kind of demoralizing unless you put it into perspective, and trust that later when you can train a little better, you'll bounce back. It was the trusting part that I had to accept and not get frustrated by my lack of progress.

Off to run, hopefully in new shoes!

Just a horrible sticky night in New York, as we await the big storm. 5.9 miles around Central Park @ 9:10 pace.

It happens Choovie. Just be patient and don't be afraid to take time off to rest.

Bacon's one of those things I ate a lot when I was younger and now simply can't.

I saw Brooke today at the running store and asked some questions about the tempo run she had planned for me today. One idea was making it into a fartlek run, which I latched onto when I got to the Y and started up the treadmill. One mile easy/very slow, 4 miles fartlek, one mile easy/very slow. 56:11 total so the tempo part was between 8 & 9 pace, closer to 9 with one of the fartleks at 8 for a few minutes. It felt good.

Pefect weather for a nice progression run to break-in my new pair of Mizuno Wave Rider 13's. 84°F and no wind. 5 miles w/ an average pace of 7:35. 8:12, 7:51, 7:28, 7:10, 6:48 splits

just two more months of summer left here in tucson... yippeee!

11mi after work, starting off at 102f, finishing in the dark at 93f. had my credit card with me, so i stopped at trader joe's at mile 8 for a cool drink.

17.5mi for the day, 255 for september.

can't wait for december.

Opie, I keep meaning to ask you.... you're a wear-tester for Brooks and you have a trainer named Brooke.... coincidence??

These are the thoughts that come to me at zero-dark-thirty, after a fitful night's sleep of being woken to horrendously loud rain storms.... wondering how the heck I'm going to run 12+ miles today in all that wet....
