Good morning!

Basic daily run, then off to work.

Yesterday I had planned to run on some trails where I'll be racing on Sunday, but they were closed because there had been a fire in the area that was being mopped up. I hope it's OK for the race.

Faux hill repeats on trainer this morning. Continuing to take it easy on the ankle and going to elliptical for an hour at lunch. So far seems to be getting better.

Morning, TEAM LIT!

All: Thanks for the "condolances" yesterday. I am very bummed to have taken a hit in the standings for miss that one race, especially after putting in the time to get in all the others. Just happened that I missed the wrong race. But you are all right: I had a blast and would certainly do it over again. Running mountains is too fun!

Don: Not sure I got you, or you got me, but I certainly would do it over again -- missing the race. I had to miss the race due to a family reunion. I (obviously) have my priorities in order. :)

Yoshi: You are tired and can barely run 10 min miles due to the heavy load when your kids were away. That happens to me all the time. Just can't run fast sometimes due to having run fast, long, and everything in between for a bunch of days in a row.

Me...

5+ mile trail run early this morning over fairly non-technical trails with a few others.

Hope to double up this evening with another trail run. Might be solo on this one since my TransRockies teammate is having balky ankles (but nothing to derail from TR; he's being overly cautious).

Great day, LIT-mates!

Another bike commute day ... up in the mid-to-high 40s again.

General work suckage around these parts - either buyout or layoffs, but the remaining rats on the ship (myself included) have been in limbo for about a month, and there is zero productivity from anyone as we rampantly speculate or search for new positions.

At any rate - I suspect a nice ride around the beach again will be a temporary cure for what ails ... I've been blessed to have this job for the past 8-9 years, and will take advantage of whatever remaining beach rides are left!

Good ow swim and bike last night. I still had problems with my asthma but I figured out a way to keep my inhaler in my wetsuit with me. The bike was great. We only had 40 minutes so I spent that 40 minutes pushing- went 20 out at tempo and then raced back. Made it in 15 minutes!!!

Tonight is supposed to be a 55:00 run. I'll modify that to an easy 30 minutes on the tm to see how the leg holds up.

Here is my question of the day-

Is it just me, or do the last workouts before a race feel like crap? Why is that?

Tammy - Taper crazies. You're peaking so you're tired. Rest up and you'll feel better on race day.

Afternoon!

Short BRICK today at lunch...tripped over a root trail running last week, not sure what I did, but hip flexor area is pretty sore...so keeping the running on the lighter side until I get it checked out on Monday.

You are not alone. I think it happens to nearly all of us. This is what I consider all mental because you aren't 100% committed to going hard, and your body knows it because your brain is in that hyper-anal mode of always assessing how it feels.

Forget it. All of it. Why? Because race day adrenaline will smooth over all the wrinkles. Once you're bouncing on the starting line, the race is on. That your body and you know. You would be amazed at how my body feels heading into these races, but one thing I know is that it will respond every time. So blow it off, this sluggish crappy feeling, for it is just the minds way of forcing you to go easy.

Sparty: congrats on the hardware! Awesome report.

Added for me...

10 mile solo trail run in a sliver over 1:20. Was very hot and on the humid side. Honest pace throughout. Was definitely getting tired towards the end.

Thanks for your words, Thor.

Good workouts, all!

50min of road riding including 5x 1mile interval. Felt stronger than expected; nice to push hard.

Then in the evening, DH and I dropped off DD at her music lesson, ran to nearby lake and I swam (he ran more), then we ran back. About 4.6miles run and 0.4miles swim. I did ok with wet shoes without socks. A good practice for an upcoming race called "Battle of Waterloo" in which racers do R-B-S-R-S-R-S-R-B-R. Yes, R=Run, S=Swim, and B=Bike. It will be fun! Will have to work on how to swim with running shoes..... and all other tricks.

Holy cow Yoshi...that's quite a race!!!

Late post from yesterday - did the last workout before tomorrow's race (sprint tri)...easy 1-hour ride. Was supposed to get in the pool last night, but by the time everyone was settled for the night it was almost 8:30 and opted to watch the last episode of Falling Skies instead.
