7 mile run with 3 at tempo pace, went like this:

split - avg HR

8:28 - 135
6:36 - 162
8:32 - 151
6:37 - 171
8:40 - 163
6:36 - 178
8:37 - 172

Interesting data from this run. I'm 36, so based on the MHR calculations, my MHR should be 184. During the last tempo mile, my HR got up to 185. I always knew my MHR was higher than normal for my age, I didn't realized how much higher it must be. I know the 220-age is just a general rule, I just found it interesting that I got up to higher than the normal max for my age.

52 minutes on the bike trainer for me with 60 minute elliptical scheduled for lunch today. Also, going to a restorative yoga class tonight for 1.5 hours. Will be nice to get in an extended stretch.

Funny thing about the 220-age HR calculation. If I followed that I'd be at 178. My heart rate is never that low when running. I can easily top 200 and not feel badly at all. I guess I too have a higher than normal rate. If I can average at 185-195 I'm feeling pretty good about it.

That's why it's just a general rule. During the end of a sprint tri a couple years back, I got to 197, so I've known for a while mine was high. I just started wearing my monitor again this week after almost a year of not doing so. I gave my old setup to my wife when I bought the Garmin 310, and just now added the monitor. I'm currently using pacing for my workouts and just using HR as an extra guage of performance.

5- mile solo trail run early this morning over fairly technical trails. Was probably closer to 4.5 miles or even shorter. Feeling beat up from yesterday. Hot out there.

Likely doubling up this afternoon with a 9 to 10 mile trail run with my TransRockies mate.

30 mile ride early this morning. Legs were on board and energy was pretty much there, but positive mental attitude was not. Amused myself at the end of the ride by singing camp songs.

52 mile fat-burning ride - slow (low 16s). Unfamiliar route, so spent time stopping to check directions. Also got lost and added about 10 miles more than intended. At the end of the ride, I'd dropped 5 lbs - despite having three bottles of water.

Definitely a break from the bike tomorrow. Maybe a swim for variety...

Woke up at 4:45 thinking "just go back to sleep and bag the ride" FIB "you're going to be pi$$ed at yourself if you go back to sleep and bag the ride" - so got out of bed. Only able to get in about 40 minutes worth before getting home to wrangle the otters but still glad to get out there. Swim on tap tonight.

Crappy 3 mile run this morning (just one of those runs), some sort of bike workout this evening. Will time trial if the weather is decent, otherwise it's the trainer. I would bitch about all the rain we're getting, but that's hard to do when the rest of the country is suffering such miserable heat and humidity. Hang in there everyone!

No kidding. I think I'd rather have our cooler temps over the heat wave in the rest of the country.

I haven't posted since Tuesday so just a quick recap...3 miles yesterday and then a bike commute today on my new pedals. Stuck with the tried & true eggbeaters on the commute bike.

Miserable heat and humidity, checking in! Just under 5 miles this morning. We started at 6am so it would be a nice and cool 80-degrees! I am getting a bit nervous for my tri this weekend. The last time I checked they were calling for 98-degree temps.

easy 4+ miler from the Y this morning. It was muggy even at 5:30 plus we are losinglight to the point that folks are already talking about vests. I just block my ears. Tough race last night as I was pretty beat up from pump class and the bit of hockey I played. Our team still won the corporate division but I had nothing to do with it since they took the top 5. woke up several times during the night with major calf cramps. 1:30am I'm on my porch drinking gatoraid. I just I should have had the gin and tonic and not the beer.

Mom Otter - Impressive!!

I am on the road on business and happens to be near this weekend's Xterra race course. . It Was A Blast!! Just a fun FUN course (Ron, aren't you regretting not signing up?). Not technical. Only a few super tight corners. It flows and FLOWS. "Cliff Side" trail was a bit scary with a huge drop on my left..... and Creek Side trail was full of rocks (= my hand hurt).. It would hurt very badly if I fell. It was HOT (99F w/ super high humidity) but at least sun wasn't beating down on me. That is the beautfy of the ride in the woods. Took it easy, about 1:20min (including one minor fall, and a few unclippings to go over difficult areas). I thought I rode the entire race course but looking at the past years' result, I must have missed something. I would be happy to complete the bike leg in 1:20 this Sat.

Supposed to run, but after some strange news at work I needed to do something that made sense to me - so I took a dance technique class instead. 60min of turns and leaps. Run is all set for today after work - short and sweet, no excuses.
