I managed to get out of bed an hour earlier today, and that made the suck fest slightly less sucky.

Still slow, but at least I wasn't completely miserable the entire time. I actually had a few miles of feeling as I was making forward progress.

The alarm went of at 4:20AM, I stumbled into the bathroom to get dressed, sat on the edge of the tub and then contempleted not doing my swim this morning. My neck was/is still pretty sore. After about 10 minutes of waffling, I made the decision to give it a go and if it bothered me I would just call it an early swim and get into the office early.

So, 3,000m in the fish bowl this morning (500m warm up, 4 x 100 drills, 7 x 125 @20 sec, 7 x 75 @ 15 sec, 8 x 50 drills, 300m cool down). After the first 200m I really didn't notice my sore neck all that much. I'm glad I sucked it up and got it in the books!

This afternoon at lunch I am heading out for and hour ride. It is supposed to get hot again (90F+), but I think I will be OK.

On a side note, me and the family went to see, "Despicable Me" last night, REALLY good movie, very funny (I thought better than Toy Story 3). Have a great day everyone!

Sorry the running isn't going as you would like Stitch. At least you didn't have any tummy trouble this time!

Once the baby goes down for a nap I'm going to hop on the trainer. May just do Hillacious. I've been feeling uninspired lately and perhaps a little Coach Troy is what I need. Doing an OW swim in Lake Ontario this evening with a new swim buddy...aside from my masters swim class I'm a bit of a workout loner so we'll see how this goes.

Good morning, TEAM LIT!

Beth: Your commitment to a healthy lifestyle is awesome. Good for you for getting back aquainted with the Trainer!

Stitch: Why so "sucky" a run? Heat and humidity or something else? If something else, maybe we can help brainstorm...

hobey: You'll get used to and comfortable with the valve extenders. They are pesky at first but no worries after that. I had similar issues until I figured them out and realized they were nothing more than extending the valve, so to speak.

7+ mile trail run with Joe Trails early this damp, humid morning. Hope I didn't get poison ivy, but right now I'm pretty itchy. Joe decided to take me on a trail that cut over a few towns and made an ascent to a water tower with skyline views of Boston far off in the distance, which is impressive since the city is probably 30 miles away at that point. Unfortunately when we got to the top visibility was all but 100 yards due to heavy fog. Fun run. Good to run technical trails longer than an hour (1:12 total time) so that it steps me toward longer trail races.

Wanted to bike but with the excursion to the water tower, I ran out of time. No biggie though.

Great day, Tri-peeps!

Early morning 45min ride including 3x5' at race effort. I had a solid 1600m swim yesterday including 4x {4x50m hard w/30" rest + 50m kick}. I can feel body is getting enough rest. Too busy with life to even think much about the race or go for taper craziness. 30min run later or push that to tomorrow. Not sure. That is all I have before the race. Feeling I have too easy/little workout.

So far today I've washed the car and dragged my tired ass to work. Not bad.

Tonight is packing night. If there's time I'll sneak in a quick swim workout, but the odds are against it. I'm really looking forward to Saturday afternoon, because that means I'll be done with my race and can start vacation for realz!

Super fun spin with son1 this morning. Nice to have my training partner back!!! Legs are a bit tired from hard workouts earlier this week, so the ride was tougher than it should have been. Around 17mi.

Quick transition at the van and off for a run. Son1 quickly dropped me. But, because he was "with" me I was able to run the route that goes right by the woods. I never, ever run it solo. Lap times of 10:01, 9:59, 9:56 for a total of 3.4m.

Starting to feel like I'll be where I want to be--by the end of the season. Oh well. Lessons learned.

Hi. Can I start posting here? I think I fit in better here than elsewhere in kick...

Nice negative splits on that run, 4boys. Awesome swim workout, miles! I was very excited about my swim intervals this morning until I read your workout...

MBannon, forgive me for asking since everyone else probably knows, but what race? Good luck!

Stitch: I hear you on the sucky run thing. I HATE running in heat/humidity, give me 10 degrees anyday! It has been very hot/humid here for a few weeks and I have been running less than usual. And with only sprints on my calendar & my half not until Nov, I can do that with no worries!

Family run this morning, Matt pushing Eli in the stroller to give me a break and a little faster pace. 35 min through the neighborhood. Thanks Thor and congrats on your newest race and awesome finish. Haven't had a chance to read about it yet. Kitkat, yes getting back onthe trainer has been huge. Thankfully I'm pretty much healed (had 2 stitches) so the seat was fine.

(*sigh*).....

I'm not real sure why things are so sucky. Yes, though, the tummy troubles seem to have abated. I'm eating cleaner, I'm sure that's helping.

I've had craptastic runs for what feels like almost a month now, although there are brighter spots in there here and there (if you know what I mean).

I've yet to hit scheduled long run in a way that feels "honest" .... and almost feel as if I shouldn't even count them at all. My plan for MCM is to run/walk, so I've been doing that in the long runs, but even that doesn't seem to help.

My mid week runs (supposed to be tempo) aren't all that much faster (if at all sometimes) than the long run paces.

"Before" (Jan-Mar-ish)..... I was hitting 11-11:30s min pace for my midweek runs and was feeling really great. I was holding pace up my rolling hills, and I was feeling light and quick and bouncy.

Now (since April)......I'm struggling to hold 12:30s, I feel crappy, I lose serious pace on the hills, and I feel lumbering, heavy and sore, and I'm only running 3 days a week. The schedule is due to work, and will be changing after next week, but I'm getting at least 1 day, sometimes more, between runs and I still feel like crap. During IM training, as hard and tough as that schedule was, it seemed to get easier as it went along. So, the length of a trainer ride, or long ride or run would get longer, but it would feel easier for longer into the event -- make sense? At first, the whole thing was "hard", then, the first part was easier, then easy....and it finished up hard. Not so now. It's ALWAYS hard, always craptastic. Even accounting for the energy suck that the heat/humidity brings, it should be getting better not worse as I go along....shouldn't it?

In the mean time, I managed to get up an hour earlier for today's run and while it was still "slow" overall, at least I didn't feel totally miserable. I defintely didn't feel smooth or graceful, but it was not 100% awful...maybe just 85%. Still mightily humid, but when I finished it was only 77 degrees....definitely an improvement from this weekend, where I think it was 77 at 5, when I started. I'm also headed to Tithers house this weekend to see if possibly a change in venue will give some benefit to the long run nightmare that has been my life the last 5 or 6 weeks. My trainer here who helps me with weights and such suggested "finding a man"..... yeah....fat lot of good that will do. I didn't have one for IMFL stuff, I don't suppose one would come in all that handy now. ;)

So, 'nuff of that. But, that's the story.

I have a run around the river (~4mi) and then a swim (~1200yd) at the gym planned for after work. I am hoping to do some intro to speedwork for each one. I need to get my act together for Timberman as well as get a plan together for Reach The Beach and the Hampton Half Rockfest.

I was super bad last night. Met some friends in from Seattle and Texas downtown Chicago. Had dinner at McCormick and Schmdit, spent way too much, drank way too much. Took the train back home go it in at 1am. Whew... I do that maybe once or twice a year, so I didn't care about skipping masters. In fact one of my friends annoyed the waiter so much, he gave us a tour down to the meat locker to show us the steaks first hand so he could prove the authenticity of the meat... or whatever, I forget.. all I now I was down in a freezing meat locker with about 50K worth of meat around us. Never done that before. Bunch of trouble makers.

I will get in a bike and something later though. My friend from Seattle by the way, big downhill racer, wins most the events he enters. Full helmet, body armour and everything. Nuts. Use to be a cat 1 cyclists. At least he was out.

{{{Stitch}}}. Sorry to hear this. I totally know this feeling. I really would suggest signing up for a fun run and then go out there with someone and well, have fun. You might feel a whole lot more confident after. And don't foget to cut yourself some slack- You've had a tough 6 months and that's ok.

Me- the last of the errands, the cooking and the packing for our trip are what's on tap for me today. I did havea GREAT OW swim last night with the team. The lake gave us lots of chop and the coach had everyone working on sighting. So if we sight at 8 strokes he wanted us to sight at 16. I am a really straight swimmer and I sight every 10 strokes and so I was trying to hit 20. That gave me tons of practice with holding my line and getting bumped, kicked and hit. I came away with this swim with tons of confidence for the weekend... guess who is gonna be on the buoy line?
