Rest day today, and I'm getting a massage. Just on time as my right ITB is feeling tight and my back is tweaky!

I am still in denial about attempting a 50K run on Saturday.

Good runs and workouts to all of you.

Flounder, how does one dress correctly for that?

Flounder - Doesn't frustrate me at all. Just feel like an idiot! Again! this isn't the first time I posted the wrong date.

Good morning all.

I just posted my "Person of the Day" thread in the PostTent. If you want to read about me here you go. http://www.kickrunners.com/forum//sh...ad.php?t=18320

Anyhow, it is 20' out right now, not to mention the wind. I am going running this morning. Not far, just enough to get the blood flowing for my lunch time ride. I am looking for a 5 mile TT on the bike today. I am just looking to set some benchmarks early in the year so i can monitor my improve over the coming months.

Ahhhh! Back from my run. 5.31 miles in 40:34. Felt good. Did a one mile warm-up and then progressively got faster for the next three, 7:35, 7:20, 6:58, and then 1.31 mile cool-down. I really didn't want to run quite that fast but had to, I was getting cold so I figure if I pick up the pace it will help keep me warm. 19' with a wind chill of 9', great morning for a run.

Now I am back in my office and it is just as cold in here. 60' I think yesterday it got up to 64 in here. Yeah, just what I have to look forward to all day.

Mikey - good to see you in here. Hopefully the winds are "light" when it's time for my run. I'd really love it if I didn't have to run on the TM for the 3rd time in a row, but if it's that or frozen snot and what else, I'll hit the TM.

I would have to agree. It is not that hard to stay warm. The key is to not overdress. Today at 9' I had on cotton sweats, (military you have to love it), but I was fine with a SS tech shirt under the sweats. Cheap cotton gloves and a nice warm hat.

SGH - I hate being cold

I would rather run is -20F no wind than +20F and 15 MPH winds.

I wear 2 pair of nylon reversable sweats
spandex shorts
a nice high tech shirt
a fleece
a light wind breaker
head band
very light high tech running ski type mask
wool mittens
socks
shoes - screw shoes today - lots of ice out there and at 4:45am you can not see it very well

I was dressed perfect - only the tops of my hands were a little cold and yet I was not too hot either

Good day, everyone

Flounder, glad you had an enjoyable run. I don't know if I could enjoy running in such cold--the 25F today was bad enough

sistergoldenhair, enjoy the massage--that sounds wonderful

David, nice run. Your thread this morning messed with my mind enough that I decided not to post until I got to work, hoping that someone else would start a thread with today's date

25F degrees here--my coldest run so far this winter I believe. Ran 4.4 miles in 52:15. My right leg still hasn't recovered from the weekend drive. I'll probably have to do some stretching to help it.

Hope everyone has a great day.

Good Morning, All.
I guess some of you are in a bigger ice box than me today -- it was (-1) at 7 a.m. here in New Hampshire. No wind, though, so manageable.
Nevertheless, I kept it short -- three miles. Just trying to get out there every day and build a base.
Good runs, all

Looks like lots of good work out there already today. Yesterday was a little bit of a bust as far as doing what I was supposed to. Wanted to just do 6 pretty easy. Headed off on a route that ran past a lot of businesses because I figured they'd be more likely to clear their sidewalks than residential areas. Way wrong there and since I was going by busy roads, I had to stick to the thick snow on the sidewalks. Only ended up cutting the run 1 mile short, but it wasn't nearly as easy as it was supposed to be, and I ended up shortening my core work afterwards too because I was so wiped.

Hope everyone else can find some clear roads. I'll probably try for 7 tonight to make up for it, but definitely on a different route.

Schedule said 8 miles w/4 at 15k to 1/2 marathon pace. It was 8F and snowy and icy out, so I did the tempo part by effort. Checked the numbers afterwards and I was pretty close to 1/2 marathon pace - I'll take that!

Flounder - I'm with you on rather being too warm than too cold. Once I get cold it's all over. I had on a rather interesting combination this morning, but at 5:00 AM, who cares and I was comfy through my whole run!

Whew. VRAA is all set to go. Teams announce this afternoon. I'm all wound up and ready - are you?

I'll get caught up here before I go away for the weekend. I am meeting with a group of KR'ers, SGH included, for a Fat Ass 50k fun run this weekend in Delaware.

I got away from the VRAA for a moment last night to run 5.5 miles on snow-covered roads. Wore the screwed shoes and they worked like a charm, even on pavement where the snow was thin. Today is a day off for travel tonight. I'll return Sunday night, hopefully with a 50k run under my belt.

good luck with the runs everyon.e it's pretty darn cold here, so i imagine it must be where some of you are. stay warm, but it's sunny so it's at least pretty out . Enjoy your day. Me? i'm off and the bad days continue. Last yr it was the same thing. spent my winter vacation of college on the couch. hopefully this one will only be for a day. But I don't know if I mentioned yesterday, I have an infected in grown hair as well. So I can't really test my hip running right now, because it hurts a lot to walk from the hair. Hopefully doctors later and than maybe i'm gona go to the gym with my dad and try the treadmill, but if not hit up some other machine.

Unbelievable the amount of morning people in here this AM!

Blah, not me.

After my unplanned rest day yesterday, I will definitely be running today--probably
some speedwork. That will either happen at lunch or after work, depending on how my tummy feels. It's giving me some problems right now, so we'll see if it settles by lunchtime. If not, I'm definitely headed downstairs to the TM at 5:00.

BTW, thanks goes out to Dave for encouraging me to post my 2007 totals on that thread. It made me realize how much I had accomplished last year, after actually seeing it on the screen.

Rest day for me. I hate rest days. But I did enjoy sleeping in...

David--you got me!!! I saw January 4 and I about keeled over. I'm scheduled to work today, and I knew it was the 3rd. So I saw you post the 4th and I thought that I had missed work!

I agree with the cold running thing and you just have to dress correctly. I generally wear 3-4 layers on top, plus a wind breaker, tights and windpants if it's windy. Unless it's really cold, I will wear anklet socks. I have two hats--one is a Brooks beanie which I've been wearing this season, the other is a heavy fleece hat that I made and wore last season. I wear either cheapo gloves (I buy 4 pairs every season because I lose 'em) or heavy fleece gloves. When it's really cold, it's not uncommon for me to come home and have frost between my fleece jacket and wind breaker. Yah, that would be frozen sweat...
