(((((Kath and Bob's Mom)))))

Fun: My cousin (aka childcare provider) got the job!! Yay - I am so proud of her. Lots of candidates, 2 rounds of interviews, and she gets to start her career. There aren't many job openings around here in her field (in fact, that was the only one she had found since she graduated in May), so if this didn't pan out, she'd have to start looking out of state. This job seems like a good fit and she gets to stay here.

Not fun: No child care in 2 weeks. And the boys and I are going to be super sad to have her leave. It was a true gift to have a family member as a child care provider. Sigh. I just posted an ad. Fingers crossed.

crap night of sleep until I went to the sofa. I think Craig was running a marathon while he slept, wiggling all over the place moving his feet and legs finally I just said screw it and went to the sofa. Slept like a rock after that but was wide awake at 430 when his alarm went off.

I'm going to need a nap at about 1130 I think.

We have relay for life tomorrow night and I'm helping set up and have a goal of 13.1 miles but we'll see how that pans out. We're supposed to have temps in the billion degrees again and thunder storm and I refuse to walk a half marathon in the hallways of the highschool.

Morning peeps.

On of my conference buddies, Mark, IMed me last night to tell me he lost his home in a fire on Sunday morning. A stranger, up til the wee hours drinking a beer, noticed the smoke and banged on their door. Gratefully, his wife and their infant daughter, who is now just a week old, were asleep on the couch...had it not been for that, he told me he doesn't believe they would have gotten out. He woke his son, got him out, and went back to get his glasses...where he saw flames coming through the walls. They are all safe, but they've lost everything.

They believe the cause of the fire was a neighbor's bag of potting soil ignited in the extreme heat Toronto's been having. Mark and the neighbor's house were both lost to the fire.

I can't even imagine the horror and sadness they must be dealing with. He and I talked a lot this last conference and he's been very kind to me about my mother's illness and death, and I wish I could repay him in some way, beside praying and checking in on him.

Anyway, that's my sad news for the day. Count your blessings...and make sure your smoke detectors are up to date.

I'm beat today. I wish I could just go home and nap. I guess I could, but it would mean taking vacation time or sick time and it's not really worth that.

I had my annual review today. We've been using a qualitative model that is actually informative and helpful, but next year we have to go back to the quantitative model that is stupid and pointless. I've seen the scale and it doesn't even make much sense. Grr. Anyway, I earned high praise and was officially designated as "exceeds expectations". Given the state of the budget, I'll just have the satisfaction as my reward as I do not believe there are any raises being given this year.

There were a few deaths in my extended family this week, all elders. I didn't know the one (she is the mother of a cousin-in-law) but the other 2 were a husband and wife pair who died the same day. Bill was my grandpa's cousin and Gingy was my grandma's best friend, and I believe they met because of my grandparents. They were all life-long friends, and also good friends of my great-aunt. Bill even helped manage some of my great-aunt's affairs (she has Alzheimers). My parents can't go to the funeral, they are headed out of state, so I think I am going to go to the visitation tonight in Dayton. I can't make it to the mass tomorrow.

Moe- how awful for your friend. One of my work colleagues is fairly young, and moving into her own solo apartment for the 1st time. Her apt complex is requiring her to have rental insurance so she was asking about it since she's never had it. While I think the minimum coverage they are requiring of her is excessive ($100K), I told her that it is good to have just in case of something like this.

Thanks for the good luck wishes, everyone. Yeah, she had both knees replaced about a year and a half ago. So by the time she's done today, she'll practically be the bionic woman. Supposedly the hip surgery is easier than the knee surgery, and since she survived that just fine, I'm sure she'll be okay...

Hi everyone - fun today was getting my iced latte for free this morning (no coupons needed even). I'd treat all you heat-bound folks to some iced drinks if I could.

Not fun: we're losing another(!) person from this office - you folks might think this is a bad working environment from this exodus, but it's really more of people finding greener pastures. Now if my greener pasture would just come to fruition, I'd be happy to join 'em too

Not keeping up with the exercises after her hip replacement 10ish years ago is part of my mom's issues now.
