Morning peeps.

On of my conference buddies, Mark, IMed me last night to tell me he lost his home in a fire on Sunday morning. A stranger, up til the wee hours drinking a beer, noticed the smoke and banged on their door. Gratefully, his wife and their infant daughter, who is now just a week old, were asleep on the couch...had it not been for that, he told me he doesn't believe they would have gotten out. He woke his son, got him out, and went back to get his glasses...where he saw flames coming through the walls. They are all safe, but they've lost everything.

They believe the cause of the fire was a neighbor's bag of potting soil ignited in the extreme heat Toronto's been having. Mark and the neighbor's house were both lost to the fire.

I can't even imagine the horror and sadness they must be dealing with. He and I talked a lot this last conference and he's been very kind to me about my mother's illness and death, and I wish I could repay him in some way, beside praying and checking in on him.

Anyway, that's my sad news for the day. Count your blessings...and make sure your smoke detectors are up to date.
