Heading out for some miles. I heard the weather guy say we're going to have "heat and humidity with an attitude" this week. Really? It hasn't had an attitude for the last 3 months?!?

Speaking of heat - my input on the sweat discussion you guys had while I was in Cleveland: I don't really have an issue with sweat in my eyes, but the drops of sweat sliding back and forth from my wrist to elbow on the underside of my arm are driving me CRAZY.

hehe I was waiting for someone else to start the thread and when I gave up and started - so did kath! If a moderator would be so kind as to delete mine, that'd be great.

This is what I posted there.

So the first morning in like, EVER, that I've gotten up super early - 4:30!!!! - and am mentally and physically ready to get outside and run and it's pouring rain. feck. So I got a really good yoga session in and found that my bod reallllllly needed that. So, maybe it's all meant to be this way. I won't get another chance to run today probably until late tonight, meetings all day at work and then after work I'm driving DS to Wisconsin for a stay at Dad's. But I'm doing really well at getting all scheduled runs in this week so I'm really gonna try to get er done.

Hope everyone else has better luck getting their runs in today!!

Good morning, ladies.

Ouch, I'm in a bit of pain this morning after last night's race. It's not really one specific thing, just an overall soreness and fatigue. I definitely think I need a day off today. This is going to be a very low volume week for me. But meh, I could probably use it.

Anyway, the race yesterday was fun. I was nearly a minute slower than I was on Saturday, but that's fine. I almost ate my weight in pizza after the race, which was fun. Although it might also partly explain the way I feel this morning.

Oof. I've been at work less than half an hour, but I feel a need a nap...

BigG - sorry you did not get your run in. Nice job getting the yoga in though!! Where in WI are you going?

I was tired tired tired this morning. Got out and it was super sticky and warm. By 3 miles in it started sprinkling. I love that. Made the end of my run very very nice. 5 slow ones in the books. Have a busy day ahead of me! Hope you all have a great one.

Nice 5k last night boB! Sounds like a fun one.

Bummer on the run BigG, but at least you got something done. Hope you can get your run in tonight.

I got my long run done this morning, 15 miles, since I leave for California tonight and didn't want to try to squeeze it in out there between drinks and eats and sights. I was disappointed that it was raining when I woke up, but it quit after a few miles and I didn't have much of a choice!

Good runs and rests to all today.

I like running when it's sprinkling, but heading out in a downpour notsomuch. And it was a deluge of rain. Buckets. There was a river running down my street. pah.

We meet at the cheese wedge in Tomah, Wisconsin. It's about half way for both of us so it works well.

RFTL - I really really need the notworthy smiley icon back. I keep needing to post it in reply to your amazing morning running feats. Not only 15 miles before work but you headed out in the rain! You are my Hero.

Thanks. I'm not sure where that came from, but it just came to mind and I felt like using it. I guess I've always thought that "zesty" was a funny word. We'll see how long I keep it up...

Good Morning!

I'll get out for something slow and easy at some point this morning. Kind of humid and icky here today and I still need to get the puppies walked, watching the TdF right now...should be an interesting day with the rain and last mountain stage! My non-plan plan is easy today and then to try to destroy my abs, a bit faster tomorrow, easy Sat and then try 10 or so again on Sunday and see if that goes any better then my craptastic 10 yesterday.

Good job on the 5k Bob and the mile race Tim!

Duck, when my ankle (peroneal tendon) flares up on me, I actually find that the KT tape REALLY helps. I didn't think for a second it would, either.

G'morning all.

Planned on 6M this am, but only managed 4.5. No. Energy. At. All. I guess that should have been expected considering that lunch yesterday was a $2.99 value meal from Mickey D's, and supper was a little bit of milk and 1/4 can of pringles. Meh. I'll either head to spinning this evening or get another few miles in after work.

Nice work this morning, RFTL! Have a safe/good trip!

I headed out this morning for some miles, without a real route or total miles in mind. Wanted to do more than 5, but figured I'd just run whereever I felt like it. Took it easy after just running last night, and ended up doing a big 8+ mile loop that took me through 2 parks and along the river. Good run, and my calf held up just fine.

Temps were friendly but the sun was already warm. The high 90's are getting a bit old here

I think the KT tape is really working on me, too. My therapist showed me how to put it around my calf, and I use it on runs that are harder or longer. Calf was feeling cranky this past week -- used the tape during the race on Sunday, calf felt ok. Didn't use it on any of the runs since then, calf wasn't too happy. Used it this morning, calf was much better. I'm a believer.

Round 1 - ran 5 miles. Kept wanting to stop (felt like crap and wasn't into it) but didn't, just kind of plugged along and zoned out and then, "Wow. Only a mile left!"

Round 2 - couple fast miles (walked) with Gus

Round 3 - half a mile with Jack. That's about all he can stand in this heat.

Thanks! This week was a little unusual because I was only accountable to the puppy - kids were at camp and DH is in Cali - so I was able to get to bed super early and not feel guilty about it, so getting up wasn't hard. In my opinion, those of you who do workouts in the evening after a full day at work/life are much more impressive - I'm so wiped out in the evening I could never do it!

Yeah for 8+ miles without the calf being cranky Solar!

Jen - i won't be in Duluth that Saturday, so the 5k wouldn't work for me.

Morning all! I met up with Elyssa and celebrated the cooler weather with 9.3 miles along the bridle path - needed to really enjoy the break in temps and humidity b/c it's coming back tomorrow. Dang.

FUN - heading out tonight to see Thierry Henry's debut with the NY Red Bulls vs. the Tottenham Hotspurs. I've been going thru World Cup withdrawal, this should help a bit.

Nice races boB & Tim!

Cindi – great job! If you have the opportunity, you should def get out for a run in Golden Gate park!

Ok, I actually do have a few running-related items.

Jen - your coach was was the guest speaker for latest edition of the Runners Roundtable podcast. The topic for this episode was running camps. It's here if you were interested in listening.

Is anyone interested in doing either Ragnar New England or New York? Both are in May 2011. For those that don't know what that is - it's a 12 person, 200 mile team relay - like Reach the Beach. The New England course starts in New Haven, CT and finishes in Boston. The New York course starts in Woodstock, NY (in the Catskills) and ends in NYC. I figure that I'd ask now since these things usually requires so much coordination.

Hi all - tempo run last night on a mile-loop route with faster paces on each loop. Two of the areas that had been bothering me (hip flexor/psoas region) feel pretty good today, but there's still a spot on the lower posterior rib area that's just annoying the heck out of me.

Maybe a bike and/or strength workout today - I'll figure it out.

BigG - great job getting in that early workout! I think I need to back into yoga myself - I've been using some of the poses to stretch out my painful areas and they seem to be helping. Also am noticing the increased ROM that I've gotten from the ART work the last few weeks.

RTFL - nice run, and safe travels! FWIW, NorCal is a virtual icebox compared to what you folks elsewhere are going thru (San Francisco & Oakland set records for historic minimum high temp for the day yesterday at 56 & 61 degrees, respectively)

Restful/healing vibes for (((Duck & Coach's ankles, Craney's thigh, and any other 30's achy parts)))

Nice racing boB and Tim. boB, even though the time was not a PR, did you set a PR for pizza consumption?

Maybe - I would need to up my fitness level lots, and I would still be by far the weakest link on anything like this, but I did have a local friend ask about the NE one. (Side note - she has since been diagnosed with breast cancer, had a double mastectomy, and is back running, possibly looking at Steamtown - she kicks ass).

I ran 7 this AM, which is my longest in almost a year. I was up early for no good reason (see fun thread), it was beautiful out (one day respite in the weather, heat and humidity back tomorrow), and I did want to up my distance this weekend. What I forgot about was to eat. All I ate yesterday was cereal and an apple for breakfast, a grilled chicken salad for lunch, and a salad for dinner. Complete lack of protein and carbs after 1 PM. Needless to say, I started getting leg cramps at about 5 miles. Meh.

Hmm. I don't keep stats on that, but I think I ate more at this race last year. It was close though...

Well gee, if it starts in my ol' hometown, I suppose I should consider it. And since I went to college in Boston right after high school in New Haven, I've travelled that course a million times. (Although I assume the race won't be on I84 and the Mass Pike). Yeah, I think I'd be interested in this!

Speaking of May 2011... I might as well bring this up now. I'll be turning 40 that month. I've had this sick fantasy in my head that on my 40th birthday (a Sunday), I'll attempt to run 40 miles. Not in a race, just out on my own.

Is that stupid? I know Pacer has done 50+ miles on his own just for fun, but I'm not quite at that level. Would I kill myself if I attempt something like this?
