It's race day!

I'm pumped up and ready to go,
though our course will be oh so slow.

I'm very excited though and hope it gives me a good mark to build the rest of the season off of. Have a great day folks.

Good running in the heat LOF and you too arro -

Alex, have a great run later and hope you get to wear your Cork T-Shirt some time this season ....

For me, I ran a 6.6 mile run along the Liffey walls then out along the coast at Sandymount Strand, an extension of my 5 mile route. Steady run at around 8 minute pace, most enjoyable.

What distance race Alex?

I did 8 miles in the hottest heat we've had here in a while. It was awful. But, it's done.

Nice running folks.

24 hours can make a huge difference, as I really struggled tonight. Plan tonight was 14 miles on the trail. I did not feel right with tired quads and a bit of stiffness in the lower back, so I bagged the run early.

I nearly fell a few times and since I was not doing well I just decided to bag the run early. Now is not the time to get hurt.
Run Segments
Well it was agonizingly humid out but we did get a nice little bonus when we got a sprinkle...at least something to cool us off. Gun went off and I stayed nice and relaxed, probably 15th-20th place at the quarter and by the half mile I was already in about 8th. I hung on a bit off the lead pack, then passed the guy in front of me and didn't want to be in the "dead zone" and I easily made up the 10m they had on me over the course of a quarter mile or so...first mile 5:25 but I'm feeling good. Now I'm in 4th for the next mile and we go through at 11:08..slowed down a bit but so did everyone else and I'm nowhere near empty. Then I realize the leader is gapping us even more so I break off the pack of 2 others I've been running with and chase after him. This kid has run like mid-16s so this is a workout for him...he's not anywhere near racing so he handily stays ahead of me by about 10m for the rest of the race. I'm happy though...with how mushy our course was and how humid to come with a placing PR of 2nd and a time PR of 17:51 on a possibly long course for the first meet of the year, I am very pleased and everybody be watching that PR hopefully drop as the season continues.

Thanks for the well wishes everyone...I had you in my head a lot of it...especially you Mike.

Alex -

You have about 9 more weeks to peak - 17:51 is a very good time, but you'll run faster. More important is you need to gain some race experiece / confidence at your new studliness level.

8 miles tonight in 80 degrees, lower humidity, and a breeze, so it was very comfortable. Great run! Even though I had to use a construction port-o-jon.

I ran with two other women who I think will become running buddies, and another woman who was visiting the area caught up to us and finished with us. Good female running mojo tonight!
