Easy 4 miler this morning. Set the garmin to show distance and HR so I'd have no idea what my pace was. Kept HR at 133 avg for the run. Came out to 33:50.

my "workout" for the day was to meet with the guy who is going to be developing a training plan for me. I know it's not rocket science, but I'm struggling with the too-much-or-too-little pattern I've gotten myself into, and he's my PT so he exactly understands my hip problem and my current bike anxiety.

he's going to do a 3 month plan starting 8/22 (which is after the current 14 - 15 hour work days will end) that I've titled the "get off my *ss" plan... then we have an overarching 2 year plan. it's stupid, but with an assigned list of workouts and a periodic check in, I'm more likely to get back into the habit.

Good morning, TEAM LIT!

Yesterday after work I met up for dinner and drinks with two guys who were part of a team who in 2003 ran as part of a relay across the country. The idea of Dave McGillivray and was self-supported and sponsored by Trek to raise funds. Was very inspiring for someone like me who would love to run cross country one day -- sooner rather than later! They wanted to here about my TransRockies race coming up while I wanted to wind them up and sit back and listen to their stories. I came out of the meeting with the idea that, well, I can do it. From here I have to figure out when, how to take that much time off, who will join me, what kind of support group, find worth charity that I can get behind, route logistics, etc. Very cool. As an interim step, I might use this as a way to attempt another one of my goals, and that is to run across the state of Massachusetts from Albany(ish) to Boston with the final 26.2 miles on the Boston Marathon route. Maybe November, since I have at least one October marathon planned already. That should leave me in shape enough to attempt it. The cross country trip will be inspired -- or shot down -- based on that experience, I imagine.

The usual Thursday morning crew run from the health club. I swore up and down that since I'm still in unstructured training that today was going to be easy. Well ... Rick had a 5 mile tempo run for his marathon training and he's trying to qualify for Boston and no one else in the group was going to be able to pace him through it so...

The tempo portion was supposed to be 6:50 min/mi pace. I was running naked (no electronics) and it ended up at 6:12 min/mi pace. 7.77 mi total.

Thor - dream on!!
Purple hays - really? You?! How many people here recognize your name...? Need a grand reentry/introduction!

45 min ride including several 1.5min surges. Legs felt still heavy/tired.
Then later 3 easy miles, though it felt a bit labour.
With all races being B races this year, no real taper, no anxiety, no expectations, kind of blah but good kind, I guess.

I don't think I'm going to xterra nationals this year.... But haven't totally given it up either... Decision, decision...

Thursday night time trial, not exactly in keeping with "rest week" but we're running out of TT's for the summer. Tried the "praying mantis" arm position, since Slowtwitch seems to feel it's so aerodynamic. That may be true (I have no idea), but what it *ain't* is comfortable. I had a really hard time keeping my arms relaxed and in position. The final 3 miles (10 total) were all at barf-point, which is a loooooong time to feel like you're about to barf. Ended up slightly off pace from last week and nowhere near last year's PR of 24.7 mph. Bummer. Next week it's back to my regular arm position for sure.

Umm...maybe? I've started running and riding again. My wife made me promise not to get "all crazy about it again", so if I do any races, they probably won't match up to previous performances.

Thanks for the welcome back everyone! Good to see so many familiar faces.

Added after work for me...

9.5 mile trail run with TransRockies teammate in 1:24. It was our last Thursday "River Trail" run of our training for TransRockies. A very exciting run with the energy of what is to come. We even had a friend join us. On top of that, we also kick started our audio blog podcast that we'll do each day at TransRockies. Check my blog shortly for details... http://ironboy.wordpress.com.

This evening's run was the second of a double for me today, with a total mileage of roughly 14 miles on the day. Those are now all done. My next run of longer than, say, 7 miles will be in the Colorado Rocky Mountains!!!
