Cheryl - your friend is smart, listen to her

Hobey - Go Blue! I was sad to see the formation of the Big Ten hockey league, wondering what will happen to the CCHA.

Adam - Glad to hear you're doing better. Still plenty of time before the race.

Woke up this morning feeling like my old bratty self. I hate tummy ickies.

This afternoon I'll do the short easy run from yesterday and then my high speed/cadence intervals on the trainer.

Adam - good to hear you are getting better. You still got 11 days!

4-mile recovery run. HR has been wickedly low. mid 8min/m pace while trying to hold back is certainly a good sign of legs coming back. No issues with knee, but something in psoas. Am I over-senstive or what? May swim later if I feel like it.

Mike - I suspect the CCHA and WCHA will merge in some fashion. Should be interesting in any case.

Cobbled together last night's track workout on the road. Did 3X1200 at 5K pace and then 1X960-ish. It was supposed to be 1200 but I got a huge side stitch. Ran 7.5 miles in total. Got hailed on...again...not funny anymore.

Good afternoon!

AdCo: Running is over-rated when training for a marathon. Skip it all together. You'll be fine. :)

This is crazy! Who did you piss off? We had everything last night- wind, torrential rain, thunder, lightening, snow, hail, freezing rain, more snow. Maybe our weather will settle down when you make amends for whatever it was you did!!!!

8 mile run this morning with 7 at Tempo pace. Was supposed to do all 8 at tempo, but I programmed the Garmin wrong and didn't realize it until after I was done and went in to check off this workout in my log. Oh well, I was only slightly over 1 sec/mile slower over the entire run than the plan called for. Came out to 58:42 total time.

supposed to be 1:10 in the pain cave EXCEPT....

1. CC cannot do math, I know this, it was really a 1:25 workout

2. The construction guys redoing our bathroom have made a MESS of the pain cave. It took 20min just to clear a path TO my bike and to FIND my Roku and volume control and so on. PIA!!! NOT HAPPY! the entire pain cave is blanketed with a layer of dust. It sucks. Not happy.

Anyway... 20min w/up then 5x1 @ high cadence then 2x15 @ z3 - or my best attempt at z3. Couldn't really get there even though I was pushing 220-240watts @ spedometer said 22mph. Sometimes this happens to me on the trainer. I tried to get up high as I could, RPE said I was Z4/5 but HR said Z2. Whatever, I got it done. Just couldn't do the 3rd 15min interval, had to get kiddos to school. Frackin construction guys screwed me out of that last one.

thor - sorry about the calf, but you know your body and I'm sure you'll listen to it.

What a night!

Rabbit and I decided to run Thursday night instead of getting up and running Friday morning.

I am on my way to NOLA for a conference, and wasn't going to be able to get the run in there, so we moved it up a few days.

While I"m there, I'll do a shorter run this weekend.

ANYWAY....

The first half felt great! We started out after work and felt just a tad dorky with all of our "christmas tree impersonation gear" on.

The next quarter was work, but not bad. We'd lit our lights, and were happy we could be seen. Traffic was a bit of a pain (a drawback to after work as opposed to before work when most people are still asleep) but nothing that was too terrible.

The next little bit required concentration...Our goal was to keep me "honest" during the run. Keep the HR above 160 so as not to devolve into "plodding." This worked great on the flats and downs and even the hills were manageable. But, there was still a decent fluctuation in pace. Of course this is to be expected, but it really hit home at the end.

and the last two miles were PURE STUBBORN. OMG. Rabbit resorted to the "stubborn or stupid?" question at one point. I gulped some gatorade *just* the wrong way and had to stop and convince my gut not to hurl. That was when the stubborn really kicked in. As the run went on, during the walk breaks my legs would...... flood. I don't know if that really explains it. But, you know when you do isometric exercises, and you stop....and your limbs seem to float up on their own? That's what my legs did, only they would both try to do it at the same time.....which would have been very bad. Everything hurt at the end.

1 Shower

1 ice bath (with requisite ice maker explosion in the kitchen)

and 90 minutes of manipulated stretching later and I went to bed.

I am walking pretty well this morning, but am definitely tired.

I lost 3 pounds on the run (yeah, I know it's fake, but still).

and another one over night.

My gut didn't feel like food last night, so up till now, I haven't had anything to eat since about 3:00 yesterday afternoon.

This might prove to be a not so great idea. We'll see.

So, breakfast today is left over lasagne from last week!
